  • Was $169 on the 11th of May, apparently.

My neighbour purchased one of these last month. Absolute garbage

    • +6

Thanks I thought it may have been a trap.

    • +2

      Why? What's the problem(s)?

      • within the first 3 uses it caught on fire and was a smoldering mess.

        Yes, they followed the instructions

        • +22

Apart from that it was all ok?

          • +1

@mauricem: lol, about 3/4 of the foods made in it were properly cooked. For example, the first thing they tried was chips whilst most came our really nice and crispy, some were lukewarmish and soggy

          • @mauricem: lol gold.

    • +1

I have this (bought 2nd hand for $25) and it's fantastic for dry roasting nuts and a multitude of other things. It's relatively small and light (vs many other similar air fryers). Of course it would be rubbish if they didn't know how to use it or thought it would magically turn them into professional chefs ;)

      • It's relatively small

But it's 12L. Can you put a whole chicken in there?

    • Ha! Nice.

    • +2

So did you fish it out of his bin?

  • +1

Great price. Have the exact one at work, works amazing. Cuts oven times in half and cooks through better as well.

    • easy to clean ?

  • +1

Have the exact same model, does an OK job.

The heating element isn't a full circle, more like slightly over 3/4. That side of the oven doesn't brown as well.

This replace a visually similar air fryer that I bought from OO.com.au that lasted about 6 years, hoping this will last at least 50% as long.

    • easy to clean ?

      • The metal bowl is easy to clean, just take it out and wash in the sink with detergent. A lot lighter than the glass bowl in my previous air fryer.

The glass lid is the hard part, easiest thing to do is to give it a wipe down with a paper towel when it is still hot, however it will never be a 100% clean. It will eventually have the baked on grime look, used my last one for about 6 years with no food poisoning, lid looked really grotty when I threw it out though.

There is also a black shield with holes over the element, you can give this a quick wipe down but the only way to really clean it would be to unscrew it.

These comments pretty much sum up mankind's views on air fryers. Some think they're brilliant, some think they're garbage. Others are on the fence.

    • +11

Can be applied to everything else in the world lol

    • +2

People saying that a $70 airfryer is garbage has more to do with the product quality than the actual product though

      • +2

Nup - more to do with understanding what they are best for… Quality is fine. It has a mechanical timer and temp gauge. No digital circuits to potentially fail.

        • -1

Τhere is literally someone saying that the heating element only works at 3/4

          • +1

@nikoris: They're referring to the coverage area, not the strength level.

  • Would this do the job in handling my weekly chicken breast intakes?

  • I guess you can roast coffee with these.

    • I would like to know this too. Can you use an airfryer to roast coffee?

    • +1

It's possible but there are a few shortcomings - it's max temp is too low, air flow a bit low and drum spins too slow. You could roast coffee beans but it would take you 30mins to get to 2nd crack and it wouldn't have great consistency (slow spin).

You could disable the temp controller (just bypass it) and replace the async motor with something that spins faster. Preheat before inserting the drum with beans and go from there.

i just came here for the comments.

  • I have the older version of this (hand me down from a friend), it's amazing. The rotisserie bit means zero flipping of food required and very even cooking. (It's quite fun to clean though)

    • Is it good on roasting coffee beans and nuts?

    • +2

This one is almost 4x larger and has rotisserie. So unless you're only feeding 1-2 people or lack bench space.. the choice is clear.

      • +1

oh yeah i forgot about the capacity.

      • It also has a glass bowl allowing you to see the contents. But the heating element is further away from the bottom of the bowl so imagine it wouldn't get to the same temp nor air speed. Different beasts.

    • +1

The kmart one works well….frozen chips ready in twenty minutes..but the capacity is small and suits single serves….

      • +1

Perhaps the newer kmart ones are smaller? We have the original one they did a few years ago. I can cook a kilo of fries or 750g of steakhouse/wedges in mine.

  • +1

    This or phillips?

    • +2

      Philips for long term relationship
      Kogan for one night stands

  • +1

    Isn’t this a turbo oven?

  • The rotisserie function seems most interesting… Anyone care to comment on it? How does it go for chicken / lamb? Many other uses for it?

    • +2

I use it frequently for chicken wings and drumsticks. Wings are easy and quick (8-10mins with a good honey/oil). Drumsticks need the thick part in the middle and take longer.

I high shelfed the woolies confit duck this week (yum).

      I haven't attempted a whole bird yet.

      • +6

I don't know what that term means where you come from, but "shelfing" a confit duck sounds remarkably painful.

        • A high shelf at that. My eyes are watering.

  • I'd say if Kogan is heavily discounting it, it normally means they have too many and no one is buying them to make room in the warehouse…

  • +6

I got one of these for free sent to a parcel locker, kogan are amazing.
    /s

  • I saw this in Star Wars , this is a Bad replica !

    • +2

We do call it the UFO at work ;)

      • +1

Now we have an Area 51 or equivalent worker here. We demand an AMA session in the forum!

  • +2

I have the first generation of these, the Turbo Oven and it works fine.

Chips don't come out that great but decent.

I have been able to cook, a turkey (with the extrension ring), chicken, pork belly all OK.

  • What’s the difference between these types of air fryers and day Phillips ones that are like capsules.

    • +8

glass container (can see into it). element is higher from the food and air speed is lower. More versatile as you can use a rotisserie (both drum and pins) but bigger footprint so takes longer to heat, slightly harder to clean, bigger to store.

      • this guy air frys

      • Fantastic, preference?

      • Do they use more electricity?

  • Are these what Filipino's call 'turbos'?

  • thanks OP ordered one.

Let's see if these things are any good.

  • +1

Oh check it out, the gimmicky turbo ovens from 25 years ago are back.

IMO, these suck. YMMV. Some people like air fryers after all, and these were the original air fryers.
