Note this is a Snapdragon 835 device, despite being released in late 2018.

    • So a 2017 CPU generation?

I can't find the link for the same price on the website, only on ebay

      • For some reason, the 64GB models on the main website show as unavailable

      • +1

Yeah. Same CPU you'll find in the Galaxy S8. It's not a bad CPU by all means, but I could definitely feel a slight different in snappiness when I upgraded to a Tab S6 (although that could've also been the 6GB RAM up from 4GB).

        • The galaxy tab S6, has a Ozbargain price of $700, do you think it's worth the extra $200? I might just wait for a Tab S6 deal

          • +1

@Bubbleshark: Using a S4 to type this. Is pretty good but heavier than the wife's iPad. The S6 is lighter as well.

          • +2

@Bubbleshark: I would wait if you can.
I really love my Tab S4, but at this price I wouldnt get it unless LTE. I got mine (64gb LTE) on a 24 month Optus contract 1.5 years ago for $480 total.
The Tab S6 has a cool looking keyboard with a touchpad.

            • +1

@Cinnamon Crunch: Would not recommend the keyboard, it's kinda bad (kickstand attaches using microsuction adhesive which is a bit questionable)

            • @Cinnamon Crunch: Oh never looked into the keyboard properly. I mostly noticed the trackpad which sometimes i really want.

I have the official s4 keyboard. That works well for most of it. Just viewing angle for movies in bed sucks sometimes.
Trackpad just seems to be my only missing thing about it

          • +3

@Bubbleshark: Tab S6 would recommend. It's the best Android tablet hands down overall. Very good screen, less bezel ratio than iPad Pro, light sleek design with great battery, best performance tablet for price afaik, quad speakers are super loud you don't need a Bluetooth speaker and a pen.

I didn't get it with the keyboard as it was too expensive and it felt a bit small but I use the pen quite a lot for note taking and designs. Also if you connect your own keyboard and mouse you can use it as a laptop.

Snapdragon 855 is killer performance as well, I was on the fence at first but after finding out about the SD chipset I bought it straight away, it runs all high end games on highest settings with no FPS spiking like on the S20 Exynos variants.

Only thing I don't like is the lack of third party accessory support compared to the iPad. Would love a better form factor keyboard that makes this into a laptop because the multitask functionality and Dex mode is way better than iPadOS has to offer. Also no headphone jack is a bit annoying as I like to use it in bed and don't want to loose my buds falling asleep haha.

I think they revamped it and are releasing a 5G version in some markets but I have no clue if a Tab S7 is coming out soon. I would say for $700 it's a bargain, I got my 256gb one for $900~ at the time.

          • +1

@Bubbleshark: Link to the OZB price of $700?

          • +1

@Bubbleshark: Having used both, yes. Many improvements outside specs for quality of life, e.g. better speakers, thinner & lighter, built in place to old the pen etc.

Also, the Tab S6 has a in-display fingerprint scanner which imo is much more usable than the Galaxy S8-era iris scanner on the Tab S4

    • +1

      Least it's not an Exynos

  • +6

I bought and still have the 256GB model. Runs as fast as the day i bought it. Battery life is amazing too. Can not think of of a single negative. 10/10 would recomend, especially at this price.

      • +16

Thankyou for that link sir. However, we are talking about a tablet, not the google nest hub. The internet is confusing sometimes, keep trying :)

        • -3

          wasn't confused about anything

the point is the good guys are known for doing stupid bait and switch tactics and price stuff up..

if want to waste your time buying from them then go ahead

      • lol what

    • +3

Yeah got this a few months ago from Good Guys and they had almost none left around Adelaide and interstate. Surprised there's any in stock now. Obviously better than the S5E and very close to the S6 with a touch better battery life too. Only high end android tablet around for a decent price. If that's what people are after then its a no brainer to get. Quality is amazing. OLED screen really shows the difference. No lag or freezing with anything I've tried on it yet. Awesome product!

      • +1

It really is. We live in a world where 2 generations of products results in only a marginal better product.

        • +3

Its the same with the phones. They keep saying updated CPU and RAM etc. But in real world situations the difference is hardly noticed. I got it for half the price of the S6 when that was released and it's really the same other than a couple features which I won't use. More important that battery life is longer, what a weird thing to do to make the S6 battery smaller!?

      • -4

        What's Adelaide?

    • +1

I really don't like Samsung's devices, but I've also got the 256GB 4G model due only for the fact it's the only tablet with an OLED screen, and boy is she pretty. I did have to get a main logic board replacement at the 13 month old mark though (all data gone, obviously) despite it never leaving my bedroom. Just turned off while I was using it and never came back to life (not even with the charger).

    • Does the 4GB RAM cause any performance issues?

      • +2

@RexLongfellow Not on my Galaxy TAB S4, everything runs buttery smooth, my son plays video games on it and he never complains about performance.

  • This or the s6 lite?

    • What price is the S6 Lite?

    • The Tab S4 is better in almost every way except software support (OLED vs TFT screen, processor, dual audio feature, fingerprint scanner).

Assuming Samsung stick to their usual schedule, the Tab S6 lite will get close to 2 more years of updates than the S4.

    • +1

Super Amoled for this S4 vs TFT on S6 lite

    • +1

The S6 lite has a LCD panel, that alone kills it for me. The big drawback of the S4 is support, it's near the end life of the support and won't get many more update

    • +1

Tab 4 is high end flagship model, tab s6 lite is cheaper entry to S-Pen tablet. Tough one, probably depends on what you want to use it for, S4 is a great price.

  • Cannot see if the s pen is included or not…

    • +4

Yeah the box comes with S-pen.

  • Thanks OP, ordered one and now wait and see….. Still waiting for my refund from last Thursday, the price error with the Echo Show 8.
I prefer not to deal with them but unfortunately, I have no other option as I like the S4 and it's very hard to get.
I'll keep you posted. Too often they sell stuff without stock, it takes ages to deliver or you can't pick-up because of their strange procedures (Paypal ID for a credit card payment).

  • The discount codes above didn’t work for me but PASTA5 worked for an additional $5 off.

    • That $10 voucher needs to be used via an android or ios device ebay app is the message I got. But not sure how you get cashrewards on a phone if using the ebay app.

  • S6 Lite also does not support Dex if that matters.

  • +1

@mrharry Thanks, been waiting for this, I refuse to buy a tablet/phone without 3.5mm jack, I do not want to be forever charging my headphone along with my tablet/phone, and the S6lite without amoled sucks. Might be the last Samsung device I ever buy ;)

  • Thanks OP

  • +2

Great price but just keep in mind that the batteries on these will have some degradation from storage since this is an older model.

Lithium-ion batteries degrade during storage, just the nature of them.

  • I'm using S4 since release. Tablet wise: quality is amazing, almost 2 years still good battery, good speakers too. On the other hand, software sucks, compared to iPad. Apps like Facebook and YouTube which are the main two I use aren't optimised like iOS. Gaming graphics are worse than the first iPad pro.

    • Instagram is also quite pathetic, messenger can be quirky

  • Thanks OP.

  • the 64GB model all gone… :(

  • -2

Got the Tab S3, I'll give this a pass and wait for Tab S6 coming later this year.

    • +2

      That was released last year

      • Sorry, typo. I meant S7 :D.

  • So wanted one…
It's probably a long shot…but does anyone has buyers remorse? Please PM me…

    thanks

    • Did you end up getting a 64GB?

I would have grabbed one too, not sure about dropping $600 on a tablet, even a good oldy like this.

      • nar i wanted to get the 64 GB but missed out… :(

        • Me too, as well as many others I bet lol.

  • This vs iPad deal for $650 ???

    • +3

Basically if you're tech savvy and know how to get the free software go Android, it's more work for you to do but have it exactly the way you need it. Apple is smoother OS and more efficient but limited to what apps and software you can get, plus you have to pay for it.

      • -2

        not really..
most of the apps that are popular is free
and most games are also free or has some In app purchase

the games and apps tends to be more higher quality

I got both systems and see androids has a lot of crap stuff on their store

        • +3

I guess Monstalova was highlighting the fact that on Android you could Side load apks but ok πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

          • -1

@Smokey010: yeah i know about side loading apks
and if you can find those apks somewhere on the net you can get that version of the game or app for free..

            I done it many times..

but I still think most the apps or games you want nowadays are free or just have some IAP (which I have never purchased anyway)
and you can just play without IAP..

I have been android user for a very long time now
and started using an Apple phone more now and I just think the the Apple store overall has more quality apps and games than the google store

You can also sideload Apple stuff as well if you can jailbreak your device.

        • +1

You just perfectly explained my point why you should have an ipad. I'm talking more about hacks and getting software that can run different things that would normally cost money. Such as running Youtube with no ads and background play. Android is open source, the content in the play store isn't even close to a tenth of what is readily available to download.

          • -2

@Whisper Quiet: yeah there are hacks on both systems
if you jailbreak or root it you can find hacks for them both…

If you know where to look you can get them both for free.

Yeah there is other places to get apks which are both free and cost money if you know where to look..
I found that most of the apps or games I want are all on the playstore for free anyway..
except for some items which cost money which then needs to sideload the apk..

I just found the overall quality of stuff on the playstore to be less than the Apple store.
Also if you research it, android has a lot more malware and security compromised apps on their store

I mainly been android phone user for a long time
but ipad user for tablets since Apple tablets are more higher quality or just has some better specs than Android tablets..

Even google tried the go after the tablet market and failed..and they are the best company in terms of money and size that could take on Apple iPads market.
And Google has essentially given up on the tablet market.

So the only likely iPad killers can come from Samsung..since most of the other companies are going for more the lower to mid end tablet market.
But samsung so far has not released a tablets that are has high spec as Apple yet..

            • +2

@pinkybrain: With every comment in this thread you just keep changing your story and trying to fix it so you don't sound wrong. Give up and call it a day. Ipads have nowhere near the software available that android has. Apple updates stop all the allowable hacks which there are only very few of anyway. Sounds like you just googled ipad hacks and gave me your 5 minute research. Most of the world is fooled by Apple when they spend billions on advertising, doesn't make them the best, just the most popular. Rather get a Surface Pro than a ipad if I was going to the highest spec. At least I can have the freedom to use that hardware anyway I want from Windows. Pinky & the brain… Well you got the first half

              • -2

@Whisper Quiet: how am i changing the story?

you need some glasses or more english lessons..

not sure what you going about but are reading something else other than what i wrote

i already know android allows rooting more easier than apple which blocks them with updates
                so what is your point?
I never said apple was easy to hack

no need for insulting comment considering it is coming from someone that can't even read english properly

This not argument about which is better or not better
                each system has their strengths
Just stating what I like about each systems which is an opinion

    • IPad has better pen with no lag when drawing, writing. But hate the OS and apps are expensive.

Loving my S4 better overall but wish it was 4:3…

  • +1

I have had S4 for two years. S4 is great AND has headphone jack which S6 doesnt. Still runs fast and has a great screen. If you can get it for this price, get it now….or wait for S8 to come out maybe.

    • Do you think the S4 will get Android 10 maybe? Got a Samsung Tab S 5E yesterday for my elderly mum even if it was $100 more than the new S6 Lite ( $649 V $549 full price ) because for her the better quad speaker set up and Amoled screen was worth the difference. Really nice tab that is super thin and light, just wish that I got her one for below $500 in Feb.

      • +1

Initially it came with Android Oreo, has Android Pie now so S4 is eligible for Android 10 which is rumored to be around May or later of 2020. Unfortunately, this is the last major OS upgrade for S4.

        • +1

Thanks. Yeah, thought so much. Do you think it will slow it down, stay same or even speed it up a little.

My A20 seemed to have gotten a bit more snappy after the 10 update.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Well tbh when I got this tablet last year, Andorid Pie was already available so I didnt had much experience with Oreo. Lets be hopeful that Andorid 10 is just as great as current OS on S4. Also, I totally love new upgrade on A20 too.

      • +2

I got the software update notification for 10 but haven't put it on yet strange they said it was July but my tablet says it's available now… Not sure if I will, I'll see what other users are doing and if they have any issues with it first. Also I would say the S4 is heavy, especially with the case attached.

        • +1

"Smokey010" Agree with your S4 update expectations.

Haha,…did you get last years Ozbargains favourite budget below $300 smartphone too ( Samsung A20 )?

"Monstalova" Smart move to wait it out for Android 10 update to wait for bugs if any to be ironed out and read up reviews to make sure it has not slowed down too much or maybe even removed wanted old features from Pie.

          • @ozhunter68: Yeah I got A20 from one of the deal posted here. Even though, it isn’t a primary device for me as I have iPhone from work but absolutely love it 😊

            • +1

@Smokey010: Same. Also could not pass up the Target $150 deal last November I think just to check out the hype and see if I can get it unlocked for free lol ( actually got lucky with Voda direct ).

Great value and now even slicker on Android 10, but also not using it as main phone as my rock solid trusty HTC 10 refuses to die haha.

  • +1

Somewhat tempted to grab one, but my 5 y.o samsung galaxy tab s8.4 is still pretty decent. Great screen and passable performance for videos, only problem is the 16gb of storage

    • Wow! Just googled the specs for the 8.4 and still stands up well with a great screen and 3GB ram.

  • If I only had budget of $200-$300, which tablet would I go for? I only need it for web browsing and watching netflix, etc.

    • +1

      google teclast T30

  • +2

Still using my Galaxy Tab 10.5s from a OZB deal 5 years ago. See no reason to change as works fine and really like my Bronze version and the official case. I think one of the nicest Tablets made by anyone. OK………..is getting old now and no more updates which is the main downside. Will just have to live with that rather than splashing an unnecessary $500. If anyone however has any buyers remorse, I can assist i.e. just send it to me :-)

    • More like an unnecessary $599 as the 64gb sold out quickly yesterday.

  • +2

This guy speaks very highly of the Samsung Tab S5e πŸ˜‚

    • True, bit of a funny post but do agree with him.

  • -6

    Get an iPad

  • +1

My only complaint with this is that for drawing the s-pen nibs are not great. After about 6 months my first nib went, then a few months later the replacements. I ended up getting a staedler norris digital (google if interested) and it seems to be a bit better quality, but doesn't fit in the case, so I have removed the pen holder from the offical samsung case.
Logging in is a bit silly, has facial recognition and standard android login, but the facial rec is hit and miss.
Overall the tablet is really good, would recommend as a budget option for anyone looking for tablet with stylus.

    • Thanks for helpful comment, and would prefer this over the new S6 Lite which is actually a little cheaper than this currently for pre-order $549/64gb wifi grey model and also with an included S Pen and also a headphone jack lol.

Just wanted to mention this to people who want to save a bit cheaper and has Android 10 pre-installed with 2 yrs support, but misses out on the nice AKG tuned quad speaker as well as no Amoled screen and less ppi.

  • +2

I'm not a store rep why can't I change the tick box

    • +5

      Congrats on the new role!

  • +1

Dose this one got any newer version? I mean same Samsung Tab S4 not Tab S6.

    • +1

You might want to re-word that question if you want a clear/correct answer to those questions.

Do you mean "does/will this model Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 get another Android OS version ( Android 10 maybe with One Ui2 )?

  • Why would you get this over the base iPad?

    • +2

      Android.

    • +3

Android indeed. iPads are somewhat annoying in their OS methodology but fine for those that like the Apple environment (that know no better).
Played with one (hand down) over last few weeks and not a fan. Nice devices but given the choice find Android environment much more versitile and adaptive across the board for the most part. Not having a go at iPads and only reflecting on comparisons and why this over a base iPad. It's a personal choice.
