  • Nice! It looks like these don't have the crappy veg oil and MSG like 'Pork Krackles' so Will definitely give these a try.

FYI there is no scientific evidence MSG (Monosodium glutamate) is harmful to the human body 1

These are so bad. It's what I'd imagine eating those moisture absorbing pads is like

Made in Australia with zero Australian ingredients

    • +3

Almost like most ham and bacon in Australia (well they are around 10% Australian ingredients, meat comes in frozen lumps from USA)

      • +3

Bertocchi Brothers have a few varieties of bacon that are Aus pork and available at most Wools/Coles. Most butchers that make their own bacon are also Aus pork but that is also usually a lot more expensive.

        • +3

Thanks Yeah, I buy that. But that’s not in their deli, their delis have zero that’s all Australian bacon.

Most isn’t Aust pork. I never knew that a lot of bacon is processed and formed into a bacon rasher shape.

          • @PVA: Sad but true.
Not bacon, but I used to really enjoy the Three Aussie Farmers pork knuckle for $8/kg, but then Wools increased the price to $10/kg, and then deleted the line to introduce their own brand at $13/kg.

Aldi is the worst, all their bacon I've seen so far is imported. At Coles it's bertocchi brothers (only 1 of their 2 varieties is Australian), or Coles home brand Australian bacon ($5.50). My local woolies metro has no Australian bacon either. Harris farm has 2 or 3 varieties of Australian bacon, but they're very expensive unless on special. It's quite hard work buying Australian bacon - if you don't check it's exceedingly likely it's not Australian - but family members report it does taste better.

If you want real, Australian bacon (either pancetta or kaiserfleisch styles) and other cured pork meat products, this is where you go if you're in Melbourne:
Istra Smallgoods, 36 Wheelers Hill Rd, Musk VIC

  • I will give these a try, but imported pork and the the price even on special is so expensive compared to J. Crackleton and Gold Medal Pork Krackles.

    Horrors. Didn't know this.

    • Fresh pork is banned from import, but processed pork products are not, hence the result.

      • I think it also needs to be boneless? Obviously bacon is but moreso ham etc..

What aisle do you find this in?

    • +4

Snack foods, usually near the jerky.

  • shockingly bad, had them the other day.

    These are not great.

Our household eats lots of pork crackle, we had high hopes for this product, but no one liked it.

You get a very small amount in the bag and they don't always pop/cook correctly.

The kids favourite brand is Foodjoy crackle, much tastier.

    • Where do Foodjoy crackles come from and how much?

      • -3

        Google?

That’s why I asked, places on google range from $2.68-$4.59 for 50g. Of course locale/postage could be an issue but an OzBargainer who buys regularly will likely be getting it close to the best price and be able to suggest a reputable store.

Made from 0% Australian ingredients and $19.95 delivery. I was going to give them a try.

          • @Cheapskate Paul: I get them at the local IGA for $3.60, kids like them as an occasional treat. Never ordered from them directly, it’s just the makers website.

http://outbackjerky.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&p… $35 delivered for 600g. Made from Australian pork.

    • Even better, $50/kg and ZERO seasoning or additives.
      http://outbackjerky.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&p…

      • Yeah that's a better deal I reckon, just thought people would want separate packets/seasoning.

        • +1

Lol, they might have taken the "keto is pork rinds and bulletproof coffee" meme a little too literally with a 1KG bag. I wonder how many orders would need to be made for them to consider selling a batch in 50G bags.

    • Delivery is + $5.50 to SA

This is what I joined Ausbargain for. I need this in my life.

  • These are so foul tasting. Deal or NO Deal they're not worth getting

  • What isle are they in?
