these would be hynix chips if anyone is wondering: https://www.kitguru.net/components/memory/luke-hill/klevv-cr…

    • Could you please explain the chipping branding info that people keep posting? What is what and should I care?

      • If you don't know, then you probably wont care :)

People are after certain chips and the most popular at the moment are Samsung B-die and Micron E-die. Both of them overclock really well, and depending on your system and budget, you may opt for one over the other. The average Samsung B-die likes tight timings and "lower" speeds where Micron E-die like higher speed and looser timings. B-die will probably offer greater compatibility and user will benefit easier as most cpus can run the lower speeds and benefit from the tighter timings.

By far the best bang for buck at the moment is Micron E-die, as they overclock very easily without the need to know too much about overclocking. This is good for the average Ryzen user as the CPUs shine on higher memory speeds. Google Ryzen memory speed scaling.

I paid < $200 for an 4x8GB kit of Crucial Ballistix Sport LT, rated at 3200C16 which are happily running @ 3733C16 without too much tweaking. Of course your overclocking results will vary depending on CPU, motherboard and memory itself, but buying a 32GB kit rated and guaruanteed for those speeds will cost a whole lot more.

        • Thanks for the info. My overclocking days are behind me now. I assume then the Hynix chips should be fine and will run at the rated speeds? Or am I still better off getting Micron or Sammy chips?

          • @Puti: If you are on Intel, you are almost guaranteed these will work,on Ryzen you could, but not necessarily, have issues running them on rated speed. Micron E die have better compatibility for Ryzen. This all being said, even on Ryzen for the evarage user these will be fine unless you are very unlucky

          • @Puti: This kit probably uses Hynix CJR/DJR ICs which are decent. As for running the kit at its rated speed, that depends on the CPU (mainly) and motherboard.

    The klevv or this: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B083TRX7FX/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_i…

I've got the Ballistix on order but still 2 weeks away. Would the klevv arrive before then?

    Decisions.

Depends.I assume you have a ryzen setup? If so,crucial compatibility is guaranteed with added overclocking headroom. If you are the set and forget type, you will see no real world difference between the 2.Also 32gb vs 16gb to take into account. For gaming only,16gb should be enough.

  • 3600mhz cl18 performs very similar to 3200mhz cl16. If no overclock is involved then probably it's better to just get 3200mhz cl16 kit for $30-40 cheaper?

    • On Ryzen, the speed of your memory also affects the speed of your CPUs infinity fabric. You'd really like to have the 3600cl18 over the 3200cl16 even if they work out to have the same memory latency.

On Intel systems, I believe you are correct - shouldn't make much of a difference except for large sequential reads/writes to memory (doesn't happen often outside of specific benchmarks)
