Wow not a bad price for the hardware however not for me, I vowed never to go back to hp laptops after the thermal issues I had.

    • This is no exception. Thermal issues galore. You ll need cooling pads if U wanna keep this tamed. Even idle fans kick in. Returned a whole batch.

      • I have one and it is probably because it doesn't go to sleep when you close it and put it in a bag. So when you go to use it you have a hot laptop with a flat battery. I have tried a few things I thought worked, but when I go to use it? Hot and flat.

That's bound to shorten its lifespan.

Do your research before buying these, the HP forums have many people with battery and thermal issues on the business variants including the 1030 G3 and 1030 G4.I had the business model X360 1030 G3 and swapped to the 1030 G4. Both advertise battery life is less than half the advertised. My work place has 3000 of the business models and they all experience the same issues, even with the out of the box Windows 10 image installed direct from HP. Unsure how the consumer models compare but as I said, do your research.

  • I got the 4K 2TB model from a previous sale. The hardware and performance is top notch. It is basically silent in every tasks and battery is pretty decent. It does get hot and throttles quite heavily in games which defeats the purpose of having the i7.
For this price, I would recommend getting something else that has better thermals/performance underload.

    • Do you find that your fan is always on? I have the same machine as you and it gets noisy … also i find it sometimes freezes as I have 2 monitors connected via a hub … happy with $2.1k for a 2TB 4k but those are just my annoyances

      • I only do light office tasks, web browser and Netflix. The fan is general very quiet. It does get loud when I start gaming or do more graphical intense work.
I imagine having 2 monitors hooked up would need quite a bit of graphics power to keep it running.
I have another x360 for work and the 360 hinge is tugging on the internal monitor cord and making the screen go off sometimes.

    • No point buying the HP for gaming. For gaming the Asus below is a far better buy @ $2250 + $100 gift card, despite it's size and weight:

  • I have another x360 for work and the 360 hinge is tugging on the internal monitor cord and making the screen go off sometimes.

Ahh so thats why my screen goes black randomly sometimes, as the monitors disconnect and then reconnect … it's all really weird as my standard setup is with the keyboard facing down, and the laptop screen flipped backwards ….

I thought there was a fan setting for silent or something … but yeah, fans are always on! =)

Yes that's my standard set up as well with keyboard facing down.
Also, my work x360 has monitors disconnecting randomly from a worn USB C cable connection, you could try a new usb C cable see if that fixes it.
