Good deal for 500GB of nvme storage.

Even better for those like me who missed out on the Crucial P1 NVMe 500GB @ $98 + Shipping from SE

    • +2

      Or the P1 1TB m.2 for $132 :P

      • +1

Don't remind me. Missed out on that one by seconds.

        • +1

          :-(

          • @pacificstorm: Not much promise of me actually getting a delivery yet anyway, still deliver date pending.
Bit odd As it's showing 1 in stock for $172.

            • +1

@G-rig: I've got notification that my P1 has been shipped.

Amazon might struggle to get enough stock quickly and they're probably filling the orders in as they're getting some stock.

But they'll likely honor it, so keep up the faith. :)

              • @Jef Tino: yep no worries :)
Did you find/get a heatsink that fits?

                • @G-rig: No, my motherboard already has M.2 heatsink. :)

                • @G-rig: Mine came yesterday and installed it this morning and now downloading some games in it. You should get yours soon too.

                  • @pacificstorm: Right my Mobo is a more budget one (B450M mortar) so doesn't have that I don't think.
Amazon said it's out of stock, however as soon as we get items in stock we will ship it in the next moment..

                    • @G-rig: Oh. So I should count myself lucky then for getting mine already, since some of you guys are still waiting for delivery and others like yourself are still on the waiting list?

                • @G-rig: SN550 is very cool without heat sink.

Bought 1, thanks OP. Didn't quite want to spend $200+ on the WD Black 1TB but happy with Blue 500GB at this price point.

They're completely different drives. One's DRAMless and the other one has a DRAM Cache. Price Per Gig, it's very similar, so I'd probably just pick the SN750 for the better performance, endurance, warranty and lower power consumption.

      • Well if they had their usual price gap no screw the SN750 but at the same price per gigabyte then definitely. The SN550 still has a fantastic controller which allows it to perform incredibly well for being DRAMless.

        • It uses HMB - host memory buffer - for systems that support it. So it'll be slower due to this, and not every system can support it.

          • +1

@happychappy1: What criteria does a system have to meet to support it?

            • @Void: Your OS needs to support it. There also needs to be support for NVMe 1.2 and above.

              • @happychappy1: So you're saying as long as you're not daily driving Linux and your motherboard is fairly new it will work just fine?

      • +1

Valid point, but was only looking to boot Windows OS in 20 seconds rather than the 5 mins it takes a 1TB 5400rpm Barracuda to boot. Didn't want to spend $200+ and 500 GB capacity is sufficient for my requirements.

Have a Metabox Clevo P650RE with 3 x NVMe slots so can expand later, if I ever need to. I also don't game on this laptop so the purpose for the SSD is purely to boot Windows faster.

    • The black is $129.29 + delivery from the Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/offer-listing/B07MH2P5ZD/ref=dp…

      • Out of stock till June 12

  • bit the bullet, not bad for price, lucky for Amazon Prime too.

    • Yeah I got a Kingston A2000 (inferior with half the IOPS) for $95 AUD pre-COVID, this is a very solid deal.

    bought one thanks op

I'm gonna hold off until 500gb nvme get under $100 posted

Being this will take like 2 weeks to get here and with the dollar at almost precovid, I feel like local sellers will be this price by then

  • if only they made a 2TB version….

  • +1

    It's $105.05 now.

    • Thanks - updated the title.

  • How can I tell if this is compatible with my laptop?

    • +2

If you can take off the back cover of your laptop the below screenshot should help identify if your mobo supports m type key used by NVMe.

There should be only one notch on m2 slot on the right side when looking from where you fix the screw.

  • $218 1 tb black vs $107 0.5tb blue?

    • +5

I had this same question a while ago.

Did a little research and my (non-technical) opinion is it boils down to two questions:

      • Do you need 1TB?
      • Do you regularly read and write large files (20GB+)? Dumbed down, this takes 6s to write 12GB of data, then slows down to writing 50GB in 50 seconds. Is that enough?

I don't need 1TB, and I don't often work with big files, so I ordered this.
      Thanks OP

        Black sn750 500g was 117 a few weeks ago.
I have cancelled 1tb black due to the same reason

  • decided that I can't wait for either blue or black from the US and went to CPL and bought a Kingston A2000 for $219

  • Looking at upgrading the 128Gb HDD on my non Retina MacBook Air and wondering if this would suit?
