CTEK Battery Charger 12V 5Amp with Bonus Powerbank & Acc MXS5.0PB $127.40 Delivered @ Repco

150

Not quite as good as last September's deal, but this still seems to be the best price out there for a MXS5.0.

Free delivery is available for orders over $99 until tonight.

Unsure of the specifics of the $95 bonus kit, eg specs of the Powerbank or what accessories are included beyond what is shown in the images (eg protective case).

Also available is a second bonus pack (clearance item - may be difficult to find stock)
CTEK BATTERY CHARGER 12V 5AMP WITH BONUS COOLER BAG - MXS5.0CB - $97.30 plus delivery

Repco has a 30% off CTEK battery chargers sale on at the moment, the standalone MXS 3.8 and MXS 5.0 chargers without extras are also discounted but the pricing is still higher than both bonus packs.
* MXS3.8 $110.60 - more expensive than the MXS5.0CB
* MXS5.0 $135.10 - more expensive than both MXS5.0CB and MXS5.0PB

Hope I didn't screw up my first deal post…

  • My car battery is on its last breath, will this prolong its life ?

    • +1

Potentially, it has a recondition setting that is supposed to do this.

    • +2

If the battery is older than say 3yrs or more I think you should change it.

The hassle of a flat battery when away from home is not worth the hassle.

      • +1

yeah anything "on its last breath" on car should be replaced

    • Thanks guys, I'll have to folk out big bucks then …

      • Don't limit yourself to the autostores Supercheap Auto, Repco, etc.
You will get better deals from shops that specialise in car batteries, their normal prices are usually better than the autostores sale prices.

Check ebay.com.au, look for a local shop.

        • Funnily enough, I recently found a good price for Exide battery at Bunnings. It needed ordering in which took 3-4 days but way cheaper than anything auto store was going to be near. This is the top-end Exide with 42 months warranty.

          • @placard: Can I have the link? I was thinking just get a Century from repco

            • @frewer: From memory Repco only sell their own branded batteries (not sure who makes them), and they aren't much cheaper than brand name ones.

I found Century from SCA quite expensive.

Supercharge is a good brand, but not always on sale - at Autobarn. I wanted a Supercharge but they were $209 for equivalent battery.

Exide one had similar specs (CCA, AH, RC, etc) and warranty for $169.

Obviously you will have to check on Exide or Supercharge website what battery suits your car. Do this carefully. For this car above I was looking at, there appears to be 3 choices, so this car must come with two electrical set ups, but I had to carefully check the one I needed, - the positive and negative terminals were around the wrong way in the two options, for a start so it literally wouldn't have worked.

    • I bought the MXS5.0T back in 2015 after draining the batteries in two different Mk6 Golfs while I was doing work on them. After this, I have kept both Golfs, an X3 and my current Golf (both AGM) topped up during times of minimal use (overseas travel). Even though some cars will come out of no use after a few weeks I've found the German electronics tend to drain the batteries pretty badly after a week and this will keep them topped up avoiding a costly replacement. I've been keeping my missus 2013 Nissan Pulsar ST topped up since 2016 as it now does <10km trips to work, and to date, it is still on its original battery (to prolong a car's life and answer your question: yes), and it will probably be good to keep the battery topped up if you're not using your car during these quiet times as insurance companies finding there has been an increase in call-outs to replace car batteries. Otherwise, this device has more than paid itself off for me IMO.

Thank you for that infors, I definitely buy this when it goes on special again.

      • Thanks for the infos too. Btw, do I need to disconnect the battery from the car or just charge it connected? Cheers

        • +1

You connect directly to the car, taking the battery out of the car would be a complete pain in the ### unless you had intentions on putting it in another vehicle. For connecting to the car, the red cable to the positive terminal on the battery and the black cable to a dedicated grounding terminal found in most modern cars, unpainted or grounded body panel, NOT the negative terminal of the battery as it will say in the instructions.

Better buying the cooler bag pack @$97.30 if able to find stock to pick up.
Or add something for $1.70+ to get free delivery! eg Sandpaper @$1.95
    Total price $99.25 DELIVERED

The very basic 5000mAh Powerbank is worth under $10. Not worth paying $30 more than the same charger, accessories & small cooler bag.

Both packs were previously $89 @Repco. Bought both in December, kept the Powerbank pack

The small cooler bag looks like a car battery & the 5000mAh Powerbank looks like the charger.

    Good charger.
    Included Accessories are handy.
(Rubber Bumper Cover protects the charger & surfaces, 3 LED Charge Indicator wires onto battery - charger plugs into it)

    • I was just thinking that, why pay so much extra for a tiny powerbank.

Great charger, I need one, I'll wait for another cheap $90 or less deal on the MXS5.0

      • Hope your Deal comes true.
There was also a different charger deal with Bluetooth recently

  • No stock available that I can find?

    • Use free delivery!
      Plenty near me in Brisbane.

      • can't find any stock for link with bonus cooler bag

        • These were rare in December. Have been a few deals for them.

None near me or anywhere I tried. Can't add to cart for delivery.

If you can place an order, add $1.95 sandpaper to get free delivery!

In past, Repco restocked these for sales. No stock was available at start of sale.

          Ring store!
I rang store & they got the cooler pack in for me. Didn't realise store had stock of PowerBank packs for same price then, so swapped.

        • Ah yes you’re right, the link points to the cooler bag one being a clearance item. Will update the OP, thanks.

  • Any one of the ctek products that Repco has good for a 4wd dual battery setup? I've only heard of the ctek d250se on the 4wd supercentre

  • Does this work for those stop start batteries? Are those AGM type battery?

    • Yes I’m using that atm. It has a setting for AGM battery

    • European cars with start stop use A GM batteries and the CTEK charges them. Japanese start stop uses Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFB), these charge using the normal program. Don't use the AGM setting for EFB batteries.

      • can you charge AGM using the normal settings?

      • Not all Euro cars are AGM, I've had two VW's and both were EFB batteries. As sleepycat3 said, EFB uses the standard car battery charging mode, AGM batteries charge in AGM mode as they charge differently to normal batteries. Find out what battery type your car uses before choosing a charge mode.

  • ugh missed out on the cooler bag kit. The powerbank option is now $137 and after reading the above it doesnt make it worth it hey?

    • Unit alone is $120 at Sparesbox, free delivery.
