Wow, ALDI selling Xiaomi/ZMI Power Banks…

    • +1

ZMI QB815/820 all the way, once you go up to 45w , you don't look back.ZMI QB815 is probably the Most value for Money and strongest power bank I have used apart from all others brand that tried.charges my phone and laptop without any issue in the last two years, still going strong.

  • $60 no way.

    • yes way

    • i'm surprised that this QB822 is being sold in Aldi (that's the surprise in itself),
and selling it in June 2020, when i bought this same powerbank from AliExpress
in their 11.11.2019 sales (costing me about ~AU$ 60 anyway).

  • What laptop can you charge with 27W?

    • +1

Older USB-C Laptop, but won't charge efficiently (Drain Faster then it can charge).

      • -2

Well yes, you need to drain it before you can charge it.

    • I can charge two 14" Chromebooks even with 12W ( for one of course, and slowly whilst asleep or off ).

      • +1

Wow. That's pretty neat. Never knew you could trickle charge such devices at such low Wattage.

        • +1

          That's what I thought.

Tested a couple of 10000mAh usb c PD 15W max power banks, one being the $20 Kogan model and to my surprise they charged it ( slowly ).

I have one of those Xiaomi Power strips often posted on here with 3 X USB A outputs, and have a regular micro usb cables as well as a usb a to c cable for charging my phones and power banks. One day I thought to just plug that in to the Chromebook to see what would happen, and to my surprise it also charged it slowly but steadily.

          • @ozhunter68: Shame my little Samsung chromebook has a custom barrel charger.. If it was usb c and did as yours does, it would be perfect.

            • +1

@DirtyBoots: You can buy the correct barrel male plug to usb A/C for various models.

You need to first check to see what Voltage your model laptop/Chromebook takes to charge as well as watt requirement to make this work. Worth looking into.

Can't send link of these products now, but if you search you can find them.

              • +1

@ozhunter68: Yeah wow. Never thought of that.. I might do as the charger has a US plug through to an AU converter and it's really flimsy. Usb c would be much better. Thanks.

      • yep i do my pixelbook at 18W, you can use it as much as you want while charging and the battery will very slowly eek upwards

        • Handy isn't it, and a Pixelbook is nice.

Power Banks with PD, many small handy usb c chargers as well as in car 12V to usb c pd chargers all work nicely.

And that's on an already long lasting battery life,on top of many Chromebooks that are 100% silent too ( for the lower spec models such as Lenovo C330/S330C340/S340, HP 14" and many others).

    • +1

What do you mean what laptop can charge with 27w?

A lot of laptops that accept usb-c pd should be able to

      • Was just in the mindset of my xps needing 45w, my partners mbp needing 65w… Didn't even think that any laptop could run off just 27w (obviously they can as I've learnt).

        • Ive got last years xps 13 and even a 18w pd charger will work. But it only works if the laptop is off.

Ive also found workarounds to get chargers that are qc compatible to work, but im not sure if its a good idea

          • @Butt Scratcher: Can you give us some hints on your workarounds with qc chargers to charge laptops?

  • +1
  • +7

So tempting but I have way too many power banks hahaha

    • +2

      or do you?

    • I have way too many power banks

      No such thing.

Xiaomi Mi Powerbank 3 Pro is far better than the ZMI as it supports SAC, PPS, FCP AND has the 45W usb c in and out, while only being 60g heavier and 12mm larger (total increase from all 3 dimensions vs. zmi). Only benefits of ZMI are it can be used as USBC hub and it has a "percentage indicator" vs 4 dots for Mi Pro 3.

Current prices for Pro 3 seem to be $63 - if you needed one now I'd still go the Mi Pro 3 over the ZMI. I bought in 2019 for $43, it has been as cheap as $39.90 in second week of January 2020 (07/01/2020), though I doubt we will see those prices again for a while now as exchange rates are not favourable, and rising tensions between Australia and the USA vs. China will likely make stock more expensive to obtain for local resellers.

All that being said though, it is nice to see ALDI selling ZMI, hopefully that will extend to Xiaomi in future too. The ALDI exchange policy is great, and having these products available at mainstream retailers will hopefully drive competition - even though the Mi Pro 3 is much better value, the ZMI is probably still much better value than powerbanks the average consumer would find in the ~$60 price range at retailers such as jb/harvey/goodguys ala cygnett, belkin etc.

    • The other good thing with Aldi is, special buy go on clearance after few weeks, so this can be $40 or even $30 if you're not urgent for it.

      • yep but I have noticed it takes them kuch longer to reduce prices on "branded goods" - the sony wc200 headphones as an example - I visited my parents in bundaberg over christmas and the local store they go to between bundy and bargara (not a high traffic store as it is sort of on the highway, not in town), had a good 20 odd sets of the headphones still, many months after they initially went on sale, still at full price. that suggests to me that on branded goods their margin is a lot lower, and it is worthwhile for them to send excess unsold stock back to warehousing vs. heavily discounting it to get it sold. and this isn't an electronics thing, it is a brand thing, as aldis own brand tvs, headphones etc will go on discount if they don't sell.

my guess is this would be a similar situation - they are buying product from a brand/manufacturer, not having product produced/rebranded for them via a direct relationship to a manufacturer.

        • +2

This also depends on which store, how valuable is the space, I found that 3 stores within 5 min from where I live, those 2 in the big shopping center have shorter times go on clearance and bigger discount.

    • This ZMI model Model: QB822 does not work as a USB Hub.

  • +5

This 27W middleway is no good. Eighter get 45W or go with 18W at very low prices.

  • +2

Damn unfortunately this doesn't have 65w USB-C. Any recommendations for a 65w power bank to charge a HP Spectre x360? Thanks!

    • +3

Laptops with usb c charging usually require 27w minimum to charge, so this should still charge it.

Otherwise this powerbank seems pretty great for the price.

Try this one. I got it late last year. Great product. Charges my MacBook Pro 16" while I work on the MBP.

      • +4

Thanks guys! Will check out both of these power banks :)

        • +6

Both those two are great value and good banks, beasts in fact lol.

I have the Kogan one and although a bit big and heavy is great, there is a similar model on their website for Presale @ $79.99 + delivery too.

The ZMI QB823 would be my pick if you can stretch budget a bit ( have the QB815 and love it, especially smaller and better form factor ), and will be my next one to buy.

  • +1

I've never needed a powerbank. It's just me.

    • +5

Lucky you're not everyone,… and everyone is not like you.

      • +1

Probably buys a new phone every year.

        • +1

          Hahha, good point,…..maybe.

  • +4

The QB815 (15,000mAH) does PD 20V 45W just an FYI.
    Charges:
    * Lenovo E485
    * Dell Latitude 5285 tablet
    * Dell Latitude 7300 laptop

  • How did op get the catalogue link for June 3 / 6?

Don't see any link to it on the aldi website under special buys catalogues

  • I'm assuming that this will be able to super fast charge (25W) a Galaxy s20 with no issues?

    • +1

You should post that as a deal.

    • +1

Good find. Better bank for most people, as well as same rice as the QB822 $59.99 delivered too.

And no need to go on day of sale with risk of returning empty handed after sleeping in till 9AM too lol.

      • +1

When I went in the afternoon there was plenty of stock, but now wondering if I should return it and get a different powerbank for the price…

        • +1

As comment below states, leaves warehouse in 2-3 weeks, so if not in hurry and happy to have 12 months Dick Smith/Gearbite warranty then that is a better power bank.

Unless you have absolutely no current/future need for 45W output, and maybe prefer the digital readout and extra/better warranty, this one from Aldi is good too.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: I just wanted to thank you for your reply! I was definitely suffering from some buyer's remorse because I wasn't sure if I was getting a good bang for buck/missing out on something significantly better. I was looking for a powerbank to charge my phone on longer camping trips, so I think the Aldi one is suitable based on your comments. Thank you again for taking the time to reply :)

            • @hullohullo: All considered, this ZMI Aura QB822 sold by Aldi for $59.99 is a great powerbank for a good local bricks and mortar price. ZMI is a company sold by Xiaomi and usually make better quality powerbanks too at higher prices, so that's a plus.

The Kogan battery mentioned above is a much bigger and heavier battery more suited for laptops that need higher watts power etc.

For charging phones and tablets, this will be great and the digital % readout is good to have, as well as 2yrs wrty.
There is also extra headroom if you need to charge a small laptop or chromebook via usb c pd in future, just not really max speed, but will be usable.

    • Leaves warehouse in 2-3 weeks

      Oof

  • Any of these chargers discussed good for an X1 carbon?
