What a waste of carbonated water. I'll drink it thanks :P

        Whoops - through*

It does make me fart like a wild boar though, luckily working from home still.

    • Do you remember what model yours is?

      • Sodastream source power

      • I have a dead one of these. The circuit board failed and the LEDs just start blinking. The regular one I have still works great.

    • Have you tried any of the sodastream flavours? If so, recommendations please lol.

      • i havent actually - i just prefer the sparkling water

  • Just buy the cheapest soda stream model, they all do essentially the same stuff. The fancier model isn't going to make your water any more bubbled.

    • I prefer the ease of use of the electric versions.

    • You're right! The higher end ones like the one posted here have a feature where you can just slot it into place instead of having to screw the bottle into the nozzle like the base model.

This means that the seal isn't as tight which means there's more gas escaping which means it might even get your water less bubbled.

The highest end model uses glass which I SUSPECT is probably even worse at carbonating water as it's it's not as flexible as plastic but I idk.

  • Would this include the co2 bottle? Or do you need to buy the separately…thanks

    • Comes with the co2 and a drink bottle

  • What's the noise like on this?

    • it fizzes and puffs a for about 5 seconds?

    • +1

When you press it down, it fizzes and then it makes a farting noise at the end which is just extra pressure. You're supposed to fizz it until it "farts" about 3 times per bottle usually. It's pretty loud tbh and the "farting" is medium pitch and unpleasant. Don't expect to be using it in the middle of the enemy stronghold

  • What is the difference between the various models? Googling doesn't reveal much

    • Other than the way they look and the bottles they can fit, not much really. They all make the same fizzy water. I have a basic one, a fancy one that uses the glass bottles and the Power one. Only one I've ever had fail was the power one. The Leds just blink now and it no longer makes fizzy water. There's also no manual override.

  • I got mine for $100 like 5 years ago, look the same, must be the same model.

  • How long does the gas bottle last?

    • -2

      Not that long….

Unless you go all out like i did and get a kit from Kegland.

6KG of CO2 hooked up should last a few years…

Refill of this is about the price of 3 exchanges of sodastream bottles.

      • Thats a good idea :)

    • 60 liters apparently depending on the level of fizz. I use the lowest level (which is still very fizzy) and I reckon I got about 50 bottles out of it (the bottle holds about 850-900ml/s) that was with the one that came with the purchase, I’m gunna get a refill at Coles express tonight - see if that one lasts a little longer.

      • Isn't it cheaper to get the Aldi soda bottle 1.25L for $0.85, you can get 101 bottles for same price unless you go @theonewithin route?

        • +4

Dunno havent really done the maths - the refill for Co2 is $18. I have nowhere to store 50 bottles of soda water though, and i dont want to be lugging that back from the shops, nor do i live near an aldi. I also dont really want to be churning through plastic bottles at that rate.

One of the appeal of these besides the environmental benefits is that it's good for events like camping where instead of bringing all the soda water, you can just make it at the destination instead.

If you receive a unit as a gift it's about ~ 30cL for Soda using refills from Coles\Woolworths even SodaKing from Spotlight (when they have sales)
Can't speak for others, but we use it for convenience and was great during lock-down not having to lug a-lot of bottles.
We don't drink traditional soda, but lots of sparkling water, if we add flavour it's usually a lemon or ice cube (from when they were in season), or Schweppes premium cordials. The soda stream syrups are quite expensive, and have to be very week to get anywhere near their claimed literage.
          Tastes are different.
Also don't need to re-cycle so many bottles.

Has been an absolute blessing during Lockdown
