Those who know about this I don't have to say much. All I can say is not a bad price for Martell Cordon Bleu Cognac. Get it quick while it last.
I bought the Martell XO Cognac 700mL Spirits bottle for $207.99 but it's out of stock now.

Not OP but I'm a scotch drinker that's never really dipped into Cognac. Do you have any recommendations for someone who wants to try it?
definitely good stuff
Nah I kind hate cognac. Like, it's ok, like a sherry whisky, muted, never a long finish. A simple spirit. Just never seemed to get that good, which for me, means interesting and complex with a long finish. Whisky is just unique in that regard, and I have gone far enough into gin and tequila (but not rum, admittedly) and it just seems whisky has something no other spirit can capture.
Just buy a cheaper bottle and decide if you like cognac. $50-$70 meukow either vs or vsop at Dan's is a good bet (according to a friend - wheres I tasted it and thought it was a bit rough). I reckon scotch is better. Maybe someone else can suggest a pricey alternative I'd you want to jump in the deep end. I don't think there's much to find though.
Tldr Meukow vs or vsop for around $60 bucks at Dan Murphy's
That's great, I really appreciate the response!
@InsertCrow: Don't go for Meukow or VSOP. It's definitely rough and you'll never appreciate cognac if you try the cheap stuff from the get go.
I recommend you try this (Martell Cordon Bleu) full of flavour and goes down oh so smooth.
Not as good as the Martell XO but it's up there.
@InsertCrow: Well. There you go. I stand corrected. But I continue to question why a $70 bottle of cognac tastes like rubbish, but you can get very decent $70 whisky.
Most of the time there's no reason to get a bottle of ehisky over $120, but sure I'm paying $150 here for something which doesn't embarrass cognac in general.
Call me cheap. Everyone else does.
@ozbjunkie: Because of the source ingredient, which is scarce.
Cognac is made of vine grapes from a particular region in France. And the best always do have at least part of it from Grand Champagne or Borderies. The "eau-de-vie" is directly affecting the taste of the final product.
Yes, quality cognac is more expensive than quality whiskey.
Same as a beer drinker may say that he can get a really good beer for $15 a litre, while he can't get a decent whiskey for double of that.
@tm001: Well I'm about to find out if the complexity and long finish is comparable (or as some argue, superior) to a good whisky. Bought a bottle on a whim.
Hey if you're going to not particularly like something, best to know enough about it hey?
Here goes nothing.
Do not start witch a cheap cognac, as you end up with the same experience as described here.
A good cognac has its complexity and definitely a long finish. You get both with XO cognacs (which this one is).
From my experience the Cordon Bleu is appreciated by the most "general public".
It is a nice complex drop, bit on the sweeter side, with a really nice finish. Very drinkable. One of the bottles I need to replace most often.
@tm001: Cognac lover here, and I mostly agree. Can't always afford the good stuff, however, and for me St Agnes brandy (yes, brandy) is closer to the good stuff than cheap cognac is, and very cheap. Also, it's Australian made.
@Chuckler: Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely put this on the list, what's one more bottle after picking up 16 bottles during this eBay sale?
Edit, would you recommend the St Agnes vsop or the xo? Xo is about $100, which is in the middle to upper side do my comfortable price bracket.
@ozbjunkie: @ozbjunkie I think the VSOP is good enough, can't bring myself to spend XO money on a brandy when midtier cognac is so close pricewise!
@Chuckler: Indeed. What a dangerous thing to toy with here, I really hope I don't end up enjoying cognac as much as whisky. I'm not poor, but I'll get there pretty quick if I pick up any more love for the top shelf.
i'm more single malt whisky person. occasionally i would like some cognac but it has to be XO and not VSOP. Some ppl don't really like the spice from the whisky and find the smoothness of cognac is really good to them. so it's really the personal preference in my opinion.
will this go well with Chicken? a la chicken cordon bleu
Goes better with coke.
hell yeah… my mum cooks the chicken with cheapy congac and the soup is OMG goodness. especially good for ladies after giving birth but can't eat too much otherwise can't breast feeding to the baby.

I don't want to start an argument, but cognac vs scotch just never seemed to be much of a competition to me, especially as a value proposition. You drink whisky too op?
