Sensibo Sky Version 2 - Smart Air Conditioner Wi-Fi Controller $119 Delivered (AU Stock) @ Kogan

230

Was looking yesterday and they weren’t on sale, appears they are now at $119 with free shipping. Cheapest price I think was about $109 delivered last year, so this isn’t quite the cheapest but better than retail by a fair bit.

I bought the Kmart genio IR controller yesterday to try and avoid buying this, but it doesn’t work with my air conditioner (new Fujitsu) even doing the manual setup, plus it’s fairly rudimentary… so I’ll use that for just the Tele etc instead, and use this for my AC.

This thing, though pricier than a IR blaster, has heaps of features and smarts.

Edit- same price at dick Smith too

  • Does this work with Fujitsu ducted aircon with central control panel (no remote control)?

    • No, you’d need a system with an ir remote

    • For a ducted system you would need something like the Nest thermostat or the Ecobee, but I don't believe we can get either of those here. Maybe search up "Nest thermostat alternatives" and see what comes up?

  • Does this integrate with Alexa? Otherwise I fail to see the advantage over a remote which is next to my bedside anyways.

    • It says it works with Amazon Echo on the page

    • Main benefit for me is remote operation, so I can turn my AC on when I leave work and it’ll be warm or cool when I get in.
But read up on it there’s heaps more to it

      • You can use the timer function built into most airconditioners, for that purpose.

        • What if it suddenly hotter/colder than forecasted?

With a lot of smart devices its really a convenience/novelty factor, e.g. no-one really needs voice control imo

        • Nope, my start, finish times vary each day from 6am-11am / 2pm-7pm.
Timer would not work for my case without wasting energy/needing to reprogram everyday. If I was 9-5? Sure.

    • yes it does

I picked up one like this some time ago, and it works a treat - AC, TV, Blu Ray player, and a lot cheaper. Not sure if it'll work with your Fujitsu, but it's been a great investment for me.

For once I can offer my 2c worth on a product I'm familiar with…
Had two of these for about 2 years now and they work perfectly on Daikin splits that we have. We mainly use Google Assistant through a Nest Hub Max to control it, and it gives some on-screen controls and feedback of room temperature. One of the most useful things is asking what temperature the room is at or what humidity. They also recently update their phone apps and they're a lot more usable now in terms of setting timers or controlling fan speed, and also now shows you a graph of last 24hrs temperature and humidity, which previously you were only able to do through their portal on a web browser. The one thing I can't figure out how to do with voice control though is to change fan speed. Another good feature is logging on. Pretty good value at this price, as I've hardly ever seen them below $130

    • Thanks! Yeah I’ve done a lot of research into smart AC controllers, tried a cheap IR blaster, and am pretty happy with my order for this instead.

Thanks very much for your insight!

    • I've been debating getting one of these, or the OEM wifi controller solution for my air cond (inverter, high-wall split), so if you could help me with a couple of questions from your experience, I'd love it!

If I already have an IR blaster that supports it, is there any big advantage in replacing it with one of these?

I know it has an integrated temp/humidity sensor, but is there an advantage in that compared to a $10 zigbee temp/humidity sensor?

Due to the integrated temp/humidity sensor, is this going to be better for the user experience than the (slightly more expensive) official wifi units? Perhaps the remote temp sensor allows a more accurate temperature recording than the one on the fan coil?

      This.

Sums it up perfectly. I have two in my house and am very pleased with it. Particularly useful is climate react (basically takes into consideration humidity and room temp), the ability to control things without being in the room via phone app (eg when baby is asleep) and the graphs showing historical data. The app previously was a bit "crowdfunding-esque" (eg typos, unable to show text properly when in dark mode, etc) but the new revision is much better.

Main downside to this thing is it relies on the Sensibo server to do anything and every now and then it has gone down… this contrasts some other options which are all done locally and hence can offer Siri integration too (but we use Google Home for this).

  • Does it work with a Daikin Multi Split Unit? I checked at their website for compatibility with the model that i have but doesnt show up.

    • my AC is Daikin and yes it does. as long as it has IR remote it works with most AC manufacturer

      • @Wiede Thanks a lot

  • My biggest issue with this device is that it doesn't have a battery, so it has to be plugged in the entire time which limits where you can place it. Plus having a cable just removes any "neatness" factor from the device.

I don't think I'd buy another one until they include a battery

    • The first model was battery powered and you can get it for cheap on eBay if you prefer that one. I used to have those also and the range is shorter and they also needed a base hub. Their 2nd generation one is much better as it works as a standalone unit

      • It's weird because the 2nd gen looks exactly like it is designed to take a plug-in battery of some kind. I've seem some online reviews mention that a battery pack is available, but they may be talking about the 1st gen as I can't find anything concrete about it.

I have no idea how long a power bank plugged in to the Sensibo's usb port would last between charges.

    • I found it doesn't need to be positioned that closely though - the only benefit of putting it near your AC is so if you use the OG remote, the Sensibo will detect it and update accordingly.

  • I have been using this since the first version and now been using the upgraded model for more than 2 years. This is a really great product if you are too lazy to setup the scheduler on your AC. I set mine to turn on for 10 minutes every 2 hours and been using the climate react mode also to keep the room temperature in a tight range at night. It integrates really well with Google Home (not sure about Alexa as I dont have one)

  • White one is the same price. These are really useful and I can't imagine using an aircon without one.

So the main attraction of this gadget is that you can talk to your airconditioner? The other day there was a deal for a powerboard, you could talk to via Alexa or Google. People don't want to talk to each other, they send text/chat messages, but want to talk to their appliances! What a world we live in :(

    • I use the app mostly. Control the aircon from anywhere, anytime. If you are familiar with hue lights, think of controlling your aircon in much the same way.

  • I have the version 1 and it works a treat, integrated with my Google Home perfectly.

  • Unable to select a Victorian postcode. Are they not delivering to Vic at the moment?

    • I'm in Vic and ordered one so I don't know why it hasn't worked for you.

      • Strange. I’m using Port Melbourne (3207) and it’s saying unable to ship to this postcode.

        • Got the same error for Vic postcode

I use these for our split systems here.

Not sure if you need anything more expensive.

    • +1

Yes i've been using the Broadlink RM3 for $20 for a few years for the air cons, tv's, stereo, fans, dvd player running through Alexa and its been perfect.

This or the Mitsubishi heavy industries wifi controller for $194

That goes inside the air condioner itself and doesn't need wall power, but this is $75 cheaper.

    • I went this as my fujitsu Wi-Fi module isn’t available locally. Or 250 from eBay. Which is almost a quarter of the cost of my unit. Insane.

      • Only downside I can think of is the sensibo servers not lasting forever. Says the sensibo has a 6m range!

    • +1

I was really tossing up between the two but ended up with Sensibo for the flexibility in the app, and I wouldn't need to get installation guys to come back and do it. From memory the Mitsubishi one also had some limitations with regards to how it connected to wifi (I think it only supported 2.4Ghz and needed WPS which was a deal breaker for me).

      • Thanks good points

      • Mitsubishi Electric or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries(MHI)?

I have 3 MHI with universal Wifi module added (Universal WiFi module supports recent Daikin,MHI, Panasonic and Fujitsu models).

Absolutely no limitation or WPS requirement. To be honest 2.4Ghz is not a limitation while it carries a 2byte command not a 1080P file. I bought them when i bought the units while i had done extensive research on how to make them smart(nearly every electric device in my home is somehow connected to Google home)

"Sensibo" for Aircon is the last and least efficient option if your unit supports the wifi add-on, most of the installers have no clude or seen this WiFi module before. I ended up installing with my electrician mate , not hard to install. Btw WiFi Module App supports integration with Google home , I don't have alexa or Apple home stuff so can't comment on that.

        • Can you give me a link or brand name or something for this wifi module? Sounds like it'll be a good comparison with the panasonic genuine one.

          • +1

            @Antarius: Here you go mate:

            https://www.intesishome.com/brand-specific-ac/

I bought each for 175$ nearly 18 months ago from good guys , you may find them cheaper online.

They way it works : module will be screwed/glued/left (mine was screwed) next to the Aircon split unit (inside your house) and you connect the cable to Aircon PCB (you have to lift the split face). I can send you a picture as well if you think it'd help.

Make sure your unit is compatible first , i had one old Daikin which was not compatible with this prior to switching to MHIs.

            • @SamyKn: @samykn Thank you so much. Sounds brilliant!

  • how are these different/better than 1st gen?

    • First one needed a hub.

  • Grey one sold out but white one still available.

  • What advantages do these have over those Xiaomi smart wifi reMite control pucks?

    • AC units seem to cause a lot of problems for generic IR blasters. Some work, some don't, it is luck of the draw.
