Star Wars Complete Blu-Ray £55.81 (~$76) and Other Blu-Ray Price Drops

180

Star Wars is the big ticket one here, but there are several other popular items that have dropped to their lowest, while about 2-3 of them are only a little over.. Here are the links on Blu-Ray.com so you can see the price fluctuations yourself (graph icon near price)…

Amazon will do free postage over 25 pounds, and you can also take off 20% for VAT, but the currency conversion is currently about $1.60 per pound. I find it's also generally cheaper to pay in pounds sterling, because Amazon charge more for conversion than most credit cards, but check that out for yourself on your card/PayPal etc.

I believe the VAT is 20%. The Star Wars works out to be $76.84 using the Amazon convertor.

    • Amazon charge a bit of a premium for their conversion as far as I can tell… that's why I reckon buying in pounds is cheaper…

    • Does anyone have a link to show the actual VAT rate?

      • It's 20%, trust me. No VAT on books though, so although they are cheaper than Oz, you won't get any extra off.

Don't forget, Harry Potter complete Blu-Ray set, still £32.30 (~$43)

      • why? we dont pay it

        • Exactly. I was trying to figure out the exact cost without the vat. The guys above are right that it's 20%, which means you divide by 1.2 (not x 0.8) for pre-vat then times by (currently) 1.6 for exchange, plus possible conversion cost.

  • I can't find it on their website but DSE currently is selling the original Star Wars trilogy BR for $40. Was thinking of getting that and leaving out the later movies.
Found the complete pack for $129 but I thought it was about $88 in store - was tossing up between that and original trilogy only - http://dicksmith.com.au/product/MV77833/star-wars-complete-b…

Looks like the extras are mainly on the complete pack - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-The-Complete-Saga-Blu-ray/…

Extras pretty lean on the original trilogy:

    ex-VAT is GBP 46.51 about A$73.

Don't think Dick Smith are doing that deal anymore. But things may hot up closer to Christmas.

Is anyone else having problems on the last stage of checkout with Tron? It keeps telling me there is no stock, when there is….

    • I had problems with the Tron two pack ages ago. Possibly the same now. I ended up buying legacy on its own. The review on blu-ray.com I think says there's nothing all that classic about Tron classic anyway…

I'd never seen either and bought the twin pack a while ago. I watched the original first. I enjoyed it, but I can imagine it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Anyway, it turned out that a lot of the second one is based on the first one and while it probably isn't necessary to see the original first, I'd definitely recommend it to get the most out of the second one.

      • Homer: Uh…it's like…did anyone see the movie "Tron"?
        Hibbert: No.
        Lisa: No.
        Marge: No.
        Wiggum: No.
        Bart: No.
        Patty: No.
        Wiggum: No.
        Ned: No.
        Selma: No.
        Frink: No.
        Lovejoy: No.
Wiggum: Yes. I mean — um, I mean, no. No, heh.

        • great episode that was

    • Yes I had that problem a couple of days ago - I started up an online chat and their reasoning for it was that it wasn't available for international delivery.

    • "Items for dispatch to UK will be sold by Amazon's Preferred Merchant"
I have found that if it is not Amazon stock, then they will not sell to Australia.

      • It's hit and miss, but has improved in the last month or so. If it's "Indigostarfish", they send most (not all) of their Blu-rays to OZ with Amazon's free shipping.

Unfortunately there's no warning until to get to the final stages of checkout. So if you were counting on a title getting you over the UKP25 limit, it's a PITA.

You click on the £11.99 and you see it is Amazon's Jersey Merchant with only Domestic delivery rates.

Like with all Merchant sellers unless they have "International & domestic delivery rates" in the dispatch info they will not ship Internationally (although this is not 100% as I have found out).

        • You click on the £11.99 and you see it is Amazon's Jersey Merchant with only Domestic delivery rates.

          Which one specifically?

I get stuff sent from Indigostarfish all the time. This was sent on 9th Oct.

    • Same with Avatar.

      • Bummer…

Star Wars Original Trilogy £28.31 (If you don't like JJB) - as if the only thing wrong with the prequels was the cartoon rabbit…

    • I could add a long list of things wrong with the prequels, but I'll keep it brief: Hayden Christensen!

      • +1

I didn't have any problem with Hayden. Every single good actor (Portman, McGregor, Neeson, Jackson) were all terrible in those flicks. Even those dudes couldn't polish the turd of a script.

      • I don't know, I think its worth getting just to watch him do the legless zombie crawl at the end.

  • +2

Star Wars Original Trilogy? You mean unbutchered? Or Noooooo!

    • I was waiting for someone to do the Noooo! thing…

  • Can anyone confirm if the Star Wars bluray is region free? Our that'll work in Oz?

    • We are the same region as the UK, so regardless of which it is it'll work.

    • Unless it says "import" (i.e. from the US), anything you buy in the UK Amazon store should work in Australia. They are zone/region B and so are we. DVD's are a different story - they are zone 2 and we are zone 4, although many DVD players in Australia are either region free or can be made so.

The Blu-Ray.com site will generally be able to tell you what region a Blu-Ray will work in, and a lot of them now are region free too, which it can tell you. Just make sure you've clicked the right flag for the country before you search - US or UK, or wherever else Amazon has a web presence.

Anyone buying this now will probably have saved themselves a few dollars vs. this morning, as the Aussie dollar has recovered a bit after France and Germany pledged to back European banks in light of the economic turmoil in Greece.

  • both avatar and ironman won't ship =(

    • Iron Man shipped for me last week at that price.
