    Where's the bargain?

    • +1

It's about $4/500 cheaper than anywhere else period

      • +8

people are really giving you the shits for this entire thread, seriously, props to you for keeping it together in these times and hope it works out, so what if youre trying out different business over the years, everyone starts off different and youre making it a good amount cheaper than the online ones as well, again dont care if its exactly the same personally as long as its cheaper.

    • +1

I doubt you can find anything on Aliexpress with its attendant extra risks with comparable specs for less.

      • +1

No you cant' someone posted an aliexpress item on special (over 30% off) and it still came to be $54 extra.

  • The cheapest "barebone" system with the same processor on eBay is $989, our barebone system is $517.99

"Australian, as in manufactured or ordered?

    • +11

Under the legal definition we are allowed to say it's Australian made because it's been significantly transformed from all it's original parts, unfortunately Australia does not make and ram/processors/hard drives so they had to be imported from overseas but the design and manufacture was in Australia

      • +3

design and manufacture was in Australia

        I call bull !!!

        It looks very similar to
        https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Hystou-cheap-desktop-…

significantly transformed from all it's original parts

Doesn't look too significantly different than the hystou PC.

        • -1

The main board and the port layout are set by whoever created the main board. Assuming manufacturers want to keep a similar NUC layout, there won't be much different between each of the models. While those cases look similar, you can see it would require completely different moulds and has differences in the plastic such as smooth plastic versus a bobbly plastic finish.

          -EDIT-
Hmmm, someone posted a link to an identical looking NUC on AliExpress.

  • +15

PhillipDi.com has designed a number of different personal computers in Australia

Translation : You ordered some generic mini PCs off Taobao.

    • No. We actually input our design's to a housing kit manifacturer, then got the motherboard, processors, ram, ssd etc ourselves, nothing to do with Taobao which I'm not a fan of.

      • +1

So what's the difference with the identical ones on AliExpress?

        • lol

        • +3

We are cheaper I think by far just looking at this one, for example, we are $54.23 cheaper.
It's being sent from AUSTRALIA with customer support and warranty also in Australia.
Your protected under the ACCC and you can easily pay by PaPal

          • +8

            @phillipdi:

We actually input our design's to a housing kit manifacturer

So, the above one you linked to is the same or a different design to your supposed original design?

The fact that you can't even post your own pictures of the products speaks volumes about the originality of the design work

            • +4

@spackbace: LOL, they post aliexpress link which exactly the same as their own design.

    • ouch brutal

  • does it support hackintosh?

    • I haven't tested it for such a purpose, I don't see why it wouldn't but I have never tried this

  • I've been on the lookout for a better mini pc than my Celery powered Vorke. Kind of wanting something with one of the new Ryzens but this conspiracy theory suggests it might be a long wait.

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/AnandTech-editor-reports-that-…

    • That's a great news article thanks for posting! I think it comes down to the motherboard makers they hold allot of sway and I haven't heard of any movement to make AMD ones unfortunately.

    • Personally really like DeskMini A300 - especially having two HDD bays in addition to m.2. pity it seems to command a premium for what it is

      • Yes very true, we only have 1 hdd bay and a m2 slot as well as 2 ram slots, some mini's only have 1 ram slot

        • By no means is this a criticism. Loojs like your lineup is similar to NUCs which have the same # of HDD bays.

    • +2

It still seems like there is a substantial Intel tax being paid on any NUC product. Am looking forward to the first lot of AMD NUCs being twice the performance at half the price.

      • -1

And as half as many vulnerabilities

    • Yep, my mini i5 3470T is getting long in the tooth.

Ryzen 4000 series would be great for NUC's given the better graphics potential vs intel and better prices.

  • +15

It's fine to sell generic stuff but why did you say you designed this?
There are plenty of this model on AliExpress

    • +5

      LOL

    • Thanks for sending that through! I saw them on aliexpress actually, the outside look of the housing kit is quite generic but the internals are very different and reflect what we sourced for the hardware.

      • +6

What part of the internals are different? You mean the RAM and storage? What brands are they?

        • -2

We source them locally from Scorptec, PC Case Gear and MSY depending on what's available

          • +1

@phillipdi: Thanks. I think you would have a lot more luck and less hate if you go for the direction of offering these as something that you can get from AliExpress, but instead your offering is cheaper and has quality branded products as opposed to KingFast and all the lower tier branded prodcts you'd get from Ali.

As opposed to the whole "we designed this, the housing etc." approach which doesn't seem to be true. There are many reps here who have success reselling Chinese products on Amazon/eBay with that approach.

    • +1

Here's a snapshot of a board were working on now which requires specific design changes to the standard stock housing kit
      https://imgur.com/xNdSXvv

      • +3

So that's for a different PC altogether?

  • +1

Is this better value than Intel NUCs?

  • +13

Ah yes, "PhillipDi designed computers". Better known as rebranded AliExpress computers. They even used the exact same pictures.

    • +1

The pictures are different. Aliexpress pictures had “an Australian hand holding the device”. The “Australian” Photos did not.

  • Not a .com.au domain and no ABN listed? Are you actually an Australian company?

  • +1

You probably just need to check the specs on this Laptop…..

    https://phillipdi.com/product/phd-intel-core-i5-7th-gen-13-3…

You have it listed as an i5 but the specs say i7. Just thought I would mention it.

IMHO you are going to struggle when the well known brands can do deals like the one below.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/510431

(With the Shopback Cashback it came down to $620.00)

Out of curiousity, how much does your PHD Laptop in the first link weigh? This is pretty important to most people when buying a 13" laptop, I would imagine!

    • +1

thank you for pointing out the listing error there I really appreciate it.

You are right when it comes down to the mega specials HP might try to do when a new processor generation is about get released but the 10th generation has just been released, your unlikely to find any specials approaching this any time soon

      • +2

After doing some digging I don't think "Intel Core i5 8550u" exists.

In the link "https://phillipdi.com/product/phd-intel-core-i5-7th-gen-13-3-8gb-ddr4-ram-256gb-ssd-hd-ips-laptop/" you also says "intel-core-i5-7th-gen" while listed as suspicious "Intel Core i5 8550u".

        Anyway,

"We are a team of dedicated computer hardware and software enthusiasts who design and build customized PC’s for a plethora of purposes (i.e. office, gaming, home etc) with only high-quality brand new parts."

      • And the weight is??

      • Sorry, really interested in the weight of the 13" laptop linked above. Can you please let us know? @phillipdi
And have you managed to squeeze in a numerical keyboard on the 13" model, or are you just using the same photos from the 15" model? Thanks!

  • How hot does it run?

    • I don't quite know the temperature, it would depend on what your doing ETC but heat isn't a huge issue even when using it allot

  • +1

    Do you really claim?:

"PhillipDi.com has designed a number of different personal computers in Australia and had the various parts, battery's and housing created"

    That case looks very familiar.

  • +3

Honesty, well done. I would of packed up shop after this many Negs.

    GL

  • Can you fix the prices on your website so it says from: x for a minimally specced product instead of a price which you won't be recieving any product for.

    • +1

Thanks for pointing that out, we updated it so you can buy the "barebones" system. Thanks!

  • +3

Mate, I'm not really looking to buy but I went and signed up just to say - nice work and cheers for offering a reasonable deal. Yeah maybe it can be found for a few cents cheaper on some Chinese website, but sheesh - it seems like the community are TEARING SHREDS off you for free. Keep up the good work, don't be disheartened by cheapskates, I'd rather support an Australian business (sole trader?) for about the same price without whinging about it.

    • +3

Thanks, and yea we are $54.23 cheaper than this on on Aliexpress and it's been reduced by 36% off, I haven't seen any cheaper on aliexpress and moreover were 5/6 hundred dollars cheaper than msi/intel

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000903624936.html?mb=nj3oGR…

      • +1

Question is how much cheaper are they on Alibaba? Quantities are a lot cheaper on there.

  • +1

The listing you link to has no information on ports available, except for the photos.
I imagine that the Type-C port is purely USB 3.x, rather than Thunderbolt-3 used in NUCs
    @OP - Is that correct?

    • +1

Great question! Sorry the answer wasn't included! The USB C port is USB 3.1 correct not thunderbolt-3

  • "Great cpu with rubbish graphics. It's able to run E-Sport games at 720p 60-80 fps and 1080p at 40"

  • +4

    Dodge and double dodge

  • Why such an outdated version of Bluetooth?

    • +1

That's what came with the chip which also offers GPS, it was a trade-off, if your looking to buy it and don't care about the GPS or something we can work it out for sure

  • +6

I love OP’s post and comment history. Worth the look into.

    • +4

      LOL
surprising that they keep coming back

    • +1

Posted only twice in 2019, and had a vote average of +2 over the 2 deals…

Bodes well for warranty support hey!

  • 1yr warranty vs NUC 3 yr warranty is where u lost me, gdluck tho..

  • What I don't get is how they can sell for much less than Aliexpress.

If I configure this with 16GB RAM and 500GB NVMe SSD it comes to $772.97 + delivery. Don't know what delivery is.

The same configuration on the identical looking Aliexpress one is $912.25 + GST = $1003.47 with free delivery.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000903624936.html?mb=nj3oGR…

    • +5

Its easy if you don't see AliExpress as a supplier. Can easily go through Alibaba, taobao, factory direct or other suppliers to get everything cheaper.

PC Case Gear and all those others aren't suppliers either. They get it from somewhere 😉

  • A few questions for seller:

Are all the components brand new?

Is there an activated copy of Windows 10 Pro on the MiniPC?

If I get 16GB RAM is that two 8GB sticks? I prefer dual channel.

    • +2

ALL the components are brand new, I'd be happy to throw in the packaging warranty paper and receipts if you like for the parts that we purchased here, there IS an activated copy of windows 10 pro and we do yes 2 sticks of ram for the miniPC's but the laptops are single-channel, your right dual channel is faster

  • What brand and specs are the RAM and SSD?

    • +1

It depends on when we buy them but usually the ram is samsung and the ssd is western digital, kingston or samsung, we purchase them from Australia not from overseas suppliers.

      • Hi, Thanks for letting us know. Can I order a bare-bones system without the RAM or SSD?

        • you absolutely can! I recommend getting your order by this Friday

  • +1

wheres OP? at home crying is where he is at

  • +4

This has to be the biggest OP grilling of all time

    • You weren't here for Roboguy…

      • Oh poor roboguy. He copped it big time.

      • Roboguy deserved it, not sure Phillip does… even if he's Alibabing barebones, adding components and calling it manufacturing.

  • -2

Would rather lenovo m93p instead. Ebay i5 8GB SSD - less than ~175

    • What generation? Wheres the link to support the price?

    • I see this one, 4th gen
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-ThinkCentre-M93p-Tiny-PC-…

      It's not a close comparison.

      • -1

Truth is there is no major upgrades in processor technology. 10 year old i5 is as fast as recent i5. Any difference would be TDP - which would account upto ~$40 per year in energy savings per year - if left running idle 24hours a day.

        Your generation comment is baseless.

        I am running m93p i5 with 1x4K + 1xFHD without skipping a beat.

What comparison would make it close ?

  • +3

So you started in politics, moved to selling phones and now computers. How can we be sure you'll still be doing this in a year to provide support? (not being rude, an honest question).

Also do you have any plans to sell pre-built Linux systems?
