Been waiting for 8.5GB DVDs to come down in price … but yeah, for plain data backups, or even short videos and pictures, there's still way too much difference in price between these and the 4GB DVDs … :)
Plus I don't have a dual layer burner at this stage …
The DL DVD burner is the cheap component ($40 or less), but as stated, unless you NEED to have 4.5GB+ on a single disc you're better off using multiple "normal" DVDs until DL prices become appealing (+ they burn a lot faster).

Does anyone know if these are lightscribe compatible seeing as they are HP? I've been trying to find lightscribe discs to test with my new laptop but they seem pretty rare and expensive. Any suggestions?
If these discs were LightScribe enabled they'd carry the LightScribe logo on the packaging.
MSY & Harvey Norman carry a limited range of LightScribe enabled CDRs & DVDRs. I think OfficeWorks also carry some, but only in 5-10 disc packages which are dear. The media ARE a bit hard to find, but not THAT much more expensive if you shop carefully. I find the results can look great (for a mono image) once you get used to the s'ware.

$1.99 for 8.5gb .. that's 23.5c / gb, add shiping price of $9.99 for 10, it's sky-rocketed to 35.27c / gb
As for me, the cheapo way to back up your data is buying hardrive.
$109 for 750GB Samsung (from SI), that's 14.5c / gb
so save more than double of what you're paying for "expensive" disc backup
However…
certain "things ;)" can only be made available via DVD+R DL, and we have no choice :p
