  • 15% of RRP?

    • No, off ticket prices.

    • haha, this is JB Hi-Fi, not Harvey Norman.

  • soo tempting… now which DSLR camera should i choose…..

    • +2

Depends on your budget I guess, I've heard great things about the Canon 600D.

Should probably try and get Harvey Norman to beat that price with their guarantee ;-)

      • pretty flexible with the budget, I'll pay extra if it is worth it. I'm afraid of getting a expensive camera with so many features and manual adjustments that a pro might like but would make me confused… friends say Nikon is the way to go, would the D5100 be too hardcore for a beginner? or stick to D3100 as suggested for beginners.

oh I totally forgot about price matching! will definitely give that a go thanks :)

        • +2

Well, buying a DSLR is a huge decision. once you buy a Nikon or Canon, even Sony and etc. you're buying into a 'system' and you're stuck with it. because it's unlike a Point&Shoot where if you buy one and 2 years later, buy a second one.

I bought my D90 last year and I kindof regret it a little not because it's a Nikon.
but I was gonna go more into photography than I expected, so I should have bought an FX instead. so, I would recommend to do a little bit more research, how much you want to go into photography(very expensive hobby maybe), and what's your budget, go into a shop and handle all the brands, learn a little more about it before you dive into the deep end.
DSLR is not a good looking gadget that hangs off your neck. My photos looked much worse than my P&S before it started improving drastically. :)

          my 5cts worth…

        • I started with a d5100 as a beginner. I'd say there's not much of a difference in usability - but there is a difference in features and image quality. I believe there is a guide within the software of the d3100, but I didn't find myself at a loss without it - depends on how you learn, I guess.

        • I got the D3100 from harvey norman for $620 last sale…Don't know if JBhifi will be able to beat that

        • I agree with Andreu to a certain extent. I know people who have changed systems and i'm not talking about 1 or 2 lenses. Probably $10k worth of gear and up. One friend even changed from sony to nikon to canon to leica to hasselblad. 5 systems.

I personally am a canon user, but i always say, buy what's the best for you. You can't go wrong with any of the brands and all of them have fantastic lenses. My opinion to new users is to always spend a little bit more on the lenses. Don't go with kit lenses at all. Consider buying a body and then throwing on a lens like Tamaron 17-50 f2.8 and a 50 1.8.

I have spent close to 20Gs on bodies and lenses since i started photography 2 years ago and i still don't have all that i need… or rather want. LoL. I went from a 500D to a 7D and 5D combo with film equipment etc.

You need to understand the type of person you are (is it a fad?) and decide from there. What kind of photos do you like etc. Maybe we can help you out more with your decision. But generally if you know you're going deep, go with a better body. If you're unsure go with the cheapest body.

        • Don't forget Pentax Kr, best value for money as they are priced nearly on par with the rest of the world (Pentax pricing policy), very good reviews. Im still rocking the Pentax*ist (Winner best compact SLR award, back when I bought it-6 years ago!). The Age's green guide recently did a good digital camera/SLR piece, my favourite quote 'Buying a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer, it makes you a Nikon owner".
Have a read if you are interested.-Posted it just for you. Sorry Pentax photo a bit blurry-shaky hands!

Pages in order 1-4 and Pentax photo, Cheers!

        • Buying pentax turns otherwise rational people into walking advertisements. Endowment effect.

In all seriousness, a bit of bargaining would probably get the K-r down to <$550, which is a good idea if you know what you want in the future.

        • Trysaeder… Im not taking it personal, but What ARE you saying!?

      • I've got the 600D Bought thru Kogan.com.au only cost me around $739 delivered! and if you see the prices JB or HN have you might be interested.. just remember you get 12 month warranty and can extend.. but it isn't local warranty.. but still I love the cheaper price!

  • Do they sell Dell XPS 15z???

    • +1

They have a different model compared to what is on the Dell site tho.

  • perfect for Nikon, and also could be price match at OW.

15% off at JBHIFI, and then 5% off match at OW.

    • Thanks for the reiminder. Grrr why doesn't OW carry the D7000.

  • Remember Kogan have much better deals on DSLR's.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/52913

But remember they are grey imports but still come with 12 months warranty offered by Kogan themselves with the option of extended it for 3 ($79) or 5 ($99) years warranty.

  • I'm more interesting in the 60 months interest free on TVs.

  • Does anyone know if "Laptops" include netbooks also?

    • Yes, it also includes monitors too. If you click on the 'buy online' button, the price will be displayed with the discount applied.

  • Thinking about getting http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/acer/aspire-one-10-inch-n… as ~$300 works out a pretty decent price for a dual core netbook with 6 cell battery and decent screen res. Wish it were cheaper though :P

Has anyone successfully haggled the price down further during these sales?

    • it's 338 as per your link after the 15% discount…not that attractive

      • Something has gone awry with the site on that one, as 338.3 down from 358 represents only a 5.5% discount. It seems to be discounting from an original price of 398 rather than 358.

      • Ahh I never pressed buy I just assumed 15% off the ticket price. It's definitely something I'd be prepared to argue about :P

    • Are there any other netbooks that seem to be decently priced?

    • Now the correct reduced price is showing. Also I noticed it's elligible for $39 cashback http://www.shopacer.com.au/ecprod/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Load… which makes it $265.30 - why does JB HIFI not promote these cashbacks? Am I missing something?

  • What happened to the HN thread last w/e with 20% off Nikon?

  • -3

The terms ALL and EXCLUSIONS-APPLY don't mix. Shame on them, and also you for repeating it.

    • +3

      Bit harsh on the OP…

    • I would tend to agree, but consider the following.

Doesn't it sound a bit stupid to list every brand that does qualify when only 2 don't?

"15% off Toshiba, Samsung, HP, Compaq, Dell, Acer, eMachines, Alienware, Gateway and Asus" just looks plain silly.

Even if they were to say 15% off MOST or SOME laptops, it's just not a compelling advertisement. Sure, I've taken what they said, and didn't go into specifics about what is excluded in the title (mainly to shorten it) but if they're having a sale on most of their brands, you can't expect them to belittle their own sale.

  • whats the difference between the two jbhifi sites?
the prices are different. look at the 5d mark 2
    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/digital-cameras/digital-camer…
    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/photo/digital-cameras/canon/21-1mp-…

the JBhifi.com.au site is where the catalogue is.

bit slack if you ask me

    • 15% off 2893 = 2459

      • -10% if you're going overseas. $2459 / 1.1 = $2235. More expensive than the cheapest grey by almost $100. Worth it for local warranty and instant gratification.

        • I was looking at getting a D700 but they dont have it in the catalogue.
Might drop by tomorrow and ask.
If you go overseas, you have to keep in mind that you might have to declare the value when you come back in if they put a note on your passport. thats if they put a note on your passport when you get the GST refund

  • d700 is 2432 or something like that. i asked, ticket price was 2800 something
was also keen, but figured im happy with my d7000 and itll keep me happy till next year

    • Do you shoot a lot with your D7000? Have you encountered the dreaded oil on sensor problem? Just trying to see if this problem is still common as i'm in the market for a new cam body.

  • I just bought a laptop on tuesday, very happy with my deal.

But for those interested in a proper sized laptop (ie: not the jumbo 15.6" models), then i would strongly consider this deal:

    Dell Inspiron 14"

Intel Core i5-2410m 2.3GHz With Up To 2.9ghz CPU
    4GB RAM
    500GB HDD
1GB ATI Radeon HD 6470 with 1GB Dedicated Graphics
    14" Screen (1366 x 768)
    Win 7 Home Premium
    DVD Burner combo
    3 USB Ports - 2.0
    Media Card Reader
    Webcam
    WIFI
    HDMI

    $593

    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/laptops/del…

No USB 3.0, but for under $600 for a 2nd Gen Core i5 laptop with decent 1gb graphics card, it's a Bargain!

Was considering this myself, but decided to spend a bit more and get something with usb 3.0, and Bluetooth 3.0HS, and thin and light (Samsung QX412-S01AU).

  • Just picked up the D5100 Twin Lens kit for $996 after some negotiating. 20%+ off their ticket price.

  • Canon 600D twin lens for $1050
