Pretty good deal considering the 3600 is selling for between $320-340 locally depends where you are. So the gain in performance is up to 5% however likely the 3600X has the stronger IMC so for the extra $20-$30 worth it if you're after some better memory overclocks, also comes with a better CPU cooler.

The 3600X cheapest on staticice.com.au is $389 for Computer Alliance QLD but mostly $419 in NSW, VIC

3600X gives you the better cooler so there's that :)

Where was this deal when I bought my 3600 6 months ago.

  • +1

We all know everything is better with X.

But cheapest price + delivery for 3600 looks to be $330 so for $18~ more good deal

      Hold my beer…. XXXX ….

  • Actually thinking about this one, being an import is Amazon easy to deal with if its faulty or still strong case for local in this respect?

    • +1

I've returned stuff to Amazon in the past with no issues. But you do have to pay return postage if I remember correctly. That said postage is less than the saving so you'd still be ahead if you look at it that way.

      • +1

IIRC when I got a refund from amazon I had to pay postage but they included the postage price in the refund

    • Better them then many International companies. They are far better.

  • Just keep in mind even with the better cooler the fan is noisy. I ended up getting another cooler because I couldn't handle the noise!

    • what cooler you end up getting? I am finding mine ramps up and down and can be annoying.

  • So we got 3600X deal and 3800x deal, wheres 3700x lol

That being said it's current price on Amazon is not bad considering others

Unless you're doing heavily multi-threaded tasks not really worth the 3700X imo. I was originally looking at it but apart from desktop stuff I just do a bit of gaming so 3600X better deal for me.

Please do not use or link to userbenchmark. You are correct, but I'd guess you're getting negged for that link. They're a dodgy company that has attacked media that has criticised their unreliable testing, which badly represents real life performance.

        • Hi - is there a recommended benchmark site you suggest? Thanks!

@spongetom: Watch multiple YouTube videos from various sources, they're usually reliable.

  • I have noticed that Amazon are adjusting their prices to the forex multiple times a day.

Only difference between 3600 and 3600x is a bit better cooler.

    • That's if you swap the heatsinks over which if you buy the 3600 you won't have the better heatsink of the 3600X and you'll likely have to pay $20+ for a better one. Which based on this deal you get.

Likely also better IMC on the X so better chance to get greater than 3600 DDR4 speeds as well which would further increase the performance advantage.

      • It's the same silicon. From the above link:

With a quality all-in-one liquid cooler installed we find something very interesting: almost no difference between the two CPUs. Temperatures were exactly the same and clock speeds were also basically identical, in fact the R5 3600 maintained a slightly better PBO frequency in our test, though we wouldn’t read into that too much, there’s a good chance if we ran this enough times with enough CPUs we’d find that on average there’d be no difference in operating frequency.

        Wrap Up

Is the Ryzen 5 3600X worth purchasing over the 3600? Not at all. Other than to improve AMD’s margins there’s no reason for the 3600X to exist.

        • +1

I have read that people got better overclocks for memory on the 3600X. I don't believe they specifically tested IMC limits on either, they just tested base and boost clocks. IMC differences were omitted so it doesn't invalidate my point.

  • It's not a much better heatsink than the basic stealth, especially now that it has been updated. The initial wraith coolers had a copper slug and the fan ran at a lower rpm. As a cost saving measure, amd changed the supplier to foxconn from CoolerMaster, the new wraith has no slug and a faster rpm fan. So the temperatures are similar but it's a much louder fan than that used on the 2600x, 2700.
