comes with the 18-55mm IS lens
priced the same with pocket cameras =O
Still a current model?
it's an entry level to SLR family, I am not aware of newer model for this type
1100D is the newer model
this one is quite old
nice, thanks for the update =)
Can you please upload receipt?
Just asking, what's the benefit of uploading the receipt? You print it off and ask for price match? It just helps with price matching, or guarantees it?
I think it's to prove the deal.
Sometime it does help in price matching, not guarantees….
I did last month price matching at HN chadstone for Nespresso machine using one of those receipt uploaded on OZBargain.
So many fake receipts. Stores are not matching them. They will price match only if they want to, otherwise they wont.
Now a days they look for catalogue price or online price for the price matching store.I asked for the price match in HN Auburn againist MSY (where is only 1 block away) for a D-Link DIR-655 router. The price tag in HN is $199 while MSY (the competitor) lists it for $99. HN asked me to go to buy it in MSY. HN boss should stop complaining about the oversea online store and GST. They can't even compete against the store in local area with GST included.
Don't understand why people neg if I am simply asking (politely) for receipt.
it's your name. Reminds me of something
body only? single/twin lens kit? Need more info….
mate i work in the Alexandria area pop in to pick up bits and pieces for the office just posted it cause its a dam good deal that's all…
i know what you mean
but at this price for this slr i think that 3 would suffice.you got a few supporters IVI, limitied stock are better suited for the forums…
good price though. 150 bux cheaper than anywhere else i saw from a quick glance.
I had a post pulled out by the moderator based on the same reason, one store, not a lot of stock, but really good price. At the end of the day, I think it's worth posting if it was a really good deal and someone might benefit from it. If a moderator decides to kill it, then let it be.
If any Ozbargainer was lucky enough to get this deal, then absolutely it was worth posting. It's just that I'm not that lucky Ozbargainer…
I've got the 1000D with IS twin lense pack 2-3 years ago fr around $1000. Bloody awesome little package, the IS lenses are good, but a bargain with or without. I'd be surpised if it includes lenses
didnt you read the OP?
"comes with the 18-55mm image stabilizer lens" or did he add that after?
3 minus 1 = 2
you can thank me later sweetyBahahha!
HAHAHAHA
I am supportive of this post, great price, and I don't care that there is only 2 left. Maybe there are more available at other stores for those who are interested. If this was something unconfirmed or the last was one was sold, then it would be a different issue. Very few get to the forums, and would probably miss this post otherwise. Thanks for posting.
i sold my 2 yr old 1000d TWK for 500
bargain for my pocketis this just at one store?
Expired now? So I guess the last two have gone?
i have got one of them (not display one). the sales guy push me to buy the 2 yrs extended warrenty. extended warrenty any good? any suggestion plz?
not really, specially for the price they change…
i'd rather just use that money to buy a camera in a couple years time…
each to there own though,i would say it is extremely stupid to buy the extended warranty. these cameras either have problem on day 1 or last forever.
i bought my D90 over the internet (grey imported) about 3 years ago for about $1200. never had any problem. i am waiting for the coming of D800.
yeah
canons are built quite well
got 450D a few years ago
and its finethe 1000D is quite plastic but for 400 bucks, dont bother with extended warrenty
ext warranty with the enrty levels it not such a bad idea, the error 99 was fairly common, i caught it twice and a mate caught it with collapsed shutter. its either they were poorly assembled or noob/user error eg like using slow cards, dirty contacts etc.
Harvey Norman really push push push the extended warranty thing. I had a sales guys convince me that a brand new xBox 360 was doomed to get some ring of death, so much so that I almost didn't want to buy it anymore, it sounded so inevitable.
yeah the sales staff make a killing from the commision on the extended warantee…
For this price, not a bad camera at all.
none available in the Cairns store - checked on my way home.
thanks champs for the advise. i think i will refund the extended warrenty. can i refund the warrenty i paid for?
Yes you can within 15 days.
Can you please upload receipt?
very good deal , has anyone tried a price match anywhere else?
how about comparison with pentax kx ?
Look at my post on (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/53915#comment-611205), not a comparison as such but it mentions the Kr (choice of body colours) not the Kx, (by the way I saw the Kx at Teds Cameras on Elizabeth St. Melbourne for $499.00 yesterday, I dont know what the going price is). The Age article.
I got a Sony alpha 35 body only from Corio Hardly Normal for only $600, any opinions good deal or not? Boy did they push the extended warranty though, sales girl was almost crying…
All these cameras are excellent but you are basically locking into a brand, especially once you buy an external flash, (which really should bend in the middle so you can bounce off ceiling.) The 18-55 lens is a cheap lens with limited zoom, but will give 'infinitely' better photos than a point and shoot, which were about that price 5 years ago.
Non in Harvey Norman QV Melbourne….
wow
i hate deals like this, only 1 got it (and it was display) and everyone upvoting without trying it
You sound like the Smurf that hates everything!
Good find. Very much worth posting, despite limited quantity available, as it serves as important information to buyers, of what pricing on this model is doing in the market at the moment.
As mentioned above this model was superseded by the 1100D which has been out for a while now - so other distributors may also be looking to clear remaining stock of the 1000D. Posting this find on OzB is invaluable information to potential buyers, so they can know what price to aim for.
Given that the SLR habit requires ongoing investment in lenses and other gear, you are generally locked into whichever brand you choose. In general with SLR's there are only two brands worth going with: Canon or Nikon. These are the two long-term stayers - who will continue to lead the field. Others will produce occasionally innovative and interesting products - but these two brands will be the overall leaders for the long-term.
This camera could be a good starting point for someone wanting to see whether the world of SLR stills is for them. However be aware that the more recent models in the entry-level range also offer viable entry-level video-via-SLR options.
Note that the optics on kit lenses makes them usually not worth having - as they undermine the high quality of the actual camera body.
If you find a good offer on a Canon or Nikon body with a 18-55mm kit lens, it might be worth seeing if you can get the dealer to swap the kit lens for the similarly priced Nikon or Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens (i.e. non-zoom) produced by either Canon or Nikon. These lenses are cheaper-feeling plastic lenses, but have surprisingly good optics producing great results - leading them to be very well reviewed.
A single 50mm prime lens for an entry level DSLR is far too restricting. You're going to need a wide angle lens sooner or later.
I don't know why someone negged you. What you say is very correct. Most beginners won't like the restriction placed on it. and if anything, get the prime with a 55-200mm.
Not to mention that the prime lens costs ~$200. And the kit lens is actually in a box with the camera, with Nikon. Not sure about Canon.
Someone's been negging most of my comments lately. I think the Canon nifty fifty does cost ~$100, but the Nikon one costs ~$200 for the AF-S version.
I agree with you Kheob. Also most users will want a zoom at some time. However, none of the Nikon or Canon kit-lenses can match the photo-quality that their SLR bodies can provide. Any user paying even 1 cent to own a kit-lens is compromising the SLR quality standard which they self-evidently aspire to.
I'm not sure that there are any zooms under the AUD$400 mark that are worth owning. Happy to be disabused of this perception. (I hear reasonable comments re the Sigma 18-200mm OS - though I haven't tried one - loving my Nikon 18-200mm VRII for walk-around use).
What lens came with it?
