Save your self money in the long run gat a Phillips xxl will last a lifetime

    • I have to agree, we have this air fryer and while it works, it's not designed to last.
The nut came off the fan, which had to be tightened. The handle has developed cracks, don't shake the unit if you have fries in it!
Don't get me wrong it works, but it's just not going to last.

      • I use mine every second day and it’s 4 years old going well

      • +1

i have the smaller, cheaper version and its a few years old going fine

    • +2

Nah if you are a true ozbargainer you would do research and see that the Phillips one has fewer "features" and are overpriced for that they are.
We got an aldi one many years ago when they first launched and its still working as well as the day i go it.
My sister on the other hand has returned her Phillips one twice for warranty repairs.

    • +1

rubbish, I've had my 3.5L one now for 3 years, and before that a 2L one for 2 years before (that got passed on to a family member) so that's going string for 5 years. Just make sure you buy a dumb cheap one with two dials for high and time, so there are no electronics to fail.

      • With the timer dial does it make its way back to zero as the time elapses so you can see how long it has left to cook?

        • +3

Isn't that how all countdown timers work?

  • +3

Anyone airfry a steak before? How does it compare?

    • +1

Not beef, but lamb chops turn out spectacular - super moist and delicious.

      • cheers, I checked YouTube clips For steaks, and some said it turned out fine actually but when I asked the butcher she was very sceptical lol

    • +1

We do steak in ours every week.
      Comes out amazing :P

      • Thanks, this is good news

  • +1

I’ve got the Philips XXL one but I’ve heard these are just as good, when you consider the price.

We use ours all the time….Pretty healthy chips, chicken, fish, cakes, etc. By the time our main oven is up to temperature, the air fryer has cooked it.

    • +5

I’ve got the Philips XXL one

After a few months of frying, you'll need 4XL….

      • Well, that’s the reason why we have it. It’s not actually frying, it’s roasting or baking. Chips use 5ml of oil per basket and they’re as good as fried, and healthier than a jacket potato filled with a knob of butter and cheese.

        Best kitchen appliance we’ve bought.

  • That photo is doing it wrong. I thought you are not supposed to pile your chips all the way up that high.

    • -6

it shouldn't matter because the air is circulated.

      • +3

        not your best work JV

        • -5

          it's a fact though…

you don't even need to turn the chips using an air fryer.

          • +1

@jv: not if you pack them tight like shown in the picture… I cook two layers of chips at most and have to make sure they are stacked staggered, and give the basket a shake every 3 minutes

          • @jv: Manuals recommend that you shake at-least once half-way for even cooking!

      • Thank you Captain Obvious. I know it is like a convection oven and I own the Kmart Anko 5.3L.
The FACT is we are not suppose to stack too many layers of food, that will hinder the hot air circulation.

  • I have a small Kogan one and love it!. It is probably half the size of this. Has anyone used this one https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/bigdiscount-super-chef-oven-con…

I am thinking of upgrading, for much bigger than what I have.

    • I have a small Kogan one

      Too much information !!!!!

      • +1

        lol

    • +1

Yes Fozzie, i have that 17L one. I find it rather awkward to use and it radiates/wastes a lot of heat.

      • Thanks, maybe I should just get this Aldi one

  • How Do Dim Sims go in these? This is the dealbreaker for me.

    • +3

How Do Dim Sims go in these?

you put them in the basket, just like the chips.

    • they'd be fine

    • +2

Not that great. The dim sims won't be crisp like they would if they were deep fried. The pastry turns out sorta chewy. I'm sticking to steaming dim sims from now on.

    • Fine for me for those that just need reheating

    • +1

we do ours in an Aldi one, come out crisp the trick is (if you read the book it tells you btw) to put a very small amount of oil (like 1 or 2 drops) on each dim sim.
They come out as good if not better than deep frying.

      • +3

        ….or use spray oil?

        • Coles and Woolworths sell an oil sprayer in the utensils section. Goes on half price every other week. Nice thing is you out in say chilli garlic infused olive oil instead of some generic canola oil in a can.

          • @BlinkyBill: ARe they any good? I got a couple recommended here years ago - I used 1 for oil and 1 for vinegar, and they were both great…for a little while… then stopped working and I could never fix despite all the soaking in hot water to unclog.

If there is a product that actually works I would really love to get some.

  • +1

Why does it sound like I am the only one who dislikes using this due to cleaning it afterwards? I have no problem with it as an appliance to cook but I've always preferred to use the oven as it is a lot easier to clean the baking tray.

    • I place the food on a metal rack/stand under a plate or bowl. Sometimes I cover the bowl in baking paper too. I'm super lazy.

    • +1

hahaha I am the same. Often it sits in my sink for 24hrs before I can be bothered cleaning it. The actual air fryer then sits on a bench for a further 3 days before I can be assed putting it away.

    • I assume cos of the air holes and air circulation it needs to cook properly you can't put foil down in the tray before you cook?

      • You can, but there should be an air gap between the food and the foil.

    • We line the tray with alu foil each time. Saves on cleanup.

    • Yep definitely the worst part about air fryers is cleaning them. I think the new phillips one's are better in that regard as they fully come apart and you can throw them in the dishwasher.

    • +1

Damn, I have used fews Philips XXL for about 4-5 years now, cook at least 2 times daily, and only dry clean it forth nightly with paper towel, and maybe wash it properly every month or 2. Now and then when there’s too much oil and crumbs on the bottom, I just pour it in the bin. Been 4-5 years like that, the whole family of 6 never got any stomach issues due to Airfryer not being cleaned regularly despite the fact that it is used at least twice daily.

  • A psychopathic cannibal?

  • I'd be careful of any air-fryer in this style (metal cooking basket attached to plastic handle). I had a similar one (Healthy Choice brand) that softened the handle after only two uses so that the hot basket drooped down and burned my fingers.

    • That should be recalled.

  • This looks exactly like the Kmart one I got for $69 ages ago. It was awful. I'm not a fan of air fryers which don't have rails. I find if you do put chips in like in the photo, they don't cook evenly, the ones in the center won't cook at all.

I recently got https://www.amazon.com.au/Litre-Digital-Fryer-Carry-Handle/d… for around $150, much much better for not that much more $, which looks the same as the MasterChef Air Fryer being advertised for $350.

i did atlantic salmon in the air fryer last week…it was ah-maz-ing !!!!!

    seriously good.

roast chicken - if you buy the supermarket roast chook, pull it apart and air fry it for 10 min, its next level.
home made KFC - yum. make sure you use fine breadcrums not flour as theres no oil to cook the flour (or spray with a bit of oil )

frozen dim sims, dumplings, chips….just do it !

need to try a steak. havent thought of that one
(i have the kmart 5L - use it heaps)

    • Agree on the homemade KFC - surprisingly tasty and healthy to boot.

    • i did atlantic salmon in the air fryer last week…it was ah-maz-ing !!!!!

Try Tasmanian salmon, it is even better…

      • Tasmanian is Atlantic Salmon.

        • Only if they are lost.

    • Raw or smoked salmon?

      • lol

Has anyone tried the $129 Kmart air fryer that looks like a bench oven? Apparently it doubles as a dehydrator as well. It has shelves. I’m very intrigued by it but have both and air fryer and a couple of dehydrators.

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/3-in-1-air-fryer-oven/27548…

    • That actually looks really good, and the dehydrate function would come in handy. Would be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried it?

      • 5 stars reviews too

    • Of this type, I've seen reviews noting the rotisserie motor is prone to failure.
I really want this type but that one issue is holding me back.

  • It's the same thing as having a convection oven.

  • Get this ebook first and then get the airfryer…

  • I've read about another Aldi 10L Air Fryer who can also dehydrate foods and was retailing for $149. I'm hoping this will come again soon.

    • That's the one I wanted, since it has levels/trays, bigger, and comes with a rotisserie stick too.
Didn't get to Aldi first thing in the morning and it was all out, personally went to 4 stores and got three other friends to check for me in other places but nope, no stock, all got snatched up first thing in the morning.
Was considering getting the one from this post but you reminded me of this $149 one so I'll try wait it out and hope it comes back…
If not, Kmart seems to have a similar item (the link from @voteoften above)

  • These are great for containing messes. Buy an oil spray bottle so you can squirt a fine mist of more oil on your chicken nuggers or chips half way through.

  • Very interested in buying an air fryer, tempted by the Ninja multi cooker.. since I don't have a 5 in 1 already. Anybody bought one?

  • Tossing up between an oven air fryer or this air fryer.

Seems to be that the oven air fryer would be more versatile as it can handle pizza?

    Thoughts?

  • Think I will get one of the KMart ones as review are really good. Can't decide between the 3.2 or 5.3 litre. Both are large but 5.3 is only about 2cm wider and longer.
I assume if you want to cook a whole chicken you would need the bigger one ??

  • This isn't showing up on the website for the special buys on wed 6th of May… Hopefully it'll be in store anyway.

    • +1

i checked the catalogue in-store the other day and it's saturday, not wednesday

  • +2

Its on sale Saturday 9th not Wednesday…

  • Would this be the right size for 3d printer filament?

  • Any body got any thoughts on the Kogan 12L rotary air fryer for $90 free shipping? Although it's been as cheap as $59 and $69 before

  • Anyone get this from when it went on sale last year? Wanted to get some feedback on how it performed. Wondering whether to get this or wait for the Kmart 5.3 litre one to come back in stock. The reviews for that one are pretty good but this one has more capacity.

    • have got the Kmart 5.3L and its awesome

  • Anyone have or used this one?
More like a toaster oven with air fry capabilities?
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/russell-hobbs-air-fry-crisp-n…

    • Was wondering this too, for a similar oven at Kmart, how this style compares to the round air fryers. Seems more practical, but then it doesn't seem much different to a normal fan forced oven?

      • I was looking at the 3 in 1 as well but seems to be sold out everywhere.
Seems to have good 'incentivised' reviews but exactly that.

      • The round type is better for things like chips or dim sims where you need volume more than flat surfaces. The ones with shelves are essentially small pie warmer ovens, and the bigger ones may also have a rotisserie.

        • The other thing that some users of the KMart one have mentioned, and I would think it's the same for the Russell Hobbs unit, is that if using more than one shelf, you have to shuffle them around to get even cooking. The top tray gets more heat than the bottom one. Also, the rotisseries have a maximum weight limit, so may have issues with a large chicken or roast.

  • I just got 2 of these! Thank you! I tried to find the kmart version to no avail, for myself and my mum in law for Mothers Day! I bought the Phillips XXL for my own mum, it was the last one! I waited in queue at 8am and I was 28th in queue. queen went all around the huge car park.. funny how everyone bought trolley fulls of the cast iron pans that were on special, only 9 air fryers available.. I took 2…

    • Lol I've been to 4 stores. sold out, sad days
I wanted the air purifier too. Also sold out.

      Booo oh well

      • I was in line before the store opened, still didn't manage to get one.
Guess it's the Kmart one for me then, when and if it comes back.

        • Was thinking of going to Kogan now. Seems to review well enough their 5.2L one

      • Don’t stress about the air purifier. It’s will be a drama to replace the filter in the future.

        • Lol Goodguys had it on sale, exact same price so I got that. Happy days anyway.

          Totally understand the filter situation

    • Lucky you, I left the store empty handed. I guess I'll wait for a deal on the philips version…

      • You are not interested in the current cash back deal? Still expensive I guess. I want to see a 50% off black Friday sale on Amazon the Phillips XXL 😂 Nothing's impossible

  • No luck at stores near me in Brisbane the kogan 8L ships from 25th of June guess I’ll order that now, the Kmart $89 for the 5L doesn’t seem the best value in comparison

    • +1

Went to Toombul at opening, was sold out quickly. They only had 12 in stock.

  • I was there at 8:50 this morning and they were already restocking the air fryers. The restock was a whole pallet full, probably more than 20 of them. No idea how many were there at 8:30 when they opened.

  • +1

Managed to get one this morning.
GF managed get get one from the back when stock on floor was gone.
First time i used it…i shook the basket and it broke.
Bye bye airfryer :( they didn't have any replacements.
Got a refund, bad build quality.

  • Do they get more stock in? Or once it's gone it's gone.
