Breville Smart Grinder BCG800 - $169

Hi Guys,
Follow up of a post I made a little while ago about the smart grinder being available for $199 at Good guys.
Just found it online whilst looking for the BES900.

Delivery to me in Brissie would cost $13.

Enjoy

  • Personally, I managed to pick one up last time for $165 with a copy of a receipt from Good Guys.. But this is a good deal for anyone not close to a Good Guys (or not wanting to haggle).

    • i also got one from the good guys, but idk if the $199 (that I haggled down to $170ish) price they had for fathers day sales is still available (i remember the rrp for this grinder was heaps higher).

So this is still a bargain! :D

  • This is an awesome grinder for that price. Its actually an awesome grinder for RRP! I'm very happy with mine and I paid $250

  • I noticed this deal last week and bought on Sunday(+$7 delivery Melbourne).
Was planning to eventually post this deal but was beaten to it.

Package arrived today but no beans so can't try out the grinder yet.

  • I should warn everyone about this grinder; you will find yourself drinking a hell of a lot more coffee all of a sudden…

This thing's first rate, it's a really good piece of design; the shim kit spoken of in other threads is in place so you can wind the grind up so find that my little espresso maker can't pump water through it (that's on the finest setting, I have to wind it back 2-3 levels to work with my basic machine). The other settings for plunger, filter, etc. actually make sense too, they're pretty spot on for those usages.

    Very highly recommended.

    • Agreed. Picked one up last deal. Was skeptical as to how much it would improve my cup on my simple bialetti moka stove pot, but it's a great improvement. I'm at a stage where I can't drink coffee out now… Paid 165 from GG

    • Doh! My fat finger accidentially negg'ed your post Davo-CC, when I wanted to give you a big +.

Damn… as far as I can see there is no way to remove. What's up with that?

      • All good. I +ve'd him for you :)

      • on the top right of the deal, above the pic, there's a 'view' tab and a 'votes' tab. click the 'votes' tab…

  • Great find! been looking for one of these, as i could not get it on DJ's online store(im far away from Melbs…) and its cheaper by $15 ;)

  • +1

So what price did you get on the BES900?

    • Also interested in any great deals on the BES900. Was waiting on the 2nd batch which should resolve some of the gauge issues I am reading about. Seems Billy Guyatts is pretty much the cheapest for the lot……

      • Also, I'm guessing the 2nd batch will see some of the larger stockists discounting as part of the Christmas sales. But yes, vg price from Billy Guyatts as it is.

    • Cheapest I have found on the BES900 is also at Billy Guyatts - $1248 with only $18 delivery to Bris.

  • How does it compare to the Sunbeam EM0480?
It it easy to grind direct into the PF? Any less messy?

What do you think of the LCD? Useful, or makes it look like a cheap gadget from DX?

    • I, too, would like to know the answers to this. I'm currently running an EM0480, but I have to redial it as the coffee level gets lower in the canister to maintain the grind. Plus, yes, it's messy. Maybe I should do the washer trick I read about somewhere (since I currently have it in the very bottom range of fineness, when I am pretty sure it should be closer to the middle…)

    • Hi Manic
LCD is very functional - it switches off automatically after a minute.
Grinding is simple and it's also automatic based on the shot selection - e.g. sit portafiler on cradle, select one shot or two, press start.
      Definitely not a cheap gadget.

For the same spec grinder you'll be looking to jump up to a Rancillo Rocky or similar K3. Otherwords, eats up the sunbeam.

Seriously if you're like me and want to do the research on it - head over to coffeesnobs.com.au and they have a ton of info on it and comparisons in their Grinders forum.

  • anyone know if i can actually bring this into anywhere for a price match?

    • Good luck, a lot of places don't like to price match online stores, that's my experience. Let us know if you have any luck.

      • hmmm.. would try if i had heaps of time on my hands but i don't.. :(

is this a permanent deal or is there a deadline?

        • +1

I wouldn't wait around. This grinder was priced at $198 just over a week ago.
The price seems to fluctuate at Billy Guyatts. For example I was keeping my eye out on a vacuum cleaner that jumped from $389 to $450. It has now dropped down to $425. I'm waiting for it to move down again before purchasing.

edit: I would think the price goes up when the stock goes down. Get in now while they have plenty of stock.

  • all over it…read nothing but good things aBOUT this.

  • Good Guys ERINA
I've been following the OZBargain deals for awhile and my mate also got one for $170 a few weeks ago using the Castle Hill scanned docket for $165 (i think)
….anyway, after this one was posted i finally took the plunge.
Went to GG in Erina (central coast)….it was ticketed as $199 which was going to make it a little easier too as i thought it had gone much higher after the fathers Day sale.
Mentioned $170 online, and my friends deal…he replied saying he new all about the Castle Hill one and that it wasn't valid as the name/address was blanked out, but was still happy to do $170.
In and out in 5 minutes.
    Happy Camper :)
