Given the Covid19 lock downs bikes have been selling like crazy. I found these last night in my research and they seem very, very cheap. Anaconda sells a model for $1000. I've no idea about quality, however I assume it'll be Target/Kmart/Anaconda quality. I couldn't find any reviews of these bikes online however note that the "Cyclamatic CX" is another ebike that is sold in the UK which I'm assuming is comparable in quality and features. You'll find reviews of that here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyclamatic-Electric-Mountain-Lithiu…

Whilst I have no experience with these bikes, for most I would think the 'low' cost of entry, free delivery may be a good way to test out a basic bike to see if it fits your lifestyle and exercise needs before shelling out thousands on a brand name model. If it doesn't work out there's always Gumtree or a donation to older parents to get them back outside with you.

Anyway, please share if you have any "actual" experience with these bikes to help the OzBargain community in their purchase decision.

Link is not working and I don’t believe 350w is legal in Australia.

    • link works for me, can you re-confirm?

I've no direct knowledge about the rules around power ratings in Australia however this website advises it's legal to have a >250w motor but it must be speed limited https://blindfreddyebikes.com.au/pages/legalities-of-e-bike-…

It won't stop all the couriers in Box Hill from riding these on the footpaths…

          • @jv: Sorry, it should be illegal.

            refer to the link:https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/roads/safety-rules/standards/vsi-27-mopeds-power-assisted-pedal-cycles.pdf

      • however this website advises it's legal

Is "blind freddy ebikes" an authority on Australian Law ?

        • I'm finding this discussion really informative as I see so many thousand dollar eBikes sold in proper bike shops and look super powerful. So anything with any grunt or power to climb hills requires them to be registered as Mopeds?

          • +1

@Vietsoldier: Ok ill make it nice and simple for you.

200W for purely electrical driven systems and cannot go over 25kph

250W are 'ped-elecs' and cannot electrically assist over 25kph

Anything higher is not legally allowed on the roads without registration, and must be used as mountain bikes, and other off-the-trail runs.

@ATangk: I am keen on an ebike at the right price. I hope Aldi sells these again as I'm not prepared to pay $1300 to buy directly from Cell. Refer to the review here https://www.smarthouse.com.au/review-cell-ultimo-e1-0-classi…

And this Aldi deal for $799 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/509906

Cell as I understand is an Australian company and fully compliant with local laws for an ebike.

              • @Vietsoldier: ATangK’s comment about legality is good and needs more upvotes.

Also however trust me AusPol have better things to do than check out your electric bike which will still be quite a bit slower than a carbon fibre road bicycle, so buy the best specs you can afford. Unlocking the controllers is also a good idea 👍

The specs on this bike are good, however the comment below would suggest some issues with seller, so be wary.

                • @smileyface: Why are people considering 25Km/h not enough?
Just asking, not really a biker…

    • Queensland max is 200 watts, or 250 watts if the bike is a pedelec, which I'm taking on faith this thing is (it doesn't appear to be mentioned anywhere).

  • What is the difference between the Women's and the Men's one other than the colour?

    • my best bet would be something about the seat….

      one dollar?
      the cross bar sits lower

      • the cross bar sits lower

no it doesn't. look at the links. it's the same.

        • True, but the dollar stands - I think

NSW rider beware this bike is legal to ride on public road.

    https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/roads/safety-rules/stan…

ALso, 25Kg is also needed to notice, it is very heavy.

    • this bike is legal to ride on public road.

      I doubt it…

    • This is why folding bikes are so much better. You can fold them and roll them if you're taking the train somewhere.

      • I've seen a few train stations in Melbourne that have bike lock up sheds.

I was also under the impression that most fold up bikes are crap… At least in this price range they are likely to be.

        • I got a 20" Kogan one for $100 a while back. Incredible value for price and easy enough for a 5km ride.

          • @JD9151: Ah ok, I was confused I thought you were talking folding ebike

            • @TEER3X: I'm looking at a folding 26" Ebike. Dyson's folding ebikes have very good reviews or I might go down the slightly risky Aliexpress path.

  • Seems like a reasonably good price. I recently bought a traditional looking ebike from gum tree for $450. The battery ended up being rooted so thats another $300. So not far off this price but for a good looking new bike

  • Are the batteries replaceable?
Any estimation of how long the batteries will last before replacement is require?

    • Are the batteries replaceable?

well they are removable, so i guess you can put back a different one.

Any estimation of how long the batteries will last before replacement is require?

typically depends on how many times you charge them.

not legal on australian roads, or public areas in australia

Trust me you do not want to buy ANYTHING from this seller. They sell you stock they don't actually have then they'll tell you wait another 2 weeks and then another 2 weeks and when you ask for a refund they'll do whatever they can to avoid it. Not to mention when I bought mine in the description stated that it was road legal on Aussie roads which I soon found out it isn't legal in any state. Neocycles and Valk are two road legal ebike brands you can get online for similar prices and 1000 times better than this.
Trust me do not buy from this company!

    • Do you have neocycles or valk? do they move without having to pedal at all ?

  • -2

You risk being run down by speeding electric bicycles now on pedestrian walkways of footpaths…..many don't have the legally required bell or light,or if they do they don't use them, and as this practice has become a civil disobedience the Police are ignoring the problem.

    • +1

You know you can be run down by a normal peddle powered push bike going at 40km/h in footpaths as well right? Normal push bikes can reach these speeds that can injury people as much as e-bikes. It is realistically whether or not the rider is an idiot or not.

  • do they move without having to pedal ? (not sure what the term is called)

    • Lazy…. Sorry couldn't resist it
