that seems expensive to me, but i’m old as well.
I paid around $40ph for an instructor in Sydney. This is quite recent (2years ago). So $55ph is definitely not a bargain, more like a ripoff.

where are you based? we're in Melbourne? northern suburbs? looks like your based in Sydney? so probably not appropriate.
Funny you should mention the manual driving lessons as that's what she specifically got. think we paid between 40-45 per lesson. (not on special) i only went with this guy because he was a few blocks away from her and he seemed great on the phone, given she is extremely anxious, he was really good, and she was happy with him which was the main thing.

Billy - from memory it was cheaper for us because we got 5x lesson package. also, we used our own car, so its probably like 45 a lesson for using his car, and 40 a lesson with your own car, (don't quote me on that one though)
as i said he was really good though.
