  • is there a deadline for activation?

    • The one I bought last time this was on sale had an expiry date of late 2013.

What? Expires in only 30-days?!? NOT a deal!!!

Why can't I buy 4 GB to use when it suits my needs?

With data as cheap as we KNOW it is these days,
it's about time somebody offer pre-paid on OUR
    terms, for a change.

Meanwhile. Wollies pre-paid is much BETTER:

So, use a handset as dongle & get 5 GB data
Woolies' SIM for it; $29 lasts $45 days :-)

It also gives $500 talk/SMS "value" to boot

Virgin's data plans aren't the best but this is still a deal for those who don't want to use a handset and just want the dongle which can be easily unlocked (and missed the last $19 deal).

I use mine with Amaysim which has better data rates/plans. I'm sure the Woolies sim will work with it too for those who need 5Gb over 45 days.

      • Do you mean this dongle accepts Optus sim?

        • co-ask, I will consider buying this dongle if it accepts Optus sim

        • I unlocked mine free online (with google's help) and I'm now using it with Optus data days plan.
Sorry I didn't try it on a optus sim before I unlocked it but it was very easy to do.

        • I'm not very tech savy with these dongles, so if it does take Optus sim, does that mean I can use my phones data allowance?

        • -> yikes

If your modem is unlocked, is it able to use the woolies sim card and get the data from it?

      • Yes, it's only locked to the Optus network so Amaysim/ Exetel/etc will work fine.

    • First I heard of this woolies mobile. Sounds good.
Must be new - their website still has a Drupal logo for the tabs and bookmarks :-)

I like the pricing: 1st 5GB is included in the $26, next 5GB is $10,000. Good thing it is not postpaid!!

Note that while this is HSDPA 900/2100, it is only category 6 - 3.6mbp/s.

The pocket wifi 2 from vodafone for $35 comes with 5gb, is 850/900/2100, and is 7.2mbps. And of course you can use that as a wireless hotspot.

Not a very good modem, a very bad network. A pretty terrible bargain.

  • just bought one, to collect the modem, the data part is not good,
woolies has 5 GB data $29 lasts $45 days
    also gives $500 talk/SMS
plus 10% discount if you use the reward card.

  • Yeah Virgin have pretty crappy data plans.
I only got this when it was $19 for a backup internet modem really, the included data was a bonus.
Speed wise it wasn't too bad as it's the Optus network anyway.
But yeah I would suggest going with what raven2000 suggested and trying Vodaphone and using "ozbargain" code to get 50% off.
If you buy the normal usb modem instead of the pocket wifi 2 it comes out to $22.

    • just the Vodaphone ones are locked, and Optus network should be better than Vodaphone network

      • I understand Optus data is in 10MB chunks. Will use up the allowance quickly

  • This modem's okay. 4GB data is alright… Though I just bought the Boost Huawei U8300 for $29 and can use that as a WiFi hotspot or tether it to my laptop.

Also this can be unlocked for free - http://a-zgsm.com/huawei.php
