  • Damn I just bought Mavic Mini 2 days ago šŸ˜

    • How much did you buy it for?

      • 800 for the Mavic Mini fly more, still it's a great drone btw, lightweight, 30 mins fly time, the app is great for n00b, but there is no activetrack (following the subject) like the pro šŸ˜

        • The mini has a sort of active track. In Helix quickshot it locks onto a subject and then spirals out. If the subject moves, it tracks it (usually). This indicates they could potentially include active track in a future firmware update

          • @halfnhalf71: Yeah quickshot actually have object tracking, hopefully it will get in the future.

Why are drones fun? Serious question

    • +2

I find that owning a drone greatly increases the chances of finding lost SD cards with cool aerial photos on them.

    • Not sure why you get negged for asking a question. I tried to balance it out with an upvote!

To answer your question, 2 reasons: firstly, if you enjoyed remote control cars as a kid (or adult) then a drone takes this to the next level, they are fun to fly around and the DJI range of drones are easy to fly, super stable and have built in safety (for example GPS, compass and heaps of sensors means it can fly back to you and land itself if the controller loses connection with the drone or if you're not paying attention and the battery is critically low). Secondly, they are literally flying cameras, whether you are a smart phone photographer or a professional, drones offer you a completely different view point of the world. They can take amazing stills and up to 4k video.

The Mavic Mini can be picked up on a good bargain for under $500 and can go anywhere, hike up a mountain? Take a drone selfie! Travelling with the family? Some drone video will make your travel video even better.

The Mavic Pro 2 or Mavic Air 2 take this to the next level, 4k video, slow motion video, and still shots with HDR or captured in RAW file formats for professional editing.

      Okay I'm rambling. Drones fun.

  • Wtf is a refurbished drone? Been crashed?

    • Most likely someone sent it back due to issues, DJI sent them a new one. The one with issues is fixed and it's now "refurbished".

I bought a refurbished and it's just like new. Unactivated and I guess would also get the 1yr warranty

        • +1

Dji officially refurbs will have a sticker on the package and yes 1 year warranty included.

        • some of the DJI refurbs are just to get rid of overstock parts so you may luck get a new drone with some new other parts but are not originally treated as a set.

    • Could also be the one that was drown and dried up with rice or hand drier j/k :)

    • Fauulty/Crashed (DJI Refresh return) drones, repaired and repacked.

  • Wanting to get mini, but pro seems a good deal.

Anyone suggest if this is the good price?

    • When itā€™s cheaper than gumtree, yes.

  • I was so tempting to get pro, but after this review, I m not hesitatingā€¦

    Mini for sure

I tried to find Mavic Pro deals like this but couldn't found any so i ended up bought the Mini, it's great for beginner but mind that there is only downward sensor on the Mini so you will need to be super careful when flying close to any subject, no activetrack (like the cool following subject scene on YouTube) and WiFi controller (shorter range than the Pro). Video is quite the same on both actually, Pro could record 4K, Mini is 2.7K, manual exposure and ev lock are available on both, so controlling the ev is not really a problem.

    Vegeta doesnā€™t need a drone.

Go the mini unless you need the video quality, I've just spent 6 months in Europe and flew my Pro 2 (which I got new for cheaper than this) once because many countries are difficult RE. their regulations (e.g. Austria, where I spent most of my time, requires you to get a 450 euro permit/year to be able to fly). The mini falls into the toy category for most places and is far less restricted.

  • Iā€™m looking for something reasonable that is at the lower end. Iā€™m mostly looking for something that I can use to check out my roof, etc, does anyone have a reasonably priced drone they would recommend? Thanks.

    • Ryze tello? Or maybe cheap drones on gearbest (mind that video quality is around 720p and have quite limited flight range, around 120-150m because it's cheap)

    • Is a mavic mini in your price range? Perfect entry level drone imo

      • Thanks, I will look up both of these. We have a warehouse we converted and the roof is a long way up. We would like to be able to check the gutters etc without having to get out a ladder. I would also like an idea on an all terrain ā€œvehicleā€ to check under the house as well. I, suspect, a lot of the footage will be our cats looking in the camera.

        • Tello is way too light to fly steadily outdoor especially vertically high up, and the battery runs out in approx 10 minutes. Might not be suitable for your requirement.

  • i just got the Pro, Fly More combo! i missed on a Pro 2 second hand recently so hopefully the first gen pro would do. this'll be my first ever drone which i intend to use for outdoor filming and photography

    • +1

That's adequate, plenty of photographers/videographers are using this. It's like say the Sony A7 series cameras - While it's nice to get the latest A7R IV, people can still get pro quality photos from A7 II. It's up to the user's capability to make the most use out of their equipment.

      • yeah thats true! im only a very beginner hobby photographer - just using my Samsung Note 10 at the moment. but id love a good quality, good value DSLR.
thought id get a drone first as i love going on outdoor adventures and having a birds eye POV is a great way of capturing the moment when outdoors

        • If you like the manual adjustment more. Pro can get out of focus on the corners unless you manually focus/set it up etc. Was annoying me so I sold mine and got the pro2. Was beautiful.

          • @NeoX: yeah i heard about this in a youtube video.. apparently there is a plugin that fixes the blur on corners during video editing on the computer (post-production)

  • Bought the Fly More combo, thanks OP. Was after one of these when the ($500) Kogan credit card offer was live but the credit didn't arrive in time.

  • Guys I got the drone, doesn't link up to the remote. Any advice im close to calling kogan.
