Additionally, these are on sale tonight for $98, then coupons will take it down to $87, then a cashback will take it lower (as low as $75 if it gets boosted to 15%).

The Cloud IIs are based on the Takstar Pro 80 driver, while the Cooler Master MH751/752 is based on the Pro 82, albeit poorly. This is a bass-tuned Pro 82 version with a mic that bests the MH751 (and thus the Cloud II).

Mic test for the Takstar GM200/Shade for those who are interested. I would definitely get those over the MH751, which I would in turn opt for over the Cloud II. If you need a USB sound card, look at the MH752, or perhaps research an affordable in-line DAC, as I'd imagine they'd only be $20-$30 for superior audio to what's in the Cloud II cable.

      • … This is awesome, but I have so many questions.

        • What coupon? None are listed on that item.
        • Your comparison never mentions these by name (GM200), are you saying these are better than the HyperX, CoolerMaster and Takstar Pro lines?
        • GM200 > Pro82 > MH751 > Cloud IIs > Pro80.

Are there any DACs that'll give me 'Mic Monitoring' with these (GM200) headphones?

        • What coupon? None are listed on that item.

Standard promotional coupons for AliE, combine them with a cashback. Here's both on one page.

Your comparison never mentions these by name (GM200), are you saying these are better than the HyperX, CoolerMaster and Takstar Pro lines?
          GM200 > Pro82 > MH751 > Cloud IIs > Pro80.

I mean, I mentioned the name in the preceding sentence? Though it is confusingly written: the best mic would be on the Cooler Master, but the best audio is the Pro 82 and the GM200. The GM200 is a warm, bassy take on the default Pro 82 presentation without completely destroying the tonality of the headphone.

The MH751 also attempts this, but there was a driver revision for the Pro 82 while it was being designed that upset the tuning they had opted for. Rather than invest the R&D money again, they just rolled with it.

Are there any DACs that'll give me 'Mic Monitoring' with these (GM200) headphones?

I'm not really familiar enough with that side of things as I use a desktop amp and will eventually graduate to an desk mic and an XLR interface. There's a big thread on Head-Fi dedicated to both the Pro 82 and the GM200, where there are some 'budget' recommendations, but nothing specifically for this purpose.

Do you mean you want to switch to a mode that allows you to live monitor the microphone? Is that super necessary for you compared to the minor latency penalty via software? Seems more important for an XLR interface or hardware mixer, so I'm not sure you're going to see that in any budget recommendations.

@jasswolf: It was all there, there was just a lot to take in. I ended up grabbing a set of GM200's.

Also looked at a couple of little portable DAC+Media players too (Fiio M3Pro and Shanling Q1). Both based around the ES9218P DAC, with X1000E processor for 32 bit/384kbps FLAC playback. Slight size, power and battery life advantage to the Q1. Main difference is Q1s has Bluetooth vs the M3Pros voice recorder, ebook and calculate 'apps'. After sale discount and coupons, they both come down to about $100.

            Thanks for your response yesterday

@BluBoy: Same DAC as the LG V30, nice! The Pro 82 v2 are my daily driver at the moment, you should enjoy the hell out of them.

  • Does anyone have these, and can confirm whether or not the cable is detachable like on the Cloud Alphas?

My son is on his second headset this year, and desperately want to get something with a replaceable cable and mic (and preferably for under $100 if possible, but can go over a little)

    • +1

It is not. Buy high quality headphones if you want them to last. If it's not the cable, or will be the headband or materials wearing over time.

      • My sons pretty rough on them, which is why we have these issues (he has sensory issues and ends up chewing on the mic or cable without realising it).

At the moment I'm torn between getting a pair of Cloud Alphas (I have these and love them), or just getting him crappy $30 headsets.

He does love his headsets, and becomes very attached to them (it's also a bit of a calming thing for him to wear them, even if he's not using them), so I would prefer to get something quality, I just can't afford too much.

        • Would you consider m50x?

        • Maybe take a look at the Cooler Master MH751. I bought mine for $99 but looks like its up to $119 now. It's made by the same manufacturer that makes the HyperX cloud series (Takstar) and has a removable braided cable.
Though the padding is much softer and plush than the Alphas and might? get damaged more easily

      • I've had these headphones for about 5 years now and can confirm that whilst they've been great the cable is now starting to stick out of the nylon braid and parts of the ear cushions are starting to peel. I'm still considering buying them again.

    • I'm in the market for the cloud flight - wireless. Maybe that'll solve your cable problem as well?

      • That's more than I'm willing to spend.

Plus he'll be using these on PC, Switch, Xbox and Android tablet, and switches between all these regularly. Wireless would actually be more difficult

I have these. I am quite happy with the quality. I’ve used these most of the day Saturday and no pain or any discomfort, no wear noticeable after a couple of years of infrequent use. A single 3.5mm plug into a USB amp. I just recently bought the aftermarket version of the amp for my wife’s headset and it’s works well.

  • 10/10 headphones worth them.

  • Good quality imo

  • This is annoying, just bought the Arctis 7 after my HyperX's broke… Wish I knew this was coming. Would recommend these cans.

I’ve had these for around 4 years now and would recommend. I wear them most of the day for work for music and VCs, and then evenings most nights for a couple hours to game on PC. Very comfy and ears don’t get hot. Only issue would be the ear pads are just starting to show signs of wear. I will buy replacement part, or these again if completely broken

  • I have the cloud alpha, I need the replaceable cable. It's nicer to pack away for trips and ive already stepped on my jack and bent it a little.

Got these for $65 2 years ago and at this price point they are great. Am only just replacing them now for a higher quality set of headphones + a standalone mic
