In terms of knives? Premium. Quality. $24.99.

They don’t go in the same sentence.

I got a set of knives from Aldi about twenty years ago (in the UK) that would have been maybe only a few dollars more (even accounting for inflation). They hold an edge really well and are still going great. I've replaced the plastic cheeks of the handle with jarrah and visitors often ask where I got the expensive knives from.

In other words, low price doesn't always mean low quality.

    is this Knife season ?

The buyer at Aldi saw all the knife deals getting posted and probably thought they want a slice of the action too…

  • Better off buying a couple of Kiwi knives at that price. They're a known quality. These are not

  • +2

You guys should buy the kiwi knives which I posted here two weeks ago

    • Expired, I think.

    …just dont mention the war!

    Valerian steel or nothing

    • +2

Valyrian*, but yes, I would also like to use Ice to cut my steaks haha

      • I dunno.. I'd like a sword that helps me get to sleep 🤔

        • Lightbringer will keep you nice and warm during winter? You'll sleep nicely with that

What's the usual price compared to this deal?

  • +3

    German steel made in China.

Actually I have some from a few years ago and they are excellent backup knifes. Have to love Kiwis but if you want a cheap set and these are anything like mine (which appear identical) they are good value and like the Kiwis, pretty easy to keep sharp.

    • Backup? In case you lose them or something?

      • Gotta practice my stabbing Red…

        HA-HAAAAAAAA

    "German"…. it's not really… SS430 is softer than SS304… just saying

    • +1

Depends on heat treatment. SS304 is softest.

    Are these certified for zombies

    • +2

The utility knife and small clever will go alright as throwing knives for the smaller zombies but at this price not cost effective would look at second hand or get something larger like a samurai sword.

I have Aldi knives very similar to this set(they look the same) consisted of the cleaver, butcher's and boning knife. Even out of the box they were no sharp, and when properly sharpened they bearly stay sharp after 2 minutes of usage.
I would not buy this junk again.

    boning knife

Is that what the kids call it these days?

  • Hitler's knife

  • +1

    Is 6 inches enough?

    • I pretty much only ever use my 12 inch.

    • +1

      For boning?

      • I always cook bones in.

    • She said too short

The following are the applications for stainless steel grade 430:

    Dish washer linings
    Refrigerator cabinet panels
    Element supports and fasteners
Stove trim rings and chimney liners
    Automotive trim and lashing wires

    Not good knife steel

  • Arnold Schwarza-stabber recommends

  • The pots and pans in the same catalogue also claim to be non-stick but metal utensil and dishwasher safe. Is that legit? I've seen the term "hard anodised" on cookware before but all the same historical jist; you just don't put non-cookware into the dishwasher.
I mean I have occasionally if I'm really out for the count to wash up, but knowingly putting a lot of wear in each time.

  • 430 is not a good steel for knives. This will probably be comparable to the cheap knives sold at coles/woolies, edge retention would probably be quite poor. Regardless, $25 for the set is probably good value.
