    Ahh the selfish valve mask.

    • Was thinking this too, but I guess people just have to start wearing their own masks?

    • -2

Until far more than 10% of the people around me are wearing some mask, any mask, I'll keep to my valved, long-wearing 3M N95's that best protect me against the unmasked hordes.

Once we get to about 2/3 compliance, I will switch to 3-ply surgical masks which are certainly a lot cheaper and IMHO, likely "good enough" if that many people are making an effort to barricade their germs inside their own airspace.

      • Unfortunately a valved mask puts other people at risk, which in turn puts yourself (and anyone you care about) at risk. Gotta remember the mask alone isn't going to prevent you from getting infected.

So even from a (hypothetically) completely selfish perspective, a valved mask isn't the best choice?

        • At the time this comment was spot on. I came across this post in the past week while looking for masks and did want to raise two things that I think changes things now

          1) the site is selling valve-less masks, if you so wish. It reads to me that this wasn’t the case a month ago

          2) as of August they are shipping the masks with valves with an extra plastic cap to block the valve and effectively disable it. This should alleviate this concern, but means once covid passed if you still want to use the mask for work around the house etc, you can re-enable the valve.

Fully appreciate the negative comments were based on the listing at the time. Just posting this in case anyone comes across this deal now. Currently you either are going to get a mask with no valve or a valve that can be disabled out of the box, without needing to 3D print your own solution.

Actually just purchased the mask because I like the cap they are including. Was tossing up between this or the Cambridge which has a disabler too that’s readily available for it, but for the Cambridge it’s a sticker inside the mask to block the valve and then a small one outside saying “valve disabled”. I didn’t want a solution people couldn’t see and would have to take faith I’d done the right thing when I advertise “valve disabled”. Also seemed like a sticker might lose effectiveness after a while. (I could have for the Cambridge and then 3D printer a cap, but I don’t have access to a 3D printer). The Vogmasks included cap very much looks like the valve is blocked without needing to check inside the mask.

  • What's the original price? Maybe this should go onto Cheapcheaplah?

They are normally $33USD, these arent discounted just posted as they are available and will prob sell out soon.

    • Well this is OZ Bargain… Unless there is a discount for the community it shouldn't be posted. This is not Gumtree.

      • +5

Tell that to all the Nintendo Switch posts over the last six months.

        • So we are now Oz Everyday Price?…dang I am hanging with the wrong crowd, I am not rich.

          • +1

@hippo2s: Hey i agree with you. The question is is RRP a "bargain" (or even RRP+) in times of scarcity and the Nintendo Switch deals clearly showed according to this site, yes, that is a bargain. I don't agree but it is what it is.

A particularly cunning particle that. Fortunately most thinking people have developed an immunity

    • -1

      Contains a powerful BS filter

  • -2

Valved masks will probably be banned where you are.

  • +1

Seriously … why have a valve in mask when it should protect others … will not help at all with the spread of the virus. Good for bushfire and work …

    • +3

Because Vogmasks have been around for a lot longer than Covid has been…

    • Since masks aren't mandatory here, I don't understand why reducing the probability of getting infected yourself (although selfish) would not help at all in slowing the spread of the virus.

You can 3D print valve blockers eg: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4366101 but yeah, they should start selling these from the .sg store https://www.vogmask.com/products/black-vm

    • Note they sell valveless masks now, and also ship a 3D printer blocker with any masks sold that do have a valve. Win-win.
