  • Could I use this to clean my mountain bike chain?

    • +1

Yep, would strip out all the old grease and oil from the chain. Oil afterwards though because otherwise it'll rust pretty quickly

Dont see why not however just regular degreaser may be cheaper
      https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/bendix-bendix-degrease-4…

There are fancy bike specific degreasers which may not be as harsh on your bike components however degreaser, kero etc use sparingly in the direct area will be good enough. More importantly, you need to relube it properly.

      • Cool, yeah been using specific bike degreaser but it's almost finished and yep got chain lube already

      • I'm not going to be using this for a bike chain, but as a cleaner before painting some parts, what's the "harshness" this can have on parts?

        • I was more referring to cleaning bike components with just regular degreaser, brake cleaner etc. Some people stick to citrus degreaser or bke specific ones as it (may or may not) contain harsher chemicals than say normal run of the mill degreasers.

For bikes however, I havent had a issue, just dont go spraying the whole bike in degreaser as you dont want it to get in to wheel hubs and headsets bearings to dilute or wash away the grease - provided you arent servicing them at the same time

        • Its good stuff, I got some last time this deal was on.

Have used it to refurb a derailleur pivot that was gunked up, when sprayed on the steel bushing it came up shiny like new without even having to wipe it.

    • Please dont - its way too harsh (brake cleaner)

    • Personally I use kerosene on a rag and wipe down the chain on my motorcycle. Can't see why you couldn't do the same for a bicycle.

I agree with others that brake cleaner is too harsh a cleaner to use on a bike chain.

My understanding is if you drench or soak the chain in any solvent, you are likely to remove the lubricant inside the rollers and actually cause more issues by doing so.

  • good deal, thanks

  • Great deal, thanks for sharing as I use a lot of this. You should put the $15.49 per can normal price in the title so everyone can see what a great deal this actually is.

  • Not sure if it has or is close to expiration date since it's so cheap ? But bought 3 anyway. Thanks

    • Don't think it will go out of date, I had a can of this hiding in my shed for over 15 years and it still worked like a new one.

  • Apart from brakes and bikes, what else is it good for (apart from stripping paint as well…)?

  • +1

Bendix brakes 2 for $85 too

    • Hell of a deal that one

  • +2

Just got a few cans and tested it in the carpark on a couple of cars nearby. Came up looking good. As such off to buy more again for myself.

  • Awesome price!! great find.
