Child safety lock. Pretty good deal if you're buying bulk. I've purchased this before and it's easy to install and very strong.
My kid started to opening every drawer and door… probably buying more.

Maybe can stack with this $10 off $39 Spend on Eligible Items for First Time App User @ Amazon AU via The Amazon App

  • Any other recommendations to make house baby proof. My little one is starting to stand and grab everything! Plus we have a million doors/drawers/cupboards.

    • Sure, just finished baby proofing ours with the same problem :) Are you handy screwing in latches etc (which will be much stronger and cheaper) or do you prefer easier stick on type (strong but not as strong, easier to fit, costs more)? ALso for your door fittings do you have the grab handle type, knobs, or both?

      • Yep, am handy, however, I’m not to keen on putting additional holes into our cabinets/drawers.

We have stacks of drawers and cabinets, most with normal d pull handles.

        • Some ppl suggest using 3M strips, the ones that hold up picture frames. No holes needed. Haven't tried it myself but might do soon as my toddler likes the expensive goodies inside the entertainment unit 😭

        • @worf: Sorry took a while to get back to you! If you are handy then get these latches, they are are the cheapest and any holes/drilling are all on the inside, unexposed surface. They also come in a 3M adhesive variety here. If you want to go fancy you can get these mag lock ones which come in drillable and adhesive varieties too.

I used the first mentioned latches for kitchen cupboards and drawers, as we had enough clearance between the inside side edge of the drawer and the side wall of the cabinet to install them, but on a chest of drawers in bubs room that space was too narrow so we used these.

We have a under bench oven so used this for the door and this for the knobs.

          For powerpoints we got these.

Hopefully this should get you started with a few ideas. Without knowing your cabinets and dimensions etc impossible to say exactly as some latches/catches may be to long or too wide or too complicated for the space you have. Your best bet is to do what I did and raid a local bunnings by overbuying the various safety devices as you never really know which combos will work best for you and then return what you don't need later thanks to their awesome returns policy.

Good luck and let us know if any other Qs.

          • @ccrap: Oh wow, thanks for the detailed post. The first link for the dream baby latch looks like a neat solution (I.e., doesn’t show on the outside) and maybe the screws won’t matter so much being on the inside. It looks like it’s good for cupboard doors. Would it work for drawers? I could potentially rotate it 90 degrees and mount the latch to the inside face of the drawer front and place the catch on the side of the cabinet carcass… although my drawers are recessed in a bit so that the top and side overhangs a little. Might not be enough clearance to release the latch. Will investigate Bunnings, probs cheaper than baby bunting.

Oven / stove knob protectors!? I hadn’t considered that! FML so many dangerous things!

            • @Worf: Not a prob. Hope it was useful and sorry again for the delayed reply. first link is the one we used the most of for all those reasons - neat, doesn't show on the outside, hard for bub to open, won't leave a mess when we take it out (just tiny internal holes) and lastly (though not a deciding factor) they are the cheapest solution.

Spot on re the drawers, if the internal cabinet clearance allows it and you have enough space on the top part of the internal side of the front door fascia, then just 90 degrees it and away you go. We were able to do this for all kitchen drawers. Where space doesn't allow, use the latches linked in the 2nd paragraph - they are (just a little) bit trickier to install so measure twice drill once if you know what I mean :)

Bunnings should definitely be cheaper than BB unless you get BB to match and beat Bunnings by 5%, and then pay BB using the card network gift cards which can be bought regularly for 10% off (be warned they are a bit tricky to redeem so just set it up before heading to the store if going down this path).

If you have the oven low, it will help to get those - our kiddo is barely one and can turn the oven on so for us it was a must.

Yup plenty of hazards lol. Don't get me started on square edged furniture, we're gonna have to get corner protectors soon to avoid head bumps… sigh never ending but still great :)

My recommendation with these kind of thing is that buy one and see if your kid manage to open them or not.

I made a mistake by buying a bunch only to find out my 18 months can open them with their eyes closed…

  • Is it one piece for $7.99?

  • Does CR class this product as home? It is in SB s exclusions but not listed in CR

"This is the Lock Picking Lawyer and today we have a product designed to outsmart the most devious minds on the planet. Let's see how it stands up to attempts to bypass it."

    • If this was Reddit. I would give you an award.

      But it isn't. So I can't.

  • Ok, it's outsmarted me- how the heck do you open it?

  • I'd suggest these are much better value and likely just as effective. I found they've worked really well stopping my 2 year old.

He was able to outsmart this style (example link) very quickly at 12 months old…

  • 1 for $8 surely too expensive.

Have 2 kids and only used the cheaper version only, may be 4 out them for my TV stand. You will have to monitor their move before 2 years old or get a play pan to keep them inside.

Also I reverse all the drawer hinge so that they cant pull the drawer out.
