2 year warranty for a pair of bookshelf speakers normally sold for $3,795. Ouch.

    • It's a common warranty period for active speakers, I guess failure rates beyond 2 years are quite high. Dynaudio for example warrants their active models for 2 (+1 for registration) while their passive models are 96 months upon registration.

If you want a longer warranty period, just pick up passive LS50s+your own amplifier+network streamer.

    • How many years do you propose

      • +3

I'm not sure why @akmelb gets downvoted - many manufacturers offer even 10 years warranty for their premium products. From memory, Yamaha is one of these - https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/returnspolicy…

        • +1

The speakers on Yamaha as per the link are also under 2 years warranty?

          • -3

@djmm: I'm not sure now if you are just trolling or blind, but from the link:

            SOAVO Series Speakers 10 Years
            700 Series Speakers 10 Years
            500 Series Speakers 10 Years

Anyway, let's just leave it there, seems like you've never had a chance to buy high-end speakers that's why it's surprising to you

            • +1

@ocoolio: Those are all passive speakers. Much less to go wrong internally.

A closer comparison would be Yamaha’s active studio monitors which come with 5 years Manufacturers warranty. Which is better but it is also the standard among Studio Monitors which have less complicated electronic internals compared to the LS50W in this deal.

Studio monitors - Power supply, DAC, DSP, Amplifiers
KEF LS50W - Power Supply, DAC, DSP, Amplifiers, Bluetooth, WiFi, Network connectivity etc

              • -2

@thebadmachine: I don't see how studio monitors are less complicated than this device. An electronic-panel is an electronic panel, an extra Bluetooth receiver chip makes little to no difference.

The initial point was that a 2-year warranty is rather short for something this expensive, and indeed: many manufacturers offer more for similar devices.

                Therefore, your point being?

                • +3

@ocoolio: The point was you were comparing High-end passive speakers to the Active LS50W.
And I gave you a better comparison.

                  • -3

@thebadmachine: you posted this deal; maybe refrain from arguing how the deal you posted is great. The warranty is shit on it, that the end of it

                    • +1

@ocoolio: Ok. Personally the LS50W is well out of my reach.
Only posted since it is the same price as another recent deal, but another option if people live closer to the store.
It is just a deal, if it is ok is just my opinion and I just think the deal is ok.
Let’s just say if we are both passing on buying these speakers then what we have to discuss is of little interest to us anyway.

            • @ocoolio: Resorting to personal insult when losing the argument is like digging deeper hole my friend.

              • -6

                @djmm:

                my friend

                We certainly are not friends

                Resorting to personal insult

Perhaps you should look at what a personal insult is, you smug

                • @ocoolio: How deep is the hole now down there my friend?

      • +1

How many years do you propose

At least 10, probably 15 at that price.

    • +6

Remember that this is in addition to your rights under the ACL. For a pair of speakers like these, you're likely covered for far longer than two years.

  • These get a lot of praise for their sound quality and vicious criticism for their apps and connectivity.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kef.KEF_WI…

If you want to use tidal you need to pay for roon, which is not cheap (US$10 a month). Not sure how you get other streamers working decently.

    • +1

Nope, Tidal support (and some others) is actually built into the KEF app. But yes the app generally sux. No Google play or YouTube music support. Best option I’ve found is to use a Nvida Shield connected directly to Ls50w via usb. That way you get android app connectivity at full 192khz bandwidth. That or a Chromecast Audio via optical gets you 92khz as well. Best speakers paired with the best connectivity then.

      • use a Nvida Shield connected directly to Ls50w via usb.

Yes those serious about listening will likely connect a transport (CD player / Streamer / etc) using cable to digital input.

        • KEF made a mistake calling these LS50 Wireless. They are not wireless speakers like LSX. Should have called them ‘LS50 Active’ 🤔

          • @pauliau: “Marketing” had something to do with it I guess. Including Bluetooth is also a mystery.

Am I able to play the radio through this?

  • Just wondering for that price, how its sound quality is compared to the edifier s3000pro?

    • For your use-case, they’d be about same.

    • +1

My opinion as a believer in diminishing returns, is that to the average person with the average room setup, the S3000Pro at 1/4 the price will have at least 90% of the sound quality that the LS50W has. That last 5% - 10% improvement in sound quality will be very slight & only be noticeable to a few critical listeners.

And the S3000Pro will likely have better bass extension due to larger 6.5-inch woofers.

      • Thanks for your opinion
Till now i didnt have the chance to hear its sound, I hope that I won't be chasing that missing 10% :D

  • Looks so much better in black

Ive owned the KEF R900 which are a $9000 speaker (youll still need the amps, dac, ect). The LS50 with a sub was perfect, almost matching the R900 in performance. For a small room i ended up going to the LS50 and selling the larger floor stander. Then when the LS50W came out, that got rid of all the electronics which was a NAD Master series (about $13k). It simplified my setup by a lot ($18k savings).

The conclusion is that the LS50w with a subwoofer was amazing and its a great price for what you get in the audio world. Most that say its expensive never tried it or owned a good pair of speakers in their home (bose and sonos arent comparable). Its detailed and youll hear things youve never heard on music before. Take the time to get your ears adjusted. Definitely worth $2500 if you can get one and add a sub to reach out to the lower ranges. Youll be happy. Ive owned two Black and Blue and they look gorgeous.

I used on my bedroom. So was suitable for a 4x3m room.

    • Hey mate, you mention you've owned two pairs.. did you move on from them and why?
Also, what's your opinion on these for near field listening, ie as PC speakers?
I've read plenty reviews of course but it's always useful to hear other's personal experience..

      • If you are after something for close range listening i'd recommend LSX over LS50w. LS50's need some space to breath to sound really good imo. I've got LSX on my desk for PC use and paired with a decent sub will absolutely blow you away and sound brilliant once tuned correctly. I find the LS50s sound better with at least 3m or more distance.

        • Exactly what Paul said. The LSX is smaller. I have not experienced it so I cant give you feedback on it. But they are better for PC setup from what ive read on reviews. The LS50w are more powerful and seem to be better towards larger rooms and requires separation to get the ''3D" experince.
According to review, the LS50w also seems to have better resolution than LSX.

      • hey, I sold because I wasnt using them as I was in parents place (didnt want to annoy with my music). Then last year I ended up getting another. (keep in mind I got them second hand and paid $2500. SO this price is quite good.

If you love music (or like me, who was into music but not that much, after I heard a good pair of speakers for the first time it changed. Even started liking Jazz which isn't something i would have listened to.) and want a good experience, you will need a sub to expand on the lower frequency and also give it more power to the lower frequencies.

As a stereo setup, you will need them apart. at Least 2.5m and a stand to get the correct height. I dont go crazy as some audiophiles that need it to be certain height, distance from wall etc…. but it does help if you research and experiment.

If you can, go test them out in a store. And im sure they will price match.

This is the setup that the LS50w replaced: www.instagram.com/p/BdKFgXNl1CH/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

And this is the latest one, i love the blue and black.
