OnePlus 8 Pro (8GB, 128GB) - AU $1,271.26 with Free Shipping @ T-Dimension

250

Also available in Onyx Black.

Retail price for this version is $1408.

I say comparing to other retail sites such as becextech ($1349 + $74.95 shipping, or Kogan ($1,495 with shipping, or eBay ($1499). It's not that bad if you're interested in buying.

Just be mindful though, a lot of owners from the Oneplus subreddit are experiencing some screen issues where green tints and black crushes are visible when the device is below 15% brightness. It seems to be a lottery case as other users claim to not have the problem.

EDIT: Added a review by MKBHD for the lazy.

Just be aware this appears to be the CN version flashed with the Global ROM - no Band 28 support.

So you mind telling me the significance of 28 band support?

      • +1

It’s used by Optus & Telstra for 4g, especially outside metro areas.

      • +1

As I understand it, B28 provides for better 4G coverage in rural areas and inside CBD high-rises - due to it being a lower frequency with better range and wall penetration? Mind you, this is primarily for those on Telstra or Optus - Vodafone doesn't use B28 as part of its 4G bands

      • +1

B28 is important if you are on Optus or Telstra and are in either remote areas or in CBD buildings where higher frequencies usually don't reach very well.

        • +1

          Thanks to you all.

    • Is this the same for the regular One Plus 8 CN Version?

  • This or s20 plus?

    • +8

Same boat, but the S20+ seems to be the smarter choice unfortunately. Local warranty is the smarter move.

    • +1

You may want to balance up that the S20 has Exynos, not Snapdragon…

    • Depends on your needs.
      Camera: S20.
Battery Life: S20 (Assuming it's the Snapdragon version and not Exynos), otherwise they're pretty much the same.
      Price: Oneplus.
Performance: You won't notice the difference. Unless you've got the Exynos version.
      Warranty: S20
      Resale Value: Oneplus

      • +1

Does one plus have better resale value ?

        • +4

In my opinion: because of less availability here, there is less 'competition' when reselling, so it can be resold at a higher price.

      • Snapdragon isn’t sold here so battery/performance not an advantage.

I bought s20 plus last week due to company reimbursing part of the plan costs. If not would have gone foe one plus due 120hz screen at any resolution.

      • +1

My mate's got the S20 plus and the camera doesn't look anywhere near as good as my OnePlus 7 Pro. Whether you chalk it up to the hardware, software, or our individual skill, we're at a point where none of that shit matters.

Personally I'll never buy an Exynos phone. Trash hardware and more expensive than Snapdragon. I don't like being phisted.

I've purchased 7 OnePlus phones (2 for me, 5 for the family) off eBay in the last few years. Never had a problem, never had to send anything back, claim warranty, etc. Maybe if our Samsungs were Snapdragon I might consider them if the price is competitive, but as it stands I prefer Oxygen OS and the way OnePlus does things.

    • If you would not be gaming go for s20plus as you would get local support and additional warranty.

If you game don’t buy exynos variant of Samsung.

Curved screen and no VoLTE .. move on.

    • +1

I bought Oneplus 7T Pro and I tried many avenues to get the VoLTE to work but its just won't work at all! I gave up and sticking to official Samsung AU phones.

    • VoLTE can be had on optus, not telstra though

      • -1

Uhhh I'm on Telstra and staring at my LGs VoLTE symbol right now.

        • +2

we are talking about oneplus phones

      • How do you get VoLTE on Oneplus phones? I'm with optus

    • Is Volte that important?

  • Is this really a deal, oneplus for so much money?

    • +4

While this is a lot, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Motorola have all gone flagship this year and all of them beat the S20 Ultra for far less money.

      • +9

While I agree with the all gone flagships, I'm not so sure about the far less money part. With Samsung you still get good cameras, you can get them at a very competitive price with epp and education deals and more importantly you get much better 2 years local warranty and support from Samsung.

  • +3

Is this an Australian warranty and has anyone dealt with T Dimension before? When you click on the 1 year warranty sign it just takes you to the top of the page. It certainly doesn't inspire confidence in them.

Unfortunately grey imports are likely to be the only way to get this device right? Oneplus don't tend to release here. The Oppo Find X2 Pro will be though and that is just as good. Plus the Motorola Edge + will be and that also looks amazing.

    • findx2 pro is expected to be $1599 i think

    • There were useless when dealing with Lg G4 issue

  • +9

I remember when this company was first hailed as a flagship competitor at a fraction of the cost. Now that they've proven themselves looks like they joined everyone else.

    • +1

      NEVER
      SETTLE

    • The half yearly cycle is a joke, mobile tech isn’t advancing that quickly any more. The only reason to stick to the half yearly cycle is to tap into the segment of the market that needs to always have the newest model.

      • Ahhh yes the lucrative "Jackass" market.

  • +1

Perhaps now it is time to get 7 Pro?

    • +2

      It is an awesome phone

    • You'll be paying close to 1k for that too. Should have been down to $600-700 by now if it wasn't for the lack of stock and low AUD. Isn't it 2 gens behind now with the 7T Pro and now the 8 series?

      • 6 months release cycles, hard to define the by generational change

  • -1

I was ready to give up headphone jacks, but no microsd slot? I'm going to LG or Sony now. Hope the Velvet is going to be a good smartphone.

  • +1

    Does the price include GST?

  • +4

No Band 28 means no deal. Yes, the exynos processor sucks but the S20 series through the education store is easily the best flaghip phone deal going right now.

    • agreed the oneplus 8 pro isn't really that good given the price tag and missing band 28. but s20 is also a no go with that exynos and software issue. sold mine s20 ultra straight away even though i got it for half price. you better off waiting for oppo or MOTO

      • what software issue?

The Moto Edge Plus looks interesting but also way too expensive given Motorola has no chops in the flagship market anymore.

The Find X2 Pro looks great too but i also think it'll be too expensive here…

Wish, wish wish that Huawei had access to GMS as the Mate 30 Pro, P40 Pro and Honor 30 Pro 5G all look great…

  • +1

Got the S20 Ultra last week for 1399

  • this or the mi10/mi10 pro?

    • Right now mi10 pro and oneplus 8 pro are selling around the same price. My advice is if both are of the same price then go with Oneplus 8 pro. If you get the mi10 pro about $200-$300 cheaper, then go with the mi10 pro. If you want to wait, I believe Xiaomi will drop mi 10 pro price eventually but I do not expect Oneplus 8 pro to drop their price.

      • seems like oneplus is faster, but mi has better camera

        • In terms of speed it is the same actually. Camera is really subjective and not really much of difference. However bare in mind that if you take a lot of selfie Videos while walking, mi 10 pro selfie camera does not have good Image Stabilization when taking videos. Now, if you plan to use this phone for many years, get the OnePlus 8 pro because, OnePlus gives 3 Android Updates, while Samsung gives 2 Android Updates, and Xiaomi gives 1 Android Update. However Xiaomi does give 4 year MIUI Update. Make your choice keeping these things in mind.

Seems like a lot of money to spend on a phone that has no manufacturer warranty, and for a model on a half yearly release cycle?

  • -5

friggin ridiculous price for something not Apple or Samsung

  • Does anyone know where I can get these phones with the Band 28 support? AFAIK other models other than IN2020 support them but I cant seem to find any online

  • Suspect that the price mentioned also need to pay import duty & gst on top? Anyone hv experience with this vendor?

  • Kogan have just listed the Oneplus 8 Pro global model with band 28 support. It's actually sold by Kogan too unlike the other listings so the warranty experience might be a bit better. It's a bit more expensive at $1449 and you have to wait till the 29th of May before it ships.

    • damn I missed this now its sold out :( anyone manage to snag one?

      • Still shows it's on presale for me

        • I was looking at the ultramarine blue one. It ran out of stock earlier but just got restocked so I picked it up this time :)

  • How is this seller like? I've owned grey imports since the oneplus one so I'm fine with the grey product itself just not sure about the seller. Is it worth saving the $200 from other deals like Kogan?

    • This one does not have band 28 support. The one sold by Kogan (not the 43rd party does). Its worth paying extra imo

      • I switch networks pretty often and have found myself most comfortable with the Vodafone network so I'm fine with the lack of band 28 support. Took a plunge and bought the T-Dimension one, fingers crossed!

        • I bought mine on the 5th of May and it arrived on the 13th via FedEx. Packaging was good and everything seems to be good so far. Just don't get your hopes up with FedEx's delivery estimation due to Covid. I had mine say it was to be delivered on the 8th and 11th.

Don't forget to test and see if your device has the 'black crush' or 'green tint' issue. Apparently the update 10.5.8 was supposed to be patch to fix all these. So if you've still got problems while you're on that version, it's more than likely a hardware issue.

I'm currently on 10.5.6 (10.5.8 isn't available to us yet) on my 8 Pro and I don't have any issues with mine, so I guess I'm pretty lucky.

          • @GoochTicklerrr: Whoa thanks for the heads up! I ordered mine May 13th and just got a notification from FedEx it will be here on the 18th. What time did yours arrive?

            • @penguinswillrise: Mine came around 12pm. Even though the tracking site stated it was to be delivered at 5pm.

              • @GoochTicklerrr: Thanks mate, as expected they date was not accurate. It was supposed to arrive yesterday but it just landed in Singapore this morning. Did your package travel to multiple countries as well?

                • @penguinswillrise: Yeah before Australia, mine traveled to three different countries.

                  Here's my tracking history:
                  Hong Kong (05/05) > Japan (07/05) > China (08/05) > Singapore (10/05) > Aus, Mascot (11/05) > Matraville (12/05) > Rydalmere (13/05) > My house in Oran Park NSW (13/05)

                  • @GoochTicklerrr: Mine arrived just before the weekend after being stuck in SG for 2 days (14/05-21/05). Sadly mine has the green tint issue and even after the 10.5.8 OTA I am not completely satisfied so I'm gonna try to get a replacement.

                    • @penguinswillrise: Damn that's really unfortunate, do let us know how the return/replacement process goes.

I've read on some forums that turning 'DC Dimming' on reduces or removes the tint for some people.

                      • @GoochTicklerrr: Yup I've already initiated the process and sent them some photos let's see what their tech support says. DC dimming does help however I get horrendous "black crush" in dark areas which is worse than a green tint. I don't mean to undermine you in anyway but the more I read the more it seems like the panel itself is fundamentally flawed, would you say you looked hard for the green tint? If you did and you're happy then it means that there are good displays out there and I can hope for one haha

                      • @GoochTicklerrr: Hey mate, would you mind if I PM-ed you to discuss the screen issues a bit further? T-Dimension got back to me and claims that the green tint is normal and I'd just like to show them that, well, you're not supposed to see green when it's grey.

  • I am looking to buy OnePlus 8Pro 12GB/256GB Black IN2023 EU Model, which has both B28 for 4G and N78 for 5G in Australia. Chinese version is IN2020 which has N78 Band for 5G but lacks B28 for 4G. The international version (apparently for US & NA) is IN2025 which has B28 for 4G but lacks N78 for 5G. So only EU Model IN2023 ticks both the boxes.
I know 4G will work without B28 also, but if you are spending over $1,000 it is better to have fully functional device.

Any reliable source to purchase EU model please?
