Stupid question, but does this thing make toasties?

    • This comment is void because I'm an idiot

I'd call that a Jaffle maker. You make jaffles. But I reckon that's tied to my dialect of Australian English… Toasties aren't pressed together like that.

      • thanks, i had never heard of a toastie until more recently.

      It makes Brevilles

      • +1

This! We always called them Brevilles growing up, and my wife has insisted and converted me to "Toasties"!

        • Breville were the ones who created the first toastie/jaffle maker, hence Breville instead of jaffle/toastie

          • @kerfuffle: Isn't that you needs 🍞 to make Breville ?

            • @frewer: Yes, you need bread and filling in order to make a Breville/toastie/jaffle

              • @kerfuffle: Thank you for a gentle answer to my smarty

Uhhh you want us to make a toastie…in the microwave…should call it a Nukie.

I didn't pay much attention in science but from my knowledge i know that microwave and metal do not go well together

    • Not really true actually. It's mainly pointy metal things. For example, my old microwave actually had a recipe in it which featured wrapping an egg in aluminium foil. Those microwave packets of popcorn also have a metalised surface which is what transfer the heat to the fat and popcorn.

I also just leave metal spoons in bowls half the time because I'm lazy.

I didn't know this thing exists
Seem to have very good review online

    • Reviews are all from their own website, so one would expect them to be rather good. 😁

      • Now that you mentioned it. LOL
I will spend the money on a regular sandwich press then

Amazon and YouTube have a couple of reviews.

My mind is blown by this.

        • The Youtube stuff is pretty amazing, but I would say if you have an airfryer, you can already get similiar results, with the right bits/technique.

  • Looks pretty cool. I wonder how good it tastes

  • I’d recommend, pleased with mine but I don’t know how long the latches will last

  • can you freight me a toastie 🥺🥺

  • Does it uses the same cancer causing polymer that mentioned in this

    • +1

That's a different type of forever chemical. You don't use the same thing over and over, you just add something else to the chemical chain, pay off some researchers to 'prove' it's safe…. Make millions, get sued, claim bankruptcy, rinse and repeat.

      • Don't forget post it on ozbargain or the likes sites.

Another question, is a toastie like what the Americans call a grilled cheese sandwich?

    • +2

Late to the party but yeah, pretty much. Although we used to cook them in a frying pan instead of a sandwich press which may be how the whole "grilled" thing came about.
