          • @keejoonc: Yea it's almost the size of the iphone 11 pro or s10e, yet a whole 1.1 inches smaller screen.

            • -1

@onlinepred: Yep, tell that to the fanboys. What's the point of small form factor if the screen is so small?

  • iPhone 7 case from 5 years ago

  • Why do I get the error "This seller doesn't post to your location"? Any idea?
Update: it went through now. Weird

  • Worth upgrading from iPhone X for 5 months before iPhone 12 Pro?

    • I would stick with the X because the SE has the button.

      • Well the button is better during COVID-19 times with face masks now recommended by the CMO.

        • Unless you wear a face mask indoors, I don't see that becoming an issue.

Hanging on to my old iPhone SE. Just ordered a new battery and hoping that should see us through for another 18 months. It has been a faultless phone. I'm sure the new one will be fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing it slice in price in the coming years.

    • It will run out of support soon. Next iOS is probably the last version that it is entitled to update

      • +1

I think it is most likely already on the final iOS. That's why Apple is releasing the 2020 model.

    • Your old SE is nothing like this phone, it's a 8S really.

    • Handed over my wife's iphone 5 to our teenager kid - out of support ios, 2 screen replacements, 2 battery replacements, physical buttons hit or miss - but still very functional and usable smart phone.

      • +1

the cost to replace 2 screens, 2 battery can justify you for a new phone.

        • +1

          All total under $50 :)
Edit - all replacements done by me - it's very easy for ip5 :)

          • @bajirao: Really? Can you tell me how? I have one with broken screen

            • +1

@huubang: I got from Amazon (local AU stock) but in case they don't have stock you can try ebay or Aliexpress. Tons of videos available on youtube (typically would take 10 mins to replace the screen). Yours is ip5 only or later? With 6 onwards it starts to become difficult.

  • good deal

  • Thank you, just bought the last 128gb in white for my wife's Bday!

    • +3

      Thanks dear.

  • Just of reminder, if you got a mate working for apple, he/she can get you 15% discount on any apple product, although quota is limited like 10 per year per product

  • Seems like a good deal and a great upgrade for my parents who still are rocking a 6S!

  • +3

Nobody's mentioned that the reason the SE is so popular (and the reason Apple upgraded it) is because of its pocket friendly size…..especially with males who like something less conspicuous and don't want to stuff a TV sized phone in their jeans.

    • +3

Especially with males? You mean just people in general right? This isn't a problem that only males have lol.

      • +1

Women have bags generally so they can carry larger phones.

        • Men have briefcases, backpacks, and big pockets…. The physical size of the SE2 is the size of the iPhone 11 pro, or the s10e.

          • +2

@onlinepred: 5mm shorter and in width, also 40 grams lighter the bigger difference.

            • -3

@[Deactivated]: Wow, and suddenly 5mm makes it so much easier to put in your pocket? Yea okay buddy lol.

              • @onlinepred: Did say easier you goose, I just said the difference.

                • @[Deactivated]: How do you measure that though, at that kind of differences you would also be looking at the thickness and weight of your pants, shorts, fabric etc.

Also s10e is only 2gms heavier, and less than 4mm height difference and 2mm width.

      • ze schlong gets in the way

        • +1

You have pockets on your head?

    • It's the same size as 6,6s,7,8 lol, no where near a SE size. 8S.

    • There are actually better phones like the S10e at almost the same price. The reason its popular is because its a more "affordable device" with the "Apple" logo.

People argue about the 5 years software upgrade they get. But who would want to carry a phone that was designed for 2015 in 2025? Its already not appropriate for 2020.

  • Solid upgrade from anybody coming from an iPhone 5, 6, 6s, SE, 7 or 8, wanting a camera upgrade (Excluding the Plus variants except for 6). Pretty much an XR squeezed into an 8 body. Even has portrait mode. If you couldn't care less about the camera, or have a 7+ or 8+, then stick with your existing phone

    • +1

Portait mode doesn't work for everything only people.

      • Which is exactly the same as XR. However, thanks for bringing that up as it is a decider for many people.

        • Halide app works good though

If anyone manages to find a good screen protector without 'ghosting', please let me know. For those who are wondering, no, the iPhone 7/8 protectors don't adhere properly since the 'curvature' of the screen is slightly different. Apparently, Apple didn't release the correct specs to manufacturers on time so even those who are branded 'SE 2020 compatible' often are not. More on Whirlpool.

    • +2

Most branded ones probably are okay. What I found is feeBay cheapo ones are no good.
The one I use is buddee from (interestingly) BigW. BigW sell them for $3.75 from memory (iPhone 8,7,6,6S). You get 4 sheets per pack. Try 1 pack first.

Originally, I thought only Galaxy S-series would be a pain to apply screen protectors. However, it looks like all of them are hard due to most phones now tend to have a bit of a curve at the front (even if the display part is flat). The buddee one happens to be just enough to fully cover the flat part. However, just like most PET screen protectors nowadays, the margin for error (in terms of positioning) is low. You want the protector sheet to cover the flat part only (and as much of the flat section as possible).

      • I’ve tried multiple myself. Even the Belkin ones sold by Apple have issues.

        • +1

Okay, then you probably won't be happy with buddee screen protectors. Basically, you get like 0.5mm of coverage outside of the flat screen display area. Because any bit more, it would be in the curve area.

There are two other possible solutions. Neither is that great. One is to go for full body glass protector, which would have a bit of curve (which would normally be coloured black). Another one is go for Hydrogel protector, which is soft so can adhere to the curve. Problem with Hydrogel protectors are they are a pain to apply and they attract marks and fingerprints.

          • @netsurfer: That’s not the point. I’m aware that you won’t be getting cheap edge to edge protection with any curved screen. I’m simply pointing out that protectors that work on the 7 and 8 won’t fit the new SE (it causes 2 to 3mm of ghosting around all sides).

            • @bozbargain: Well, with buddee one I bought, there is no ghosting, it doesn't go into the curve area so there is no halo effect on the screen protector (when applied correctly).

However, because of that, if you look very close to the screen, you can see the edge of the screen protector (despite it being transparent, with the light reflection, you can still see that edge line). As I mentioned, it needs to be applied close to perfect positioning). If you misaligned it just a little bit and any part of the screen protector landed in the curve area, you will get a little bit of halo (I think that's what you refer to as ghosting?).

I only tried the PET one. I did buy a glass one, but given that I am happy with the PET one, I don't want to take it out and try the glass one. It's a pain to apply screen protector correctly nowadays. I stuffed up the first 2 sheets as I did not align one side well enough.

Hydrogel, you won't have halo or ghosting effect, that's what I use for my old Galaxy S9 Plus. It has a curve screen, PET simply won't be able to handle that. The curve glass protector is not that great. Hydrogel deals with the curve best, but I don't like the material. Also, it is a pain to apply because unlike PET ones, which can use sticky tape to clean specks to deal with air bubbles, Hydrogel is a real pain.

              • @netsurfer: So you’re saying you have a buddee one on your iPhone SE and don’t experience any of the issues described in that Whirlpool topic? If so, I’ll try one myself as well.

                • @bozbargain: I don't have the Belkin one. Also, I only tried the PET (plastic one). My guess is this:

                  • feeBay cheapo ones I've got - gosh, they really saved on material. Zero gap, just enough to cover the flat screen. Had some other issues with those cheap ones.
                  • Buddee - only 0.5mm extra on each side. I am guessing they too wanted to save material cost. As a result, it happened to fit okay with SE2020.

Going to assume iPhone 6/7/8 doesn't curve as much so previously, branded protectors being more generous worked better for those. I did recall having zero issue with iPhone 6S a few years back (the curve part didn't start curving that early), but with SE2020 - definitely feels exactly like Android phones nowadays. I don't know anything about buddee glass one. If you want glass, you will need to do your research.

'Especially with males? You mean just people in general right? This isn't a problem that only males have lol."
Marketing research was done by Apple that indicated men preferred a pocket size Iphone, but one that still incorporated up-to-date technology….this is a big factor in why it sold so well.

  • if this thing had a good battery id be all over it, but instead it seems like you may as well get a used iphone8 for ~$400 and save some money.
only real benefits of this are a couple extra years support (assuming you are gonna keep it for 5 years) and a bit of extra camera processing, if that even makes much difference. i doubt the faster processor is noticeable anywhere else

so id expect the iphone8 to last another 3 years feeling pretty much the same as this thing, kinda seems like better value

    • You need to watch out for used iPhones. Not sure whether Apple still disables peak performance capability by default if it detected the iPhone turned itself off before battery reach 0%. Make sure you check the battery details.

Also, it is interested Apple added 1GB more RAM to iPhone SE, compared to iPhone 8. There is also WiFi 6 (though without 160Mhz channel support, it isn't that great) and slightly better 4G. Camera wise, it is not just better image processing. Better video stabilisation for both front and back cameras. Video resolution quick setting change within camera app (something even iPhone XS does not have - but Apple should allow that).

It is due to weak AUD, we feel iPhone SE 2020 is pricey. If it is $399 AUD (okay $440 AUD including GST), most people won't bother with iPhone 8 used.

  • does this work with Shopback/Cashreward?

    • +2
  • Tempted but think I'll just hang onto my 8, plan runs out in August, I'll look around then.

  • I bought 1 spare 128GB White if anyone missed it, in Melbourne CBD area, else I would be returning it! :)

    • this is very delayed, but did you find a buyer?

      • I returned it just few days ago, would rather pass the saving but no one contacted me
