Being in stock doesn't make it a bargain…

Same price at Mwave and MSY.

Edit: I take it back, both say out of stock.

It's worth mentioning that this is an IPS/PLS monitor, as most of Samsung's 4k monitor lineup is TN, with a small smattering of VA.

    • +2

      Is that good or bad?

      • +4

IPS is generally rated a better panel

      • +3

It is a good thing to have IPS display

      • +1

While it can typically depend on the use case, in the instance of Samsung's 4k TN monitors, they are just horrible.

      • +1

TN = High Refresh Rate (bad viewing angles)
VA = High Contrast Ratio (decent viewing angles)
IPS = High Brightness (great viewing angles)

  • Disregard. Wrong info. >_<

    • +1

I think it was correct. Anyways full specs here:
      https://www.samsung.com/au/monitors/ur55/

      • Was it? Amazon showed 1080p instead of 4k so I got confused. Didn't want to give out wrong info just in case.

        • That's wrong. Model number and description in Amazon are for the 4K/UHD monitor.

Says $50 postage for me in regional NT

Have been looking at one of these the last few weeks. Using for console gaming mostly really weighing up 1440P 144hz vs 4K 60hz. My brain hurts!

    • Well one console games can only output a framerate of 60FPS (making high Hz monitors pointless) although the two next generation consoles are capable of of 120FPS output …

… and two rendering at lower resolution than the display without a downscalar looks blurry. Almost no monitors have downscalars.

      • +1

So what would you recommend in my case? Going for the higher Hz? (I do plan on buying the next gen consoles day 1 most probably)

        • +2

If you can afford to buy both next gen consoles day 1 why are you bothering with a $500 monitor. Get an OLED

          • @captaincabinets: I'm pretty strange, I've got a decent 4K TV (not OLED) and play single player games on it fine, but prefer to play any online/multiplayer games at a desk with a monitor (also wouldn't mind a decent monitor for my PC, but I play games far less on that)

            • @MBix: If you want something that will work nicely with the next gen consoles you should probably wait ~8 months until they're out. There may be factors you hadn't thought of (E.g. HDMI 2.1). Also be aware that LG is releasing a 48" OLED this year. For many that will be too big for a desk but for some that's doable.

              • +1

@captaincabinets: Yeh I was actually thinking I should maybe wait a bit too, I appreciate the help with this one!

You are wrong in terms of downscaling.
The xbox has supersampling so it does its magic downscaling 4k to 1440p for a really crisp image

  • 60 Hz refresh rate so not optimal for gaming, otherwise looks very nice.

  • Tech Specs in the link say this is 1920 x 1080 max res

    • It's definitely 3840 x 2160

  • Not a good deal, I got the 28 inch h750 quantum dot for 420 from mwave. The blacks are amazing

    • true, this monitor has a brightness of 300nits, which is fake HDR

    • +1

TN panel. No deal. UR55 is IPS

      • IPS at 60hz are not that great for gaming, bec of the quantum dot the colour accuracy and increase a lot

    • Which minotor is this?

  • LG UL600 could be had for around 500 on sale, that has higher brightness for HDR and possibly better colour accuracy. I don't see how this monitor with 300nits is sufficient to run HDR properly.

    • +2

Regarding the colour accuracy. These two models are pretty similar. Both are 99% srgb.

      • Samsung does not disclose colour accuracy information in product specs https://www.samsung.com/au/monitors/ur55/ RGB, Gamut marked as N/A.

I think it is safer to go with LG UL600 series but it does cost more at the moment

        • My bad, actually it mentions that the DCI-P3 Gamut is 90%. Not sure how does it compare to 99% srgb.

  • I just returned a VA monitor I got that made my eyes hurt.
Found this and ordered it instead (from pccasegear actually, Amazon said it could take 3 weeks to get to me). Fingers crossed this can end my search for a good all-round monitor!

    • +1

Shipping via Auspost look a while. 2.5 weeks from Sydney to Melbourne. Generally happy with the monitor. This is the first 4K HDR monitor that i have owned and i can't really complain. I got it mostly as an all around home monitor and for occasional photo editing. For me the colours are accurate enough, but high on the saturation out of the box(Just like Samsung phones?), but that can be adjusted.

      Overall happy with this.

      • Awesome to hear! Thank you!
