Only $1 cheaper than standard price at MSY/CPL/etc., so not exactly a huge bargain.

  • keep in mind there's a free community based program… just google 'Open Office'.
i've been using it.. love it.. perfect for most student/home needs.

mmm… Better do some research on the Open Office kerfuffle and why there is now a better alternative called Libre Office, which is a branch of Open Office.

There may still be some reasons to use Open Office in a commercial environment but for a home user, Libre Office is the way to go.

Have a read if you're interested. As a nerd, I found it most fascinating.

      • wasn't aware of kafuffle/libre.. so cheers.

i have now read up on it… definitely gonna try libre out.

Seems a good price. Most pcs now come with the free Microsoft office (free not trial) but is only word and excel. My son has been using this free version and it works fine (and sorry stichy I think it is much better than open office)

      that's ok = ).
by memory, I'd have to agree that the office suite is a superior product to the alternatives I've tried so far.

however, even i was given a free copy of ms office and a free 'open source' alternative.. i'd probably use the latter, just to support the idea… but that's just the type of guy I am.. don't expect others to.

  • Yeah, you'll struggle getting positive votes for a $1 saving on a $100 product.

  • if anyone here works for or has family who works for a large organisation (education depts/govt departments/large corps) check this link http://www.microsofthup.com/hupau/home.aspx?culture=en-AU and ask your family member to check if it applies to them.

I got it through my work for $15 and the license covers 1 desktop and 1 portable install for the primary user.

    • That is what I have on my pc - the full enterprise version for $15 - most stuff I didn't install. At the moment my son just has the free version that was supplied with his pc.

  • If you know Chinese, you can get it for about $25,http://ms.shop.edu.cn/. And install a language pack to tranform to English

  • What I don't understand is why pickup only? It's just the license itself. wouldn't be too hard to email the keys, would it? Unless this is just an attempt to get people to visit their store…

    • That'd be completely against the EULA of that particular product. Plus if it ever came up, you wouldn't have the Certificate of Authenticity to prove your ownership.

Hell, I think just selling it on it's own like this is against the EULA too.

  • If you're a student this is a better deal for $99 as it includes Outlook, Publisher and Access:
    http://www.microsoft.com/australia/office/startinguni/

    • And the "Product Key Card" version listed in this post is only good for ONE computer whereas the "Disc" version can be installed on THREE computers…

      To quote Microsoft Australia's FAQs;

"If you purchase the Office Home and Student 2010 Product Key Card, you can only activate and use Home and Student on one PC or device."

"If you purchase a Traditional Disc retail license of Office Home and Student 2010, the retail license terms allows you to install, activate, and use Office Home and Student 2010 on up to three PCs in a single household."

      • The Academic version is different to the Home & Student Version. Personally I would prefer the Academic version as I have bought mine from ItsNotCheating since I really need the Outlook. However, some people may not need Outlook and would prefer to have three computer license that the Home and Student version offers.
