  • Wow great price!

    • It is, I talked myself out of buying it. I will regret it in the future but at this point in time I need to actually buy my canopy and fit it out.

I talked myself out of buying it. I will regret it in the future

No you won't. Going by IoT history, it'll be full of vulnerabilities that never get patched, someone might use an exploit to make it run continuous to drain your battery or make it not run at all to ruin the contents or wipe the firmware and brick it or it might have a bug that makes it stop working with newer WiFi chips in phones in 2023 or millions of other really stupid things the IoT revolution has brought upon us.

Get one with a bimetallic thermostat and little to no electronics. It'll outlast the vehicle you install it in. I wouldn't put it past manufacturers to put chips in the refrigerant compressor to prevent it starting unless it receives a signed digital signature start message from the control board or manufacturers web service.

WiFi/Bluetooth/apps do not belong on a fridge you want to own more than a year or two.

        • Thanks for the info. Put my mind at ease lol.

  • That is an awesome price. I nearly bought one of these recently but instead got a 60L Engel (secondhand hardly used). For this price though I'd have bought this.

Great information in this video on youtube.

I don't think a fridge that should last 30 years should have features only available via WiFi and and/or an app.

Fine for throwaway items that should only last a few years though.

  • I know this is an older model now being replaced by new CFX3 series, but this is still a very good price. Too bad 65L is too big for my single person need.

  • Wow great price

  • Just interested…what are some practical applications for the wifi component of this fridge / freezer?

    • +1

So you can see the temperature of this fridge on your mobile phone while you are in the car seats, rather than having to get out and go check it in the boot.

    • If you have it plugged in down at the holiday house stocked with cans, could tell it to turn on a few hours before your arrive and have cold frothies ready as soon as you arrive

      • +1

It doesnt run over the internet, it uses a direct connection from your phone to the device. You would have to use a smart 240v wifi plug for that.

    • Planned obscolescence.

  • How do people use these things? Mount them in their car for camping trips or..?

    • Depends on how you are set up. For my Ute when I get it setup. It will sit in the canopy with a fridge slide. Same goes for SUVs, it sits at the back on a fridge slide or drawers.

      • Bewdy, thanks for the answers guys. Hadn't actually seen the fridge slides before, though I have been looking into some drawers for my 4WD. Cheers.

    • Yes all of the above. I also use mine as a great drinks fridge at parties, imagine an esky that needs no ice and keeps drinks icy cold indefinitely. They are also good if you buy meat in bulk and want to get it home at a safe temp.

  • How this thing powered in the car? Do i need special adaptors or extra battery or i could just hook it up through the cigarette lighter port? I am thinking of using it on long road trips.

    • Doesn't it just go off the 12v (lighter port) in the car?

    • Just uses a cigarette lighter plug, but plugged in will draw around 1ah which will flatten a normal car battery pretty quickly. Fine if you only have it running while the car is on

      • Yes, that is the concern flatting the car battery. I might look into getting a second battery in the car. Thanks.

        • +1

The cigarette lighter circuit only runs while the car is on anyhow - that would only matter if you wire it directly to be on any time

        • If you get a battery, I recommend getting a battery box such as this one, and putting an AGM deep cycle 100 AH inside. These batteries are reliable, no risk of leaking, and can handle any temperature conditions. They are heavy batteries, more than 20 kg. But when parked at the campsite for days, they will keep powering your fridge for a long time.

    • It uses the cigarette lighter, but it draws up to 8.2 amps. That's 100 watts. You need to make sure your lighter socket is rated to that load, not all of them are.

      • Lot of small cars with thin wiring will show faults as soon as you plug it in.

  • I'm curious how loud the cooling motor is when its running. Also, can I leave this on permanently like a fridge ??

    • They're not loud at all, and you can definitely run them full time. I think I read somewhere it's better to run them than to leave them off for extended periods.

    • very quite, i have slept in my canopy with fridge and its barely noticeable.

Mine has run for the past 6 years almost continuously (previous non wifi version)

      • So you mean plugged into mains power, functioning as a normal fridge in your home? What's the benefit of this fridge over a normal fridge for that purpose?

        • No in the back of my ute, always hand to keep cold drinks etc in between camping trips etc

          • @macmanluke: I see. So you mean continuously as long as your car is running.

It would be interesting to know how much petrol is needed per year to keep the fridge on whenever you drive. I guess it's like having a second air-con in the car.

            • @cerealJay: Not noticeable in a V8 diesel and mostly powered by solar power

              • @macmanluke: I remember V8's. These days I'm packing twin 16-cylinder diesel engines, turbocharged of course. Solar panels not needed. :)

  • would + but cant get my hands on one

  • $450 at anaconda price beat if your lucky
