How does FFalcon compare to LG and Samsung ?

What does the first F stand for ?

    • +1

      Frugal

    • +1

FFalcon Technology Holdings Limited, is a subsidiary of TCL. Its their budget line.

    • +7

The first F spend stands for FFalcon in a never ending recursion.

      Value.

miss typed but they too lazy to fixed it

    • F**k

  • chromecast buitin ???

    • nope :(

  • Would this work good for a 4K desktop PC monitor. 4:4:4 Chroma with clear text. I believe this TV is a TCL 4 series?

    • Yes they're made by TCL, their budget subsidiary. If TCL was Lexus, FFalcon would be Toyota.

      • +14

If TCL was Holden, FFalcon would be daiwoo.

        • +3

If TCL was vegimite falcon is promite.

      • +1

Toyota's are known for reliability. Hope FFalcon is too

      • +5

I would have gone with If TCL were Qantas, FFalcon would be Jetstar.

The planes still get you there, but it may not be on time, your bags may be elsewhere, and its missing a lot of the creature comforts.

    • Wondering same.

Doubt it's 4:4:4 chroma and suspect 50Hz will leave it wanting for this use.

Anyone tried this TV connected to a PC?

Should read "spoil your mum's opinion of you.." if buying this TV for mum

Looking at them side by side at JB with other 50 inch televisions, it’s picture is OK but ordinary compared with the rest. It didn’t help it was next to the Sony, which seemed the best picture but three times this price.
I ended up paying $547 for the hi sense r7 from videopro eBay about six weeks ago.

I wonder how it stacks up to the ALDI Philips 50 inch on sale next week for $399

    • Also saw it yesterday next to a Sony. Colours are very different, the Sony looked nicer. But then I noticed the Samsung as well, and the FFalcon and Samsung colours were similar. I'd say the Sony was on a different setting. Hard to judge at first glance which will be a better TV.

    • +3

i think that was strategically placed next to the best picture processing on the market to show you how shit the picture is and get you to spend more to buy the sony?

    • +1

      Sigh
Isn't it known by now not to judge things off the display in store? Sony could've had a dedicated video feed, this one was shared among 10 others, and the video settings could've been changed.

      • Well, no, all screens were being fed the same content when I saw the TVs. TBH, the Ffalcon was surprisingly good for the few minutes I was watching it. The colour production, brightness was very impressive. It might be less stellar with darker scenes or different content. The picture was definitely not 'shit'. I love Sony too by the way and have mainly owned Sony's. I like the neutral/natural colour reproduction of the Sonys

        • Highly unlikely they had the same settings. Settings change everything.

    • Also keen to see what people think of this vs the Aldi philips deal.

Perfect! Been on the lookout for something cheap 4k solution for my digital dashboard project

im interested in the tcl p8s 65" for 817 dollars @tgg but it needs a tgg commerical account that i cant be bothered chasing up since i am not a union member or suncorp account holder.

    • +1

Most of the time you can go in store and bargain it down to commercial price or even lower.

      • you mean at the good guys? is it a hit and miss?

        • Yes at the Good Guys, see this comment for context, I haven't done it personally but yeah, probably depends on the salesman you get.

    From a recent Whirlpool post:

"The Ffalcon 50" is chroma 4:4:4 if you are after a cheap screen, I asked there Technical Support and the stated that it was.
I have not bothered going any further with it but would be interested in your opinion if you go that way"

It would be nice to hear from someone who is actually using it with a PC though.

  • I have a 40' Pendo TV from ages ago. Inherited from my parents who used it at their shop. I've used it as my primary TV for about 5 years now and it does its job. But at 40', it's starting to feel small especially since I've recently moved to a bigger apartment and I'm well overdue for an upgrade. I've thought about getting a new TV for a while now but the damn thing just won't die so I've held off. But a good 65' 4k TV is getting to the point where they are decent quality for around $600-700 and an upgrade is worth just chucking away or giving it away for free.

The question I have is whether to get a budget 65" FFalcon/Hisense/TCL since it's likely to meet most of my needs anyway (netflix, casual gaming) or spend roughly double that for a 55' Hisense OLED?

    • +1

But at 40', it's starting to feel small

Forty feet looks small??! I assume by "apartment", you mean stadium. Is that Etihad stadium? I guess if you compare to newer ones, it is time for an upgrade.

Anyone have this as their tv for their console (ps4pro or xbox one x)? Im trying to find a review online but I cant find any

  • Wonder if it's good enough to do 4 virtual split screen on this.

  • i watched a youtube review of a bloke from aus review this unit recently,

he added this in the comments:

would have LIKED to give it 5 stars, but settled on 4 (Reasons mentioned there). No spots really - There is like a white 'data stream' thing on certain TV stations right at the very top, but not all, otherwise no. Motion - That's really what stopped me from giving it 5 stars: Does NOT compare in smoothness with my now defunct 50" Plasma, which I refer to in the previous video; whether it was because the Panasonic had 'Intelligent frame creation' and this Ffalcon doesn't, I don't know - OR, it could just be a classic case of 'You get what you pay for'. Obviously the quality won't be the same for a <$600 (dropped by $100 from $695 a few days after I bought it, so I got $100 refunded, as consumer law takes Precedence over all warranties!) compared to a $2500+ unit, and then, judging by the negative feedback in among the positives in reviews; We are looking at a mass produced device, with what I suspect isn't the best quality control for consistency, so it's like the luck of the draw if you get a bad or good (or simply 'ok') one. My biggest bugbear IS that there's usually (not always) noticeable chunky pixelation in things - NOT that often in TV mode, although sometimes, but most often when watching YouTube videos…i.e., everything was smooth and flowing naturally on the old Panasonic, whereas you DO fairly often notice what you describe, which really pisses me off! MOSTLY on Netflix, the picture is very good, but occasionally, you can notice anomalies like the scan rate isn't up to par, even though the refresh rate is 50Hz (as was my Panasonic), yet NEVER had any such issues with it. Having said that; a movie I watched on Netflix last night was ABSOLUTELY APPAULING! - Looked like a chunky old video that was shot at 360 or 480 resolution! NOW: I'm reserving SOME judgement still on anything coming via the net, when Google and Netflix I believe, has temporally narrowed their bandwidth to allegedly, deliver a more constant stream to a hell of a lot more users during this pandemic, so it MAY improve once it's all over (I BLOODY HOPE!!), but when I watch one of my favourite vloggers at the beach, and see waves not smoothly rolling in AS THEY SHOULD, and instead, look like a series of still images one after another…Well; if the damned thing wasn't so HUGE, or I had a ute, I'd be VERY tempted to take it back and TRY another one! (Although I SUSPECT all of them would be very very similar! Oh, and yes; as per every other review: the remote is completely (profanity) up! It WORKS, but there can literally be SECONDS before the TV reacts, with volume or whichever, AFTER you press the buttons! Doesn't OVERLY worry me, and if all else was perfect, It'd worry me even less; but - it's not. So at best, I say "it's ok" (bearing in mind the very low cost for a huge TV)…And don't even get me started on the sound! Take me DAYS of stuffing around to TRY to get it to play through my old surround system, until finally I bought an optical SPDIF cable, then it worked for 2 weeks, but just the other day, no longer worked; which I THINK, seems to be the never before used input on my amp that may have stopped working, but it works fine by other input methods such as HDMI, which this Ffalcon can't output to.

    • +1

lot of gripes for 4 stars

      • he did mention he would return it if he had a ute,
i think the way he rated was he outlined all the issues regardless of price,
than he mentions the very cheap price at which point he gives it 4 stars,
his standards were higher and therefore he would have been better off spending a bit more for something nicer

I got mine today set it up wall mounted using it with a Nintendo switch , for the price I'm happy and for the image quality I'm amazed ! Go pay more if you want to but I'm happy 😊

    • How thick is it on the wall after you mounted it. Looking for a cheaper screen like this for the study/multipurpose room, but don’t want it to feel to chunky when mounted, it’s not a big space.

      • its thicc asf

        • I've got mine mounted on a swivel mount that yes sticks out anyway so it doesn't bother me.. interesting the sticker on the tv says super slim! It's slim at the top but then bigger at the bottom, also the mounts are located at the bottom of the rear not so much the center

          • @Gomo: hardly slim at the top lol, the top slimness is as thick as most currnt tvs bottom part

  • Can this TV be a wireless display using Windows 10?
