  • Nice, though I ordered one just this afternoon for the non-special price! To cancel (and wait for the newer model) or to try get the reduced cost?

  • If you ordered it this afternoon then you can cancel and reorder using the coupon code :) Give us a yell tomorrow.

To be honest the way the dollar is going (its about 0.95 which means we all get about 0.93) I doubt the new one is going to be that great in comparative value as these ones we purchased at a comparative high dollar, the spec looks very similar as does the case and will not be around for a month or so yet. We still sell the 8635 based media units and people still love them as the pic quality is as good as the new models, the A210 is a very good unit.

The coupon will stop working when we reach our desired stock level, but there is quite a number available.

    • Nice sounds good - I lodged an email to cancel the other order, and I'll place a new order then.

      • Its already done :) thanks for the new order

  • This is an awesome media device. I would've bought one if I didn't already have a c 200. I wonder why they remove rf with this model, stopped me from buying this for my other room.

    • Do you mean the RF remote?….the A210 comes with a IR remote as standard, only the C200 comes with a RF remote but you can buy a IR kit for the C200 if you wish.

      • No, I prefer the rf remotes as it doesn't need to be pointed at the media player. I can store them anywhere and the remotes will always work.

        • +1

doesn't work too well with a universal remote though…

  • Title says A210, but description says Package Contents A-200… so which one is it?

    • A210 we fixed the description :) sorry for the confusion, it is the newer model not the old A200.

      • not the old A200.

        lol… i'm still using an A-110 !!!

        • I'm using an A-100! ;P

which is why this deal is tempting me…

Anyone know if the remote codes are the same between the A-210 and the old A-100? I'd hate to have to reprogram my Harmony remote…

  • Are you selling a200 or a210?

    • This is is definitely the A210, we have fixed the description, incidentally however the motherboard is interchangeable. Its only the A210 case that is different.

But these are sealed new Popcorn hour A210 to be perfectly clear

  • What are the advantages of this to streaming via PS3?

    • +3

For one thing it plays MKV natively, it can also play Bluray ISO off a HDD or network. You can play straight off a samba share of a NAS, USB stick or internal HDD.

The seek actually works…even over the network and its quite fast as seeking over the network, like to see a PS3 do that

The NMJ ie the auto thumb nailing of movie covers and IMDB descriptions works pretty well as well.

It also does DTS HD pass through very well and offers some pretty good video services as well, such as youtube and facebook amongst a lot of other apps.

      • For one thing it plays MKV natively

and defintely plays it better than the WD TV Live…

        The seek actually works…

seek is a bit flaky on the A-110 though

        • what does seek do? skip 30s or something like that?

  • Any specials on the C200 with coupon code? $250 pretty please? ;)

  • Boxes ship UNOPENED from popcorn Hour, no QA or firmware update and will have wrong power plug.

    Then

We wish to reduce stock (but not deplete) because of upcoming models that may be available in a month or so

If they are shipped direct from Popcorn Hour, then they aren't in stock are they?

But a nice unit - should I trade my iXtreamer?

    • they are shipping from OUR stock

    • Ixtremer uses a realtek chipset, they are different animals. we also sell the equivalent product. I have a preference for Sigma media players, Its like fords and holden cars though :)

  • I've still got the original A100. Its a bit old obviously, some files dont play on it, and the quality for playback is sometimes a little…well, not perfect. The one reason I still use it is every file I put into it the player will perfectly convert the sound through the hdmi cable to the tv in a good stereo sound. So that everything isnt loud and voices are soft since the sound source is 5.1, something that every other player I have doesnt seem to be able to manage. Can you give me some details on if this new unit continues this trend and how it compares to the original. Thanks heaps.

Hmmm. Fanless. Awesome move there imo.

That said, if it had a dual tuner I'd find it impossible to resist. :/

    • Are there any with Dual HD Tuners?

      • no Sigma design chipset has never released a reference design for dual tuner and probably never will.

        • +1

Kills it for me. I've run out of audio ins for my speakers. :/

        • Yeah me too. I've already got enough units.. This one sounds Awesome, but without Tuners It would take up space i don't have. (Otherwise i could replace a unit with this one that had MORE functionality)

          Oh well, thanks for replying

  • The egreat players use the same sigma chips and same operating system, use the same mods and in this case are nearly 1/2 the price

    • This was true for the 8635 devices, but egreat never came to an agreement with Syabas on licensing for the 8643 upgrades. We are a Egreat distributor as well, hence if this is your choice we can help you there with Egreat product running the licensed A110 firmware. While its possible to run PCH C200 firmware on the Egreat S2, its not entirely legit and half the price is not correct, that said the build quality of the S2 is very good. The newest firmware from syabas will not run on Egreat hardware as they renewed the bluray license, indeed if you try the firmware upgrade it will fail. Egreat have since hired software engineers to write their own firmware which still needs work but its getting there.

Sigma designs never released a dual tuner ref design hence why there is probably never going to be a dual tuner sigma solution. This is where the realtek chipset wins, but they seem to struggle getting that working properly.

The A100 is ancient, but there are always files media players won't play, sometimes because people go out of their way to try and break them…but features have been added not taken away in the new models in most cases….particularly in network speed, and free apps like facebook, youtube etc

  • Whats the benefit of this over an atom based media pc running xbmc?

    • Its a LOT cheaper

Don't get me wrong I am a XBMC fan, but the good thing about the A210 is that there is a whole lot less messing around with it. You CAN just turn it on and watch a movie, it is purpose built for this application.

I ran XBMC on a mac mini, in fact I had them side by side for months, but when it came to sit down at night its the media player I switch on.

Of course the Atom also has a browser, but I look a browser all day long, when I sit in front of the TV its for movie watching (or TV shows)…or youtube sometimes….the A210 (or C200) fills this need. But for some people an Atom or mac mini running xbmc may be more desirable if you have the dosh.

      • Is it wall mountable ?
Does it do coverart? And all the same layout as say xbmc

    • Yes its the sigma8647 is in the same class as 8643, its speced at roughly 20% faster (in real terms), in the same case as A210 with the same featureset and apps. Local availability is early to mid November. We do not have pricing yet but due to the dollar falling its probably going to be the same price USD as the existing A210, therefore the lower dollar will make it more expensive than the A210 currently is (before the special that is).

The 20% cpu will improve samba network and USB transfer speed from about 100 to 115M/s (untested), other than that the feature set is very similar. Picture quality/playback/codec set/HDMI/DTS HD passthrough remain unchanged as far as we can see, but they have added Real media codec support (though I never use RM files).

  • Can the A210 play 3D BD ISO's ?

    • No, nor will the A300 (sadly) but they both support 3D MKV. The 864x are all in the same class, the 3D bluray iso chips are still vaporware for media players and will be next year some time. Hard coded ones are obviously available for blurays but these are not media players.

Update on price on A300 is same in USD to a "bit more" but still not released, we have asked for our price matrix because while they have asked for our orders, but they have not told us how much yet…lol.

      • Damn!

Might still have to go the HTPC/W7/XBMC/TMT5 route to get 3D BD ISO's to play.

EDIT: Actually.. will it play the .mts file?
EDIT: Oh Snap! I think it will… MPEG2 Transport Stream (TS, TP, TRP, M2T, M2TS, MTS)

Can you confirm if the A210 will play a 3D mts/m2ts file?
On that note, is their any difference between a normal BD mts/m2ts and a 3D BD one?

        • Sorry do not know answer to this, I do not have any 3D Ts files to try, might try looking in the networked media tank forum though.

  • Actually we just received the pricing matrix, A300 will be high $200s and USD approx 20% higher than A210….so our need to lessen stock just diminished a fair bit….we will leave this special running for as long as we can though…..

  • Any info on 3D mts/m2ts playback… this is the only thing holding me back from purchasing one.

    • Please refer to this article for full information on 3D playback, note I have not tried this myself

      http://support.popcornhour.com/article.aspx?id=1130

But apparently the answer is yes

      • Have to add a few letters to file name…

EDIT: Actually upon further reading, it will not play the mts file from 3D BD ISO's.

It will only play Side-By-Side (SBS) and Top-And-Bottom (TAB).

How can I cancel my order now?

        • done we have cancelled courier booking…..

Its probably a good idea to phone us in this circumstance. Thanks :)

        • Un-Cancelled!

The temptation to be able to watch 3D porn was too much ;)

      • Okay, I am at home and I extracted a 3D BD ISO… I assumed the main stream file was the same as a normal BD ISO which is usually a single .m2ts.. I was wrong.

The main files for a 3D BD are in a .ssif format, and of course there is two of them.. deerrrrr.

I guess I'll have to resort to encoding/converting to mkv.

  • silly question.
how to check out? there is no check out link or button.

    • I am not sure how to answer this sorry. Once you add to your cart click "go to checkout" button, then submit your info for shipping details and stuff, click submit at the bottom, then click go to checkout again….follow your nose.

If its not straight forward please send us a email letting us know what browser you are using, but it works for the most part as we have sold a lot of these units today.
