Don't forget the extra 89 cent saving using MBC. Cheers Kirt.

  • Do these have a handsfree port so they could be used with a helmet on?

  • I got a pair of these during the first offer and my god are they tiny. Very good deal for the price the one issue I have is their power output is quite low so unless you are on a flat field with no trees you wont get the quoted range.

Did you skip school the day they discussed Fresnel Zone? I sure wish I did. :-)

      • I had to look this term up. That was a silly thing for me to do:(.

  • Do these have CTCSS? The manual says dont use CTCSS on 5 or 35, but no other reference to it?
CB radios are pretty useless without CTCSS in my opinion

    • It says it has an "Automatic Squelch Feature". Could this be the same thing?

      • Dont think so - i think auto squelch is what switches the speaker off while there is no voice (otherwise you'd hear lots of white noise and your battery would run down rather quickly)

CTCSS is a little tone that gets sent at the front of your transmit so that people with CTCSS CB's in your group can filter out all other chitchat (or abuse) from others who might be using the same channel.

Hi, I'm here to present a brief message from the apostrophe police. Please remove the apostrophe you have placed in the word "radios".

    Thank you, that is all.

  • Great deal just bought one

      You mean 2? ;)

No he only gave them $15 then ran away laughing

  • very tempted… just wondering if they'll be suitable between 2 cars traveling within 1km of each other…

      Are you…Vin Diesel?!

    • they arent too bad, we used one not that long ago, not easy to hear though, (not overly clear) in the car. good enough to get the basic message though though.

These could come in handy in the Galaxy SII line…

I reckon the 1st and 10th person in line could just yell out to each other

    • nah i rekon by the end of today, if you wanted to talk to someone at the start, the range wont be long enough. (some people just cant count)

      • Hi, I'm here to present a brief message from the postulative police. Please add an apostrophe in the words "wont" and "cant".

        Thank you, that is all.

and to prove weve seen people cant count based on the buyii freebies "first ten to post and message him on ozbargain get the coupon for free lunch" you always get people asking after hes said its over multiple times…. now all i need to do is fit your in instead of you're and this post would be perfect.
          example: need i say more?

  • price beat at officeworks, 5% better than 3.5% from mbc

    • not sure if they would price beat an online price

  • Thanks, a good deal, bought a set!

  • bought these last time around, work great out on the lake fishing between boats..

  • I got a pair on the last deal. They are quite OK, but no CTCSS etc… just basic devices.

The tiny volume controls are a pain, but the quality of the units and transmission is fine (for the price).

  • you are better off getting a pair that includes a charger and batteries, otherwise these will sit in a draw unused after one session using them.

in a car, the range may be 1km or more line of sight but often will be be less, as the metal car body will partially shield the signal.
a 5W CB with an external roof mount magnetic base aerial, and fed from the cars power would be much more versatile.

the narrow band will make you appear very soft and quiet when talking to a 40 CH CB, also reducing the effective range.

  • If you want something cheap to chuck in the glove box - Jaycar have 80 channel units for $19.95, $17.70 if you have a trade card or buy multiples. Grab a set of varta ready to use batteries (or Jaycars own long life NiMH which have 80% charge after a year storage) and chuck it in the glove box til u need it on a long trip or in a traffic jam.
Channel 40 is truckies channel, except on the pacific hwy between bris and syd where it is supposedly 29 (but both get used)

    • yeah this thing wouldnt really be that great for long distance communication as the range is pretty poor, they are best used on cruses and tight grouping of cars travelling.
