Original Coupon Deal

EDIT 6:50PM: looks like Futu regretted the double stack of discount, and now increased price to 10% off only, so $1781.10.

EDIT 5PM: Thanks to Overbought, it is actually cheaper at Futu Online at $1,692.04 delivered after the eBay Coupon Code. LINK: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/333551052673 . Looking at Futu's revision log, looks like they only reduced its price after I posted the deal (which the seller was Titan Gear instead).

Also, due to general post rules, as the original store was for Titan Gear and if there's a cheaper store, it should be a new post to be posted rather than editing the original one, I'm going to edit it back to Titan Gear. Please visit nocure's post here instead for the cheaper Futu Online link as he has now made a deal post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/535889

GPU wise not as great as the other ASUS TUF laptop recently, but they generally perform within 10-15% margin (RTX 2060 vs GTX 1660 Ti laptop versions; also depends on the actual laptop's thermal solutions too). However the spec especially the CPU is a massive upgrade.

Quite several reviews are out for the Ryzen 4800H's performance (for a few good ones, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyFFCTwG-sI and here for a comparison discussion against intel's current line-up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooz7ozw-lpo), in short, AMD's killing it.

The laptop however does have drawbacks however, the screen's colour gamut is not great, while wouldn't be an issue for gamers, but a bit of a let-down considering the Ryzen 4800H's amazing performance would make it quite a beast for productivity workloads. Fans can get noisy according to reviews/comments, and it can run hot after pro-long CPU/GPU intensive sessions (but it is pretty much a semi-norm for a gaming laptop any way, especially in the budget of <$2000).

The TUF A15 series so far I've seen three sub-models (before further variants), FA506II (with GTX 1650Ti), FA506IU (with GTX 1660 Ti), and FA506IV (with RTX 2060, which I haven't seen availability in Australia yet). I'd advise AGAINST the FA506II model with the GTX 1650Ti, due to ASUS cost-cutting on the thermal solutions of that variant, having only 1.5 heatpipes (1 long and 1 short half-length). While the FA506IU has 2.5 heatpipes (2 long and 1 short half-length).

This deal isn't an amazing deal really, but more of a discussion deal post? At the very least, just so people are aware this model is available and can be better value to other similarly priced gaming laptop, whether intel or older AMD ones.

I wish if I can have this specs on a Macbook or XPS body and screen :-(

    • The Zephyrus G15 design is actually not bad, but not yet available =S

But yea, I agree, it'll be quite a dream for more premium product lines to have the Ryzen 4000 series.

      • Zephyrus G14 and G15 isn't aluminium right?

        • +2

Interesting, just found out that the G15 is plastic construction, but the G14 chasis is of magnesium aluminum alloy.

  • Just FYI this looks like the version that has the smaller battery but area for a 2.5" ssd/hdd

There's also a version double the capacity battery)

    • +1

These 98WH battery versions arn't available in Australia. Atleast not yet. PCCG stated there are new variants due around July

      • I would love to grab a bigger battery one model but i can't find it anywhere. Also europe will not receive bigger better model i think same over here will happen

  • ASUS TUF A15 Laptop (FA506IU-AL130T)

      😂😂😂😂😂

      or ASUS TUF A15 Laptop (FA506IU-AL130T) ?

  • The screen on this is pretty disappointing, but if you're going to use an external monitor it's not a bad deal.

  • normal price for this model is $1,899 or bit less, better wait till there is a better discount

    • Do you think there will be a discount anywhere until next month better than this? As i think only ebay provides discount

      • +2

EOFY sales are the next biggest sales. There will be laptops and all sorts on sale then

        • exactly, with the uncertainty of our economy amid covid19 there would be more and more deals go on later, the only issue is … will we have enough spare cash to shop :)

  • Could be cheaper at Futu Online eBay for $1,781.10

Well, at least I think it's the same model?

    • WOW Great find! It's actually AU $1,692.04 at checkout due to extra 5% off.

      Will update

  • The max i could go is 1500 aud do you think the starting model is good enough for casual gaming can i expect a discount within this month or next? Or any other laptop you would suggest.

    • +2

The starting model is bit harder to recommend due to the cost-cutting/lesser heatsink, so the hardware will thermal throttle easier and run at lower performance for longer term workloads.

Nonetheless, I guess when one is budget limited, then it is limited. The cheapest I can find is $1,403.10 after PILLOW10 code @smarthomestoreau (i.e. it is ShoppingExpress), https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/124177584955 , for Ryzen 5 4600H (6 Cores 12 Threads), 8GB DDR4 3200MHz (comes with 1 stick, so you'll need another stick of 8GB DDR4 3200MHz to not cripple but maximise performance), GTX1650Ti. At $1400 it is actually not a bad deal, especially considering the current market. Although like the comments above, the TUF A15's panel is not that great, so as long as you are prepared…

But yea, if you can wait, then wait.

This model just come out this week, Asus has not release the f15 (with intel 10th gen processor) and also the 17 inch model. I would say wait a few more months until it has complete line up and better sale hopefully. Also you would want a minimal 1660ti.
I’m very keen on the 17 inch model and the the grey colour lid (aluminium), the black one is plastic.

    • +2

The 4600H paired with the GTX 1650Ti should be ok for casual gaming. Looks to be usable in Med to High graphics settings too, according to notebookcheck

  • They shouldn't be providing wifi 5 at this point.

Wifi 6 has a huge stability and D/U speed increase.

  • Anyone knows if Asus AU will release the 90WH battery version of this A15 laptop?
I see in the USA they all have the 90WH battery as standard.
