Same version with AI upscaling? In anycase, this is cheapest price I could find around now though.
Yep, launch price was $349 and then demand went up and supply went down.
I got the 2017 model. I can't recommend these enough!
My Mi Box 3 at ~$75 has served me well. I don’t see any benefit in Shield except gaming?
i mean yea if you dont want 4k hdr, dolby vision, atmos, plex server, super smooth and responsive interface, ongoing support, 4k upscaling etc yeah the mibox is great.
Can the remote of this replace my actual TV remote?
Like Turn on/off, change inputs, adjust volume of soundbar connected to the TV?
For reference I am using Samsung Q70R with Yamaha - ATS-1080 Soundbar
Enable HDMI CEC, u can use single remote for 3 devices
Does HDMI CEC let you change between HDMI inputs? For example, I might have the Shield on HDMI 1 and my Xbox on HDMI 2, will the Shield Remote let me switch to HDMI 2?
NO, the shield remote can't trigger TV menu or change input channel
@jl434: Thanks. It's what I thought too. Got me excited hearing that it could "replace my actual remote" haha
@frankfu1122: Harmony version with a hub. Only way to go.
@a22andrew: Yeah I've got one. The setup is clunky and the loading screens annoy the hell out of me. Playing around and tweaking with delays etc.. it's just ..frustrating..especially after shelling out more than hundred-odd dollars for it.
@frankfu1122: sounds frustrating. Order of activities can sometimes help, too. Anyway, random suggestions often don't help when you have a list of tweaks to work through :)
I wish these things were cheaper! At the end of the day (as the saying goes), these are Android TV devices like the Vodafone TV (just a fair bit better). But you can buy 5 Vodafone TV units at $72 each right from their stores for the price of just one of these (and that’s at the sale price!)
i have both at home but dont regret the shield for a second. if you dont mind the sluggishness of the voda they're pretty fkn good value.
we have the voda box on our second tv but use the shield on my main setup
I have VTV, Shield TV 2017 and 2019. VTV is very good value, but downside doesn't support dolby atmos passthrough
Yes of course you can, but if you're an enthusiast, and want Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, AI upscaling - basically want to get the very best out of your system, then this is the rig for you. We have a UST laser projector and when you're dealing with screen sizes of up to 150", then every pixel counts.
PC Byte is $10 cheaper for $239/$359 with free shipping.
Felt sorry to who bought it here. l0l-
Pro is $369 now
btw, $339 + delivery yesterday from shopping express
bloody price jacker!
Can someone recommend me a tv box which is around $100? Thanks
VTV
Voda TV. Cheers
I had a good look at the Shield recently and I was almost going to buy, but news of the new (proposed) Chromecast / Android TV / Sabrina device was released, so I’m still waiting. Still tempted to grab a Shield, but how far away is the new Google device?
Not sure how far away Sabrina is (xmas here in Oz maybe?), but it looks amazing, so should be worth the wait, although the Shield is an excellent piece of kit ;)
For those who haven't seen it:

I'm in the same boat as you. As tempted as I am for the shield, I think I'm going to wait for the upcoming Google device. Surely will be released before Christmas though
I have 2 of the original Shield TV 2015's. I own a 1080p tv. Is there much to gain from upgrading to 2019? No 4k means no upscaling. The CPU is slightly faster, anything else?
I love these boxes but I'm not sure I'd gain much in my particular case. 4k tv and I wouldn't be asking this.
No - main things are Dolby Vision and Atmos, AI upscaling, new remote, and faster SoC.
Thank you. We much as I wanted to upgrade, I will hold off until I get a 4K TV I think.
Xiaomi mi S vs Voda TV. Which one is better? Thanks
Neither have nothing to do with the deal. Go google it
Probably Voda. I know nothing about the Xiaomi but those who can't afford the Shield TV seem to be very happy with Voda TV
Mibox S is better for streaming and Kodi because it has auto frame rate matching. Without AFR you'll likely notice stuttering video on some streaming, typically 23.97 fps movies on Netflix and Prime, unless you manually change the frame rate to match the video.
Otherwise the specs are much the same, though the VTV is better value, and it has an ethernet port (if your wifi is lousy), and a TV card (if you want to run it on an old TV that doesn't have HD channels) with limited recording function.
Neither compare to the Shield for video/audio output quality and speed, though.

Yeah I bough 2 x Shield TV 2015's back when they first came out, from the US. Cool story - Amazon stuffed up delivery at the time and I never received my Shield TV so I told them and they shipped out a new one. Then a few weeks later the first one showed up! I could have kept it for free but I decided to do the right thing and call them. They said "How much do you want to pay for the other one?", I said… $100? "Done!"
Back then they were worth about $400 locally.
The good thing about Voda TV is that it has two years warranty and you can look for Vodafone if there is any issue. On the other hand, Mibox S is all just from ebay.My Tv is the 2020 model. If I watch free to air tv by Vodafone Tv, is the picture quality is the same as my TV? Thanks
So.. I'll be that person -> Any benefit to this over my aging HTPC? I still utilise W7 for recording rarely (Considering FTA is shit), I have Hulu / Netflix / NBA apps all running without issue as well. (NAS linked for local media storage).
Besides wanky Atmos and some scaling options, I'm guessing not??
careful, comparing this or asking questions gets downvotes here for some reason
THERE IS NO ARGUING AGAINST ENELOOPS, SHIELDS OR SHOPPING EXPRESS ON OZB!
Lower power draw I guess? I've gone the Nvidia Shield route and haven't regretted it but I would love to build an all in one server/htpc to run a DNS content filter, FreeNAS, Plex, Kodi, Transmission, Phillips Hue Sync, Time Machine backups and maybe even throw in PFSense.
A key thing for me that is missing from the Nvidia Shield vs HTPC is that it doesn't have enough power to run Phllips Hue Sync for watching movies.
both still overpriced for what u get pro's need to be around 310
Looks like it's SOLD OUT
Not much of a deal considering the pro was $350 on release day for approximately 2 hours 😂
