  • NFC? B28?

    • Conflicting information on NFC - apparently India version doesn't and global does? However ppl that bought it have stated it doesn't. So i can't confirm sorry.

B28 however is listed on GSM arena as one of the supported 4G bands.

      • the website states its a International version :'(

  • Does it have NFC?

    • Yes - The Redmi Note 9S comes with Near Field Communications (NFC) functionality for transferring content with other NFC-enabled devices.

      • What about Google pay?

        • I take it back; more websites says no NFC…Can someone clarify?

GPay: Appears to be available and working

      • Sure about that?

It's market dependant from what I've seen……and it's not clear to me which markets have nfc.

        Gotta source?

Edit: Just saw your follow up post.

        • +2

There's no mention of nfc on the toby deals site, thus we should assume this model doesn't.

Some of the specs belonging to the 4gb 9s version mention nfc.

          • +1

@ash2000: I'm assuming it's a similar situation to the Note 7 where only one variation of the device had NFC…..and it was impossible to find when I was looking for one.

Hoping someone here gets lucky and by chance, identifies a seller with the NFC model.

            • @sir_bazz: Not worth the risk if you need nfc.

A shame, great specs for a budget phone.

    • No NFC on Redmi Note 9 and 9S

      https://www.mi.com/global/redmi-note-9s/specs

  • Is this CPU better than TCL Plex? Seem newer.

    How about b28?

    No NFC

I take it back; more websites say no NFC…Can someone clarify?

not for people must have nfc. otherwise not too bad. however the seller is not that promising according to reviews. depend on you luck

Toby has warnings all over Google as "FRAUD", not sure if that was true - So a few days ago picked up from Dicksmith online for $351 include delivery (Green) for the Mrs.

    • +1

If you are prepared to wait, I’ve had no issues with Tobydeals. Bought a few things over time. But some orders showing in stock have taken over a month to arrive; might be worse now given current Covid situation.

      • Dicksmith online is just a platform(Marketplace). The seller is located in HK. There are numner of new phones coming from xioami soon so keep your cash folks!

Don't rush to buy anything just because it's a few dollars cheaper here or there especially now!!!

    • NFC on the version sold by Dick Smith?

    • Just sharing my experience, I ordered the same phone from DH Gate two weeks ago and still waiting for them to post. Have sent 50 messages back and forth, they're still trying to figure out the address - spelling mistakes when they enter address in their system etc. such a pain.

Ordered a Redmi Note 8 from Toby deals a few days after that and I got it an hour ago today. So less than 2 weeks was very quick. I know other people have different experience but yeah I'll order from them again.

  • How's the battery life IRL?

    • +2

With a 5020mah battery and Snapdragon 720G(8nm)SoC you should easily around 2 days on medium use. Don't have one inrl so cant confirm sorry.

  • I wonder if it is actually that much more expensive to include NFC across all regions?

Also not a fan of the confusing version names.

    • They could at least give it a different letter in the name so it doesn't get messed up.

      • +3

        I think they do -
the note 8 didnt have nfc
        the note 8T did
the note 8 pro also did

        note 9S = no
        note 9 = no
        note 9 pro = yes

what we are waiting for is a note 9T that has nfc

the reason why nfc isnt included is that china doesnt use it for payment.
If people really want it the cheapest way to fix that is to get a mi band 4 that has NFC in the watch.

        • I should have replied to your message actually. The one to look out for is the Remdi Note 9 Pro, non-India version. That one has all the bangs and whistles we all want.

          • @BadGiraffe: The phone linked in this deal is labelled as 'International Version'. As there is no mention of Global Indian or otherwise in the description, I guess we're out of luck with further info. Toby is not responding to any support requests in recent times :(

            • @smokenmirraz: I'd wait for the Pro version. This was only announced last week or something. gsmarena have the details of both the Pros so you can compare the 9S with them. This is going to make it slightly difficult to buy the phone we want. Who can you trust?

Honestly… they should fire their marketing people.

              • @BadGiraffe: Too late for me… I ordered the phone on 3/5 from Toby 😜 While nfc might have been nice, as I don’t use it now, it’s not a deal breaker.

        • Just FYI, mi band 4 doesn't support payments outside of China. It doesn't support Google Pay at all.

      • They decided to outdo themselves here. There are 2 Redmi Note 9 Pros. One is the Indian version, one is the global version of the Indian Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. It's all very confusing. The one to look out for is the Redmi Note 9 Pro global version.

  • +1

Just another warning for customer service issues with Toby. I ordered this same phone on 3/5 and haven't haven't heard anything apart from the initial order is procesesing message. Please see the tobydeals thread on whirlpool for further info.

I was about to buy Xiaomi, but what sucks is that they don't have earphones included…

    • +8

Why do you even care about included earphones? They are usually shit, so better get some decent after market IEMs.

      • +5

I have a draw full of cheap headphones that come with phones and tablets. The cheap ones ät this point are almost a burden.

      • I didn't know IEMs existed, but it's called being on a budget. I don't like the earbuds on them, I also have Tinnitus so not even sure if they are safe for my ears?

        • Do you already own headphones that you like?

If so, then buy a phone like this, (with its 3.5mm headphone jack), and continue to use your known good set of headphones.

          • @sir_bazz: yea, I already bought a $200 Phone from Amazon. I bought it cheap because I bought a DSLR camera.

  • +1

if the item is actually in stock TobyDeals delivery times are great
BUT thats where the problem lies. They will always list the item is in stock. One order i waited for over a month but there was another order i made last year and i got the phone in around 10days i think

    • You're delusional if you think you're not being tracked or your data is safe with a non Chinese phone in this digital age. Remember wiki leaks or Snowden?

  • Anyone have their phone shipped yet? It's been at least 4 business days since purchase and I haven't received an update.

    • any update now?

  • My phone arrived today… I ordered a little bit earlier than this thread on 3/5 and missed the slightly lower price.
