It's best to keep them at room temperature and with little or no light (not in the sun).
You don't have to keep them on their side, however you can, which might give them extra shelf life.
Next winter is not an issue to keep them if stored well, but not many people we know can resist such temptations:)

agree with you. From my experience better to buy around 15-20$ for a well known (Pepperjack,penfold,wynns etc) / good reviewed wine (amex offer or boostbud offer). Last time when i ordered 6 pack Shiraz (original price 240$) paid 50 bucks, could not enjoy those wines , finished it just for the sake of alcohol content.
