Would help if the range was great, very limited items compared to coles online

    • +2

It is limited and I feel the search algorithm is not the best.

  • Not good, 10 peas says it all

They had to refund a few of my items when the time came for delivery as they had run out by then. Made me a bit less eager to order coles via ebay again.

    • Was the refund process easy? I was about to purchase and thought about this too

      • If its anything like coles online, you authorize a payment, but they dont take it until theyve packed it.

So its not really a refund, just less initial charge.

      • +2

Coles ebay, pay in full on ordering.
Refund was pretty easy. There’s a link in one of the confirmation emails(assume in my ebay aswell) select items not Recieved +qtd

Paid with discounted ebay giftcards+code, refund issued via PayPal for full amount after a day or 2.

      • Yeah it just automatically happened via ebay and PayPal.

        My experience so far…

Placed my first order with Coles on eBay - paid in full with PayPal (Wed night).

The confirmation on the eBay page said that items could be delivered in multiple packages for your order.

Next day got delivery information email with my order number and the expected delivery window. That email contains a link to change delivery window if it's not suitable (mine was scheduled for 4am-10am on Sunday). Clicking on that link gave me 'Bad Gateway' error (numerous browsers).
Tried numerous channels to change that delivery window (1800 number, eBay messaging, SMS service) - was getting disconnected after 30 mins on hold and haven't got replies to eBay message nor SMS … No luck. Gave up.

On Saturday got another email from Coles advising me that some items were unavailable (3 types [6 items] out of 35, not ideal, but not that bad). The email stated "Where items are unavailable you have not been charged. Where we have substituted an item, we’ve charged you at the lowest price.". Well, I've already been charged for those items and no substitutions have been made …

When delivery arrived on Sunday morning, some items were missing as expected, but the enclosed invoice says 'Change due' and states the amount. That amount hasn't been refunded yet and there is no info on how to obtain it. Will the missing items get delivered separately? Who knows.

Today I messaged Coles on eBay - waiting for the reply on missing items: delivered separately at a later day or refund will be issued?
If latter, how the refund is handled - automatically or it has to be requested, and if so - how.
Will add more info when I find out.

So far, seems like too much pain in the backside (links not working, unclear refund process, conflicting info [charged/not charged], later delivery/refund).

        Cheers

Technically you don't have to do anything.
Yes you pay full amount upfront (after 10% discount has been applied).
After the delivery, coles will automatically refund you the items it was not able to deliver.
I paid with gift cards, and the refund is instantaneous (or was at least for me).

I agree the terminology they use is incorrect - they say "you have not been charged" whereas it should read "you will be refunded for any missing items after delivery".

For me the missing items were correctly reflected on the delivery slip (so I did not have to claim additional missing items).

Refund was for the amount before discount applied (so if it was $100, with $10 discount you pay $90; if Coles refunds everything, you get $100 back).
Sometimes the missing item is a pain, but you do get more back than you paid, if you ordered with a discount.

          • @johnmelb: Thank you, johnmelb! I would assume the refund will happen automatically, will give it a few days I guess (still waiting for their reply anyway). Cheers.

            • @or4nge: It should be refunded automatically to the original payment method.
If it's refund to gift card, you should see it straight away after delivery (I had refunds for the 2 times I ordered from Coles, but only have experience with the gift cards).
If it was paid via debit/credit card, I guess it will take a day or 2 (just like with any other store refund).

Note: I see you had issues with their platform, I did not notice that and I changed the delivery timeframe for my 2 orders (and Coles respected that timeframe). It seems you were a bit unlucky with the 'Bad Gateway' error.

Besides Coles needing to improve their communication, they should also improve the items that are available online.

I can't comment on how good/bad their support is, as I did not have to use it yet.

        • I have done more than 10 orders and was always able to change the delivery times. My last one was on 31 July and I was advised delivery from 4 am. When I clicked the link to change it I also got 'Bad Gateway' error. I contacted them through eBay and they said delivery times could not be changed. I said I changed them many times previously. They implied that in the future they would not be able to be changed and the email with the link was sent in error. They said since the delivery is contactless 4 am is not a problem. I told them any delivery could be seen from the street and was not safe and that I had ice cream and frozen fruit and so 4 am was not ok. They changed it to 1 pm. Previously was able to get 10% off on $49 order, use 18% off GC and get free delivery. Yes choice is limited and items often out of stock. Since usually cannot get milk, veg or meat I just use it to top up regular Woolworths orders.

          • @Yola: How did you get 18% off GC, may I ask please?

            • +1

@Findmebargain: Of course you can ask. You are so polite. It was from eBay UK in September 2019. I got $2000 eBay and Dan Murphy's. There were conditions and limits. You had to open UK eBay accounts and some people had a lot oft rouble doing that but I was lucky. Seems it was some sort of loophole. Just finished them all last week.

          Update, as promised.

Refunds have been initiated by Coles itself by the looks of it (eBay 'Item not received' requests have been raised by Coles two days after the delivery took place). The requests said they were raised by me, but I didn't do anything other than contacting Coles via eBay messaging (didn't open cases myself). Took another two days to appear on my credit card as refunds (order was paid by PayPal with a credit card as a source).

To Coles credit, got a reply (3 days after) to my eBay message (though after the refunds came through):
"If a product is unavailable when the Coles team is picking your order, you will be notified and receive a refund. This should happen automatically within 2 days (minimum 5). I can see yours were processed 04/08.
If you are ever missing an item that isn't listed as out of stock on your invoice, then contact us here or raise an INR (item not received request) and I'll look in to it for you and ensure you are refunded."

To be honest, I'm still not sure if the INR requests got raised by Coles after they received my message or Coles automatically refunded (raising INRs first). I guess I'll find out next time. :-), though the experience is quite frustrating.

Surely their communication should be improved, along with clear instructions on refunds. Never received an explanation on inability to access their delivery timeframe change feature (I've noticed some fellow OzBs have experienced the same problem).

          • +1

@or4nge: My last order was on 6 August and the delivery timeframe change was working again.

          • @or4nge: The invoice you receive with your order provides a number to call to report missing items on the second page. I have made many of these orders and always received the invoice. I have had frustrations as well with them on other issues generally due to lack of communication as you say but cannot agree with you on this point.

            • @Yola: I was getting a printed invoice as well, but calling to ask for a refund for an item which is out of stock is ridiculous - a refund should be issued automatically.

Much better experience (faultless) this time - I was able to change my delivery window (link worked!), everything was delivered on time as promised and only one item was out of stock and the refund was issued for it automatically.

off-topic: eBay 21st birthday promo, selected PLUS sellers 21% off Promotion period: 1st September – 12th September 2020

    • Where was this advertised.?

      • Not advertised yet, sellers have just been invited to participate

        • Cheers :)

  • So I've never used a delivery service for routine groceries.
Is there any significant markup that equalises it with in store shopping?

    • I did not notice markup.
Items online are limited. I've never ordered meat or anything, because it's not always clear what the price/kg is. So you might miss out on discount for larger volume.

I'm just complementing my shopping with these items - as I don't find all the things I need. (And I still have the ebay plus benefits for now).

  • Im with woolworth car insurance and always get 10% shopping every month

    • Which you can combine with discounted egift cards.
And you can choose when to get your 10% discount.

  • Coles cancelled my 10% off ebay order for no good reason, my reorder went through ok from coles store, so I can only blame ebay being rubbish again

  • +1

    What about freezer items?

  • It is a terrible service. Range is crap. Prices often differ from the advertised pricing. Delivery is somewhat random but reliably never within the notified window. Items are often not supplied and refunded, plus you're only notified at delivery, so stuff you if you actually needed something. Borderline legal when they advertise 50% off items and then don't supply those items but do the full price ones.
On the plus side, it's 10% off, possibly more with gift cards, and free postage. You don't even have to pay 15c per bag.
Last week they left me 2 extra bags of someone else's shopping. Tried telling them but apparently they "are currently experiencing a high volume of calls and emails and are unable to get back to you within our normal time-frame".
    Just about worth it…

  • I have ordered 4Cobram Estate AU Extra Virgin Olive 3L for $104.40 using PEAS10 and had been expecting a free delivery as the order is > $80 . Just now got an email from Coles ebay as they are delivering only 2 for $ 58 + delivery $10 ( costing $ 34 / each) as they are out of stock. Also removed PEAS10 code. Never again ..

    • +1

I can still see the PEAS10 code. My understanding is that free delivery is for purchases over $49. The PEAS10 code only applies for purchases over $80. So you should get free delivery
and still keep the discount as not your fault they are out of stock. You should contact them. Good luck.

    • Wish I saw this before I ordered!! Did the same thing as you with the Cobram. Hope they don't do the same as what happened to you, I paid through PayPal so I wonder if I have any protection from the gauging.
