Someone's woken up today with a little too much sass.

    • Why? Have you got something valuable to say? Do you have a comment about this deal?

      This is not reddit.

I swear this is a well done troll account

    • Looks like he's about to get more upvotes than 80% of your posted deals shrug

You either didn't look at my posted deals or aren't any good at math

    • are you expecting downvotes?

This posts reminds me of something I saw last night. Nah must have been a dream

Is there much of a quality difference between the Inspiron and Vostro lines?

  • +1

I am looking for a new laptop. What would people recommend between I5 and the lenovo ThinkPad E595 ?

    • Between the particular i5 in this Dell and the Ryzen 5 3500U in the ThinkPad E595?

I'd personally go with the ThinkPad/Ryzen 5, add an extra stick of 8GB RAM (and then use the cashback and price difference to upgrade the wifi card).

  • Inspiron 15 5593 model does not have usb type c port as i know. Inspiron models with discrete graphics card have these ports

    • +1

      5593 does per dell website
Have a look under Ports & Slots, looks like it's data only though, that's annoying.
PD Charging is so handy if you forget your charger.

      • +1

        From the dell website

        Ports & Slots

        1. SD Card Reader | 2. USB 2.0 | 3. Wedge-shaped lock slot | 4. Power | 5. USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (data only) (Only available on configurations with NVIDIA® GeForce® MX230 graphics. Please check the “video card” on your selected configuration) | 6. HDMI | 7. RJ45 | 8. USB 3.1 Gen 1 | 9. USB 3.1 Gen 1 | 10. Headphone & Microphone Combo Jack
        • Umm, yes, oops.
You're right, as you said, discrete graphics..
          Doh! :)

          • +3

@gunslinger: The Inspiron 14 3493 model with same i7 but 8GB RAM does have USB Type C (Display port & Power Delivery) for $1,019.20. Seems better value to me.

Add extra 8GB RAM for $53+

            • @Izzyhop: This is great, does it have room for extra 8GB stick?

              • @TaurusHead: Notebook Check states two slots, one occupied.

Dell Spec states up to two slots, may differ according to region.

Should be safe to assume two slots, upgradable to 16GB (1x16GB or 2x8GB) total.

    • My Inspiron 14 5480 has a Type-C port that supports power delivery.

I'd wait for Ryzen based laptops to be abundant (if they aren't already).

There is no point to get an Intel based system right now.

AMD has the best bang for buck.

    • +10

Maybe, but waiting for the "next big thing" to come in technology is usually a mugs game…

    • +1

It's not even clear if AMD could manufacture at sufficient volume for this to be true (everyone buy a Ryzen device). All reports so far say they cannot.

      • Also, consumer is buying a packaged system (laptop), not just a CPU. No idea if Dell are going to pass on the savings to the consumer just because AMD is best bang for buck.

        • And with this type of laptop no one is looking for performance

    • Maybe you're correct, I got an Inspiron 5575 from Dell outlet recently, pretty sure it's the same as a 5593, but with a Ryzen.

    • Are the Ryzen chips better than Intel chips ?
      Or just better value ?

      • +2

doubtful. some ppl like backing the underdog

      • +2

Depends on the chips that one compares, but Ryzen chips almost always have better value.

Ryzen 2000/3000 series Mobile chips (important to emphasise the Mobile, as they are on different architecture compared to Desktop with the same series numbers) perform very similarly to Intel's i5, but offer vastly superior graphics capability (similar to the level of the previous gen MX940 discrete graphics). However, i7 has higher performance than the Ryzen 2000/3000. Intel's newer chips with Ice Lake architecture which has higher graphics configuration, distinguishable by the "G7" designation, has improved graphics capability to similar levels of the Ryzen 2000/3000 mobile series chips.

Now, Ryzen 4000 series Mobile chips are out, and they blow the Intel chips out of water, on both the CPU and graphics fronts. In fact, the U designated low power Ryzen 4000 mobile series chips can give similar performance of the higher power H designated Intel chips, and in many occasion surpassed them.

      • +1

Ryzen 4000 chips are just better. The low end/Mainstream 4000 chip in the 4500U is decently faster than Intel's highest end Icelake and Comet lake chips, and will probably be faster than Intel's next gen Tigerlake too. Better battery life too, and cheaper. GPU is a wash too, only the highest end Intel chips like this one have decent GPUs and they're still not as fast as AMD ones

When you go up the AMD stack there's some monster chips in there, comparable with some desktop CPUs. The 4800u is actually mind-blowing what it does with 12-25W. But availablity is pretty bad and they sell out pretty much as soon as they go up. If you can find a laptop with one of these I'd jump on it.

3000 chips are decent value, but aren't better than Intel. GPU performance is still better than most Intel chips, and you have to step up to this i7G to get comparable performance, but they're not as efficient especially in light workloads, and they're slightly behind in performance but close enough that other things like thermals make a bigger difference to performance than the CPU chip. The main thing with Ryzen 2/3000 vs Intel is that Ryzen has a better GPU (except the i7G) but worse battery life.

  • Any laptop have a better display like normal IPS monitor ?

  • Does Inspiron 15 5593 have IPS display panel?

  • Hmm new XPS 15 is not listed on eBay

  • Does anyone know how the i5 laptop would be for very light gaming (like League of Legends, Geometry Dash, occasional flash games light)? My current Asus Zenbook (i5 7200U) hasn't been able to handle them at all (can't run osu! fullscreen at >10fps), and although I don't play games often on a laptop, I'd like the possibility to be there.

    • Really the asus zenbook can't handle league? My HP from 4 years ago (i5,8gb ram) has no issues with it

      • Tbh, I've never tried running league - I assumed that, since it can't run osu or Geometry Dash without lagging, it wouldn't be able to run league. I have no idea why, because my previous Lenovo laptop had a Celeron and ran games better than this. I'd say it's likely I'm doing something wrong or the drivers aren't working or something, because it just doesn't make sense.

        • Is this the UX430UA or UX430UQ?

          • @Gazpacho: Neither, this is the UX360UAK - turns out it can run league (albeit at medium low settings, and getting very hot while doing so), and significantly better than it can run osu… Dunno what's up with that lol
Edit: So it's running osu ok now, I no longer have any idea what's happening… Maybe it was thermal throttling last time I tried or smth, and now it's colder??? Sorry for the spam xD

    • I've a lenovo i5. league of legends works fine :)

    • there are games like Half Life 2. i3-7130u handles them well on built in graphics. natural choice for laptop gaming

  • Just a heads up that they can take a long time to deliver. Bought mine during the previous deal on 2nd May, still hasn't arrived.

    • +1

Ordered mine, estimated delivery is 12 -23 June.

  • This Inspiron 14 or the 2020 Acer Swift 3 currently going for $999 at Bing Lee?

  • +2

Very well specced for the price. Was about to pull the trigger on this last week but was weary due to comments here about the display being crap.

Went to Jb Hi Fi to check for myself and indeed the display is shite. Thanks for the warning comments in the previous thread ppl!

All the touchscreen/2-1 laptops have way better looking panels than the non touch so will probs be going for that even though I have no need for the touch.

    • Wow thanks I was considering getting one, which specifically had the poor panel? The 14 3493 or the 15 5593?

      • The 15 5593 was the one I was specifically looking at, though I assume the 14 3493 panel would be of similar quality.

    • So does it use a plain PN panel?
I thought 5000 series should use a better Display panel.

    • I have a confirmation from Dell. They says the 15inch 5593 has an IPS panel with 200 nits.
I think the brightness could be a problem for daylight use, which will affect the contrast ratio.
I decided to keep it ordered as I saw the ips panel used in Dell is acceptable.

  • I ordered one of these 20 days ago and it's still supposedly in shipping.

  • Does anyone know if the tax invoice shows the full price or the discounted price?

  • i3-1005G1 variety is $575.20 if someone wants to cut cost

    1005G1 is a decent 10nm i3 refresh. G1 graphics are nicer than older HD/UHD 620 built in graphics (32 EU's against 24 EU's).

I have a machine built around i3 with UHD 620 and it runs great older games like Half Life 2 just fine. no complaints on performance either.

also, inspiron 3493 is well built.

  • Do you reckon any amazing end of financial year deals coming?
