  • No Bargain, $65 more expensive than a few months ago. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/520185
Nevermind, mobile display vs TFT display is a difference for some.

  • Do all of the instruments need to be in the wifi zone for it to work properly?

    • The sensors transmit to the screen on 433mhz.

      • That's Radio Frequency (RF)

        • Technically, anything transmitting from about 20kHz to about 300GHz is "radio frequency".

$370 for a weather station, does it come with Jane bunn for that price

    Excellent deal!

    Fullfilment by Amazon as well.

This particular unit is also compatible with all the Ecowitt sensors (air quality meters, soil moisture level etc), and connects easily to Weather Underground.

Good discussion on it here https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=38630.0.

$370 delivered by Amazon is about as good as it gets. If you've been looking at weather stations, you'll know that other pro units (like from Davies) are way more than this.

As far as I know its identical to Ambient Weather's WS-5000 (I even think the sensors work with each other, but do your own research).

If you're a weather geek (or buying for one) this is Rolls Royce territory in terms of weather monitors.

I got the HP2553 which I paid for $435.99 from Amazon earlier this month. Ecowitt has a really good customer support based on my personal experiences.

The Ultrasonic anemometer from the HP2553 works really well, way better than the HP2551 (I paid for $279.99 from Amazon) that I got at home.

Since there is no moving parts, it can pick up stronger wind gust, which makes it 10-20% higher on data and it refreshes every 1-4s (depending on how strong the wind) compared to the budget all in one model that comes with HP2551.

I guess if you don’t mind paying for a bit extra for better and more accurate sensor, hoping to pick up the weather data from the upcoming storms (with WH57 Lighting Sensor, which also picks up the lighting counts and distances "km" away from your sensor), or jump ship from either AcuRite (it was really really expensive back then, like $550 w/ shipping) or the more expensive Davis Vantage Vue but with similar refresh rates, then go for the HP2553.

Otherwise the budget model HP2551 works just fine for everyone.

      Good review mate, nicely done.

    • Nice summary. But why do I need to know the details about my local wind gusts?

      • It depends, not everyone needs a weather station at home and not everyone needs to know the wind gusts. When people got their weather stations installed, the data became widely accessible to general public. It’s nice to have, but not necessary.

The weather and climate can be quite different compared to the city and in the city outskirts (like Brisbane with 7C and Ipswich with -2C)

Some people may say the data recorded from the bom stations are never gonna be accurate in their perspectives because they live >20km (or more) away from the nearest, offical bom weather station/s.

This is when these weather stations come in to place.

  • Isnt this one just as good for a few hundred less ?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/ECOWITT-Weather-Station-Powered-Fo…

    • I would say it’s good for people who wants a compact,”all in one” device. Long story short, it just works as a weather station that comes with a monitor.

For the monitor, I bought it along with the soil moisture sensors for my mum coz she loves gardening as well. It tells her whether the plants and pots needs more water or not at all.
