[Pricing Error] Paul's Warehouse Running Shoes Asics Free $0 + $10 Shipping

Mod: This is no longer available Paul's Warehouse. Most likely a pricing error so it's now moved to the forum section where the discussion can continue.

Update 2: This has been confirmed as a website error from "IT & eCommerce" department of Paul's Retail Pty Ltd. See scotty's comment here

Update 3: Paul's Warehouse has sent out an email explaining the situation and is in the process of refunding the postage. See SweetStella's comment here

Found mens Running shoes asics running shoes sizes 8.5-13 for $0 . Ordered 2X $220 and 1 x $150. The chekout calculated $10 shipping only for 3 pairs of runners. Went till the payment page. Did not pay as the sizes are too big for me.

        …garage aka bedroom…

  • will be interesting to see what happens…

  • TBH, the best chance this had of working would of been for the op to place an order ( a pair or two at most) and wait to see if it slipped through then posted the deal on here. That might of slipped through unnoticed but not now that their online ordering has just gone through the roof, it's going to stand out like dogs balls.

    • +5

Did you say they're giving away dogs balls as well?? What sort of dogs?? What's the SKU?? All I got was running shoes…..

      • +1

Dogs balls? My chihuahua would love a set of rottweilers… where's the link??

  • +1

Is this true? This might be a bogus site made by some crooks just to grab our CREDIT CARD info. They don't have PAYPAL which I think is more secure because they can't find any datail.

    • You are supposed to be only able to register a com.au if you have an Australia ABN number, so less likely then if it was a .com site.

  • Going to give this one a miss if they had paypal I would of gave it a shot.

    • +1

I think I give a shot at all. I checked with ABN 40 752 587 129 is under their name + I checked their WebSite info, still under their name.

  • +5

If they issued an invoice, that means they are oblige to grant the sale because….. Please refer to the case of JB-Hifi.. http://www.theage.com.au/digital-life/hometech/500-sweetener…

"JB Hi-Fi is offering a $500 sweetener to customers who ordered a $15 high-definition television set from its website only to be told later that the retailer would not honour the deal.
About 105 bargain hunters rushed to buy the Samsung 40-inch flat screen TV sets early yesterday.
However, the special price was an error. The TV sets usually sell for $3500 and also come with a bonus 22-inch LCD TV via redemption.
    Advertisement: Story continues below
One person was so enticed by the mistake he ordered 65 of the television sets, The Australian Financial Review reported today.
The error was quickly corrected but that did not stop customers from demanding that JB Hi-Fi honour the original price. Some said they received a receipt from JB Hi-Fi by email.
The retailer has now dangled a carrot in front of affected customers to assuage their concerns, promising to sell them the TV sets for $2500 - a significant reduction on the already discounted listed price of $2964.
Amanda Bodger, a consumer protection lawyer with Mallesons Stephen Jaques, said it was unlikely customers could force JB Hi-Fi to honour the original price through the courts.
She explained that, under contract law, when a product is advertised with a certain price tag, this is simply an invitation to the customer, who can then choose whether to make an offer to buy the product from the retailer.
The retailer must then accept the offer in order for a contractual obligation to apply.
The acceptance could come in the form of the retailer billing the customer's credit card or giving the customer a receipt.
Terms and conditions listed on the retailer's website say it reserves the right to cancel any order without notice for any reason.
"In a situation like this, customers would face an uphill battle to bring a legitimate claim," Bodger said.
"In terms of trade practices obligations, obviously retailers can't engage in bait advertising; they can't mislead customers, but genuine errors which are fixed quickly normally don't result in any investigation by the ACCC [Australian Competition & Consumer Commission] or any further action by consumers."
Yesterday, the ACCC said it did not intervene in disputes when there was "a genuine error or minimal consumer detriment".
In an email sent to affected customers, JB Hi-Fi said the incorrect price was "caused by an error with an automated price routine".
"The advertised promotion of `15% off Televisions' was applied to all relevant models in our catalogue apart from this model, which displayed at a $15 sell price," the email read.

err, the article says the opposite of what you are claiming.

        • +13

I'll never understand this mentality that a well-known business can easily bear to lose tens of thousands of dollars in stock and just laugh it off.

Have you read their financial reports from the last few years, and have some sort of insight into their net profits, stock levels and such? Do you know the owners personally?

Have you ever built a business from the ground up? Do you have any concept of the capital required, the never-ending stream of costs: supplier, freight, staff, infrastructure, insurance, advertising etc.

Not attacking you personally abdalian, but jeez I get sick of this "I'm small and you're big so you owe me" sense of entitlement. Do you have any idea what this country will look like when your average aussie can't risk everything (time, money, etc) to build up a business for themselves?

I don't want to get all "Atlas Shrugged" or "Kiyasaki" on you, but why is it exactly successful businesses are fair game? Are you socialist?

      • -1

This is my thought. Refer to this phrase.

"She explained that, under contract law, when a product is advertised with a certain price tag, this is simply an invitation to the customer, who can then choose whether to make an offer to buy the product from the retailer.
The retailer must then accept the offer in order for a contractual obligation to apply.
The acceptance could come in the form of the retailer billing the customer's credit card or giving the customer a receipt.

I have checked my order status and it says declined !!

    • -5

Have you got your invoice? if yes, now they are liable because they accepted they offer. you can file a case against them!

      • +1

Yes I have recevied the invoice .. but when I checked the order status it had 2 lines first said Declined and the other said "Paid and in Process"..just ordered 1 of the pairs only :-))

    • Mine says "Paid and in Process". But I'm 99.9% sure that'll change. Worth a try anyway!

      • how many did you order?

  • went through, will see how it goes, + regardless

  • +1

I honestly would not expect them to honour the deal and won't have any hard feelings towards them at all if they don't. I figure if I do get them it'd be a chance to treat myself and a chance to give away (I ordered three) a pair to someone else deserving. I expect a 'declined' and a refund pretty soon though.

  • is it $10 capped shipping?

    • +1

      Yes, appears so.

  • Ordered 1 pair, and have received the tax invoice already.

As far as I'm concerned, this is no different if they overcharge you mistakenly - will they ring you to let you know, I doubt it.

    Caveat Venditor !

PS- have taken a screen shot of the price where it says "$0.00 you save 100%" in case they want to reject my order … hehehehe

  • Mine currently says "Paid and in progress" as well.. lets wait and see.

  • +11

Am I the only person here who sees this as a simple error on the part of the retailer?! FFS.

    • +3

I would think so yes, so I won't bother with this.

  • I guess Paul's W'house has been watching Zappos… &
is trying to create a Wow! effect.

Don't know if this is a Credit Card fishing trip,
but I'm in for 2 pairs (& hope the sizes are right).

  • Worth a shot…
they could just be fakes from China - in that case - $10 would be overpriced and they would be making a profit!

  • +1

price has been FIXED, not $0 anymore

    • Not true, some of the sizes are still showing $0 price!!

  • -6

Why dont we all complain against Pauls incase they reject our orders…. its worth a try.
What difference does it make to Pauls anyways? Its a big multimillion dollar company.
And probably you guys should know that the markup on shoes is generally around 150%.!!!
They make aweful lot of money by ripping people off anyways. Thats why people are going online for shopping overeas.

    • +5
      1. you would lose.
      2. If you think prices are too high you can shop for cheaper shoes.
      3. That's why people are going online. Not to sit around, wait for price errors and try to force big companies to honour them.
  • +2

abdalian. Pauls like any other business exists to make money

    • -4

I agree with people making money in a business - but there is a difference between making money and ripping people off…
Sometime ago one of my friend thought about starting a shoe business. He got some quotes and would you believe the cost of one pair of shoe to be delivered to Sydney including manufacturing costs came to $5. That shoe was more than $100 in retail…
I think this is really ridiculous and it sux.

      • +1

So knowing that did you put it all on the line and go into business? For certain somebody at PW did.

And from bargains I've found there before they're a welcome option to the full retail at my local sports/shoe stores.

That's why they get my $100.

  • +6

Do you think [email protected] is the email address of the russian hacker who hacked the Pauls site, changed the price, then captured the card and ID details of all the suckers falling into his honeytrap?

    • I don't know.

The post on OzBargain was made 8 hours and 44 mins ago (12:07am).
The prices on the Paul's website for the first link was last updated: Sep 19 2011 12:25AM.

Does anyone know what timezone the Paul's website is in?

    • -1

One can only hope, something along the line of "serves them all right".

  • Just placed an order for the Asics Gel Pulse 3 Mens Q311 pair. Don't like my chances of the order being dispached but worth a try ;)

Edit - Transaction has appeared on my bank statement as pending.

  • Any good shoes for size-7 girl ?

    • Have a look at the kids sizes, they go up to 7

  • My brother just ordered a pair. HOWEVER, the invoice is dated 12.00am 20/9/2011… when was this up?

Also "Your contract with Pauls Warehouse and associated Companies only comes into existence when the order is verified as valid. " when is is verified as valid? When you get the invoice?

  • Has anyone tried calling "Order/Enquiry Line: (02) 8762 4106" to see if this is really TRUE :)

    • +3

      dont do that ;)

  • +3

I feel like it's still worth having a crack. It's always possible. When DSE stuffed up and had that 'Buy 1, get 5 free' on Wii Remotes, Most people got an email saying that it was a pricing error and would not be honoured… But I still got mine :) and I'm sure a few others did too. No harm in trying.

  • +2

Is this any kind of fraud to get our credit card details?
Just trying to understand how to keep it safe in case this happens?

    • +1

the details showing in my netbank match a purchse i made from Pauls a few weeks ago. looks fine mate :-)

  • 2 pairs for $10… Guess we will wait and see what happens.

  • It's usually just to garner site traffic. Either that, or someone is trolling.

  • Still available. I just ordered 3 pairs, $10.

  • +6

Come on guys - this is obviously just a simple pricing error.
I find it disapointing that Ozbargain is rapidly deteriorating into Oz'who can we rip off because they have made an honest mistake'. In my view taking advantage of this obvious error is no different to walking into one of Pauls stores and walking out with a pair of shoes just because nobody happens to be watching you at the time.

We should respect Paul's warehouse for offering great prices and keeping other brands such as Rebel on their toes.

    • +3

… I prefer to listen to the little guy with the horns on my other shoulder.

      • +2

I prefer to pay paul's price rather than full price…

      • +1

I keep trying to hit that guy with a 9mm but the little bastard crawls his way back sometimes…

    • +1

I disagree. It's like Pauls warehouse putting a price ticket of $0 on the item by mistake. It's still not stealing.

    • +3

Totally agree with the comment by MattyD and drongodave. I normally don't voice my opinions on stuff like this here, and I am the biggest tight arse and will take advantage of anything I can, but I think companies such as this should be allowed to correct what is obviously a mistake. Honest stuff like this is gonna happen in the world of computers and online websites. No, it is not stealing but trying to look at terms and conditions and getting caught up with legal terms etc. is in my opinion exploiting what is an honest mistake by a retailer. It is not about stealing but about a bit of understanding and decency. Especially to a retailer that appears to be trying to offer half decent prices in the first place.

      • +5

The smart thing for Pauls to do at this time is to admit they screwed up and offer us all a special ozbargain discount code. If they look at their server traffic they should realise how much facetime they've gotten from this. Not asking for 100% off, but if they do it right, the shoes should fly out the door :)

  • Prices are returning back to normal.

  • -1

    Time to remove this posting.

  • After I order two different sizes 10 minutes ago I returned to the site and the prices for those two sizes only had returned to normal. The other 100% off range were still 100% off.

  • +1

I got through with a whole heap of shoes…kids go through them so quickly…let's hope they have to honor it!!! (doubt it but there is always hope!!)

    • what? false hope ?

  • Doesn't work anymore (if it worked earlier). Checkout now shows $129 for a pair that was RRP $139 down to $0

  • -1

Status shows "Paid and in Process"
Wondering how long it will take to reach these items to us?
Hope this arrives before 2 weeks :( vacation time….

    • Assuming it will go through…

    • It's going to take eternity to reach you.

    • Never gonna give you up……

  • +7

Some people really need to rethink their attitudes. What makes you think you have the right to sue a company over an error?

  • went into account, shows that it's been declined

  • In a department store i.e Target, Big W, Myer etc if the marked price is wrong they are still obligated to give you the item at the marked price, I can assume as this is an Australian company that they will be regulated by the same policies.

    • +4

      four problems with that arguement.

      1) thats THEIR story policy, not any law or regulation. the big retailers have their 'honour system', but no one else has to follow it.

      2) regardless of their policy, by law they don't HAVE to sell you anything. until they put the money in the till, ownership or rights to any product remains with the store. they can withdraw an item from sale at any time, or limit quantities.

      3) they can refuse entry or refuse to serve anyone they like, just like any other private store.

      4) never assume anything when it comes to law :).

  • any updae if ordered was denied or got their ordered delivered?

  • +9

Man. I thought I joined OzBargain and not OzGreedyAsFsck. If you want to try your luck, try your luck but don't get all pissy about it when the bleedingly obvious happens.

  • +4

As it is no longer showing $0, my guess is that it's a pricing error. Since the offer was posted at midnight I doubt Paul's Warehouse has time to respond to all the orders flooding in.

I have now moved this post to the forums, and I have tried to contact Paul's Warehouse using their contact form. Hopefully we'll get a reply today. Maybe they and LogitechShop had a Magento upgrade at the same time?

Edit: Just got a word from their Head of IT & eCommerce.

This was an error and we are in the process of fixing it.
Please take the whole topic of your website and confirm.

The discussion will stay here in the forums.

    • +1

quick question Scotty. the choice of words they have used seem pretty commanding. Just for my own knowledge, does it matter if u choose to leave it on as a deal and marked it as expired instead of moving it to the forums? Can they take ozbargain to task?

      • Sometimes people don't read the Expired, will vote it up, then get extremely angry that the shop isn't honouring the deal that was expired :S

        It's happened before.

      • +4

@dy4me — yeah that's often the tone they use when asking to pull things down. Actually Paul's Warehouse is fine, and there have been many that are much worse.

As a community forum I think I am in some sense responsible to the users of this website so posts should stay up for discussion if there are enough interests in this. Moreover there is no real loss to them for posts like this to stay up, as they have already fixed their pricing error and will probably decline all purchases.

However if they push "hard enough" I might need to take it down. I simply don't have the time and resource to fight them, unfortunately.

As of deals vs. forums — it's actually affecting things internally when we do the accounting. Being on the first page also generates a lot of traffic to the said merchant, which might not be ideal.

        • Thanks for the explanation Scotty and foundit! :)

        • +2

Why do i have a feeling that a "Paul's Warehouse" staff is amongst us and seeing yesterdays success on Logitech shop decided to do a mistake themselves.

    • +1

I think pricing errors should stay in forums and not be posted as a deal. It would be terrible if these pricing errors later cause OzB legal problems because some people were overzealous and taking the bargain hunting a bit too far.

At the end of the day, people who try to take up a "pricing error" deal have put their own money at risk, if the company is less than efficient returning the funds if they cancel the transaction. Just creates a lot of unnecessary trouble.

  • -1

1x pair ordered, order still shows as paid and in process

  • unless it is deliberate just to get some traffic to the site, but I doubt it… gets some people pissed off tho…

  • +1

Guys, I think everything's been said already.

It's probably worth holding off until there is an update from:
    - anyone who made a purchase
    - the business

Everything else is just speculation and potentially repeating what's been said already.

    Thanks.

  • are the sizes listed on their website US or AUS?

    • +1

US. check page 1 there is a link of sizes

  • yes i am Russian and all of you are playing Russian roulette with me .. LOL, but I am not a hacker. I thought the deal is legit. Where are my +votes?? :)

    • u had votes but now deal moved to forums

  • Any newz on ordered status from fellow buyers or Paul's Warehouse folks?

    • My account has been deleted on their website, so I can not track my order - there is still a holding auth on my c/card for the $10 postage.

      • Account deleted by Paul's Warehouse folks?

        • Appears that way - can not log in, or retrieve my password via e-mail.

      • +1

Just checked mine - account still ok, status of order is "PAID AND IN PROCESS"

        • +1

same here …. account still ok, status of order is "PAID AND IN PROCESS"

  • Dont pay full price… pay pauls price

Why thank you paul… i shall!

    Lets hope they honour it!

  • I doubt . Could not connect to remote server http://www.paulswarehouse.com.au/ the site is down.

  • wow now the entire site is down….

    *beaten…

    • OzBargain strikes again lol :)

  • +3

    paulswarehouse.com.au: We're not running

Get it? Hello. Is this thing on?

  • site is back up and my order is still 'paid and in progress'
i would have thought for sure they would be deleting accounts and/or orders when they had the site down…
