I found Youi to be the most pushy and expensive out of the lot would avoid like the plague

Yes, once you give them your phone number, that's it.
I haven't had to exercise my home contents insurance yet (and hopefully never need to), but at least their perks is 5% off JB Hi-Fi gift cards. Did this all online, and didn't receive a single phone call.
I'll probably switch when it's time to renew it.

      • Be careful, from memory Youi has auto renewal on their policies

        • From experience they send you an updated policy a month prior (with autorenewal)

    • My friend got 24 missed calls over 3 days after a simple online quote

      • +1

I received 60 in 2 days and from different numbers

        • Jussssst a little excessive i think. Can we beat that anyone?

      • Yeh I had about 6 missed calls a day for about a week

    • I recently got a quote from them. They started off asking if I already had a quote from elsewhere. I said "will you make it cheaper if I do?" . Sales guy replied "No" so I said well you don't need to know then. He finished the quote, was way higher than my existing policy, and when I told him, he immediately knocked $50 off - which was still more expensive. Even if it was cheaper I wouldn't have used them after that experience (the whole phone call took ages too.. why not just provide an online quote!?)

Because they know they are not cheapest and want the rep to push you through to them.

This way no cold call needed and can sale to the right person getting ready to buy.

They think it is no lost for them but in fact the more they do this the less customer they are going to have, people avoid them by word of mouth.

  • I don't think you can get the online quote. We have to populate the forms and then they will call you. Then they will call you again and again if you don't sign up.

I wish cashrewards had it's own section on ozbargain. Seems like a cashrewards site at times here.

I didn't neg you but why not just hide Cashrewards deals if you don't want to see them? Problem solved :)

    • Once you start using it you don't understand why it took you so long, its accepted at a lot of online stores.

My CR was never paid on my Youi policy last year. It's been sitting as pending for 12 months on my account. I have asked the CR team on 3 different occasions to investigate it but, there is nothing they can do apparently.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve contacted cashrewards 3 times and they’ve responded with a pretty generic response each time that they’re doing what they can and have contacted youi etc

I don’t think they should offer this cashback when it’s impossible to get it. I think mine was due at the beginning of May.

      • Just an update on this, CR have sorted it all out and I now have the $50 sitting in my account :)

    • The CR team have been fantastic. Even though Youi still didn't update the status of my cashback & did not provide CR with any payment from my transaction, the CR team decided to pay me out of their own pockets. Sublime service - CR have gone above and beyond.

Looks good on paper, until sht hits the fan…

So far we find NRMA the easiest to deal with. Reflects on premium, slightly more than competitors.

    • None of that is particularly surprising though, people have been reporting negative things for a long time, since they initially started probably.

Their entire business model is predatory.

      • As a counterpoint - I have been insured for a house and car with Youi for several years. At the time I joined, they were the cheapest option with the cover I wanted.

They have been easy to deal with on the few occasions I've needed to contact them, including a substantial claim that was paid out quickly and without any argument.

2 or 3 years ago I called them when my renewal was due, because the premium had jumped substantially. I sent them copies of lower equivalent quotes, and they were happy to match the competing rate.

The Rewards app has been handy on a couple of occasions, but is mostly useless if you don't live in a capital city. However, I am still comfortable with being a customer while their rates remain competitive.

        • +2

The problem is that they obviously won't fight you on a claim they know they can't get out of, but they will if they think they can.

Thats why its better to go with an insurance company that doesn't try those tactics.

        • Yep, Youi has been nothing but good to me. These other users claiming 60 calls in 2 days is purely just insane.

  • I find Youi to be quite good for our needs. They always come in cheaper and try to price beat competitors for me.

    BUT
If you’re going to use the cash back option, go online first and get a quote without it and then do a second quote through cash back. I did this and found that the cash back quote was over $100 more expensive because the system doesn’t apply the internet discount to the cash back quote (which is not a code but aapplied automatically behind-the-scenes according to the Youi rep). When I told the Youi rep about my lower quote (On the same phone call that the cash back quote was generated), she signed me up with the lower quote - but I don’t have any logged cash back at Shopback yet. I reckon I won’t either.

Maybe we should monitor this as a community because the reality might be that it costs you more to go through cash back than going directly through Youi’s website. Thoughts?

Steer away from Youi. Dodgy business , they held my refund for almost a year.
