Being Internet are severely affected by Covid-19 lockdowns overseas. They've stopped listing their phone number on the website, only way to contact support is by ticket through the portal and they warn it can take up to 10 days for a response.

    • +6

That's also their normal support with their mobile service.

    • +2

They've stopped listing their phone number on the website

Literally took me 1 second to find it.

I just hit Call at the top of the website and the number was revealed.

      https://i.imgur.com/daLJbHD.png

      • +3

They've closed their phone line, I've been with Belong for over a month now and still haven't been connected, it took them 2 weeks just to send out the modem and that was after I had submitted a support request.

Edit: If anyone is thinking about joining Belong, maybe give this a read first.

        • I didn't have that issue, my NBN was connected the next day and modem was sent out for delivery in 2 days

          • +1

@Nanokillaz: Not sure when you were connected but I think they are struggling to get everyone connected at the moment with limited staff, if not you must have been one of the lucky ones. I have heard good things from them last year it has just been the last couple months.

            • @CorruptInterface: Must have been lucky as it was last week. They only stuffed up with my plan, they selected 12 month contract rather than month to month.

But that should be resolved without much hassle given my sign up clearly stated month to month.

I'll give them some slack for turn around times given that COVID-19 isn't business as usual for most.

              • @Nanokillaz: I also connected last week- was a bit nervous of an outage period being so reliant on wifi at moment. But no issue at all & was up and running by the time the NBN tech left

      • try give it a call and see where you end up with. I bet you'll end up the voice mail tells you that the call centre all closed due to covid-19.

    • +1

The dullards who believe in privatisation theory call this "better customer service" and claim that this is better than the Government could do.

      • +5

        How old are you Diji1?
Belong is part of Telstra, and anyone who really remembers the PMG and Telecom Australia would not make such a comment.
        Same for any state-owned Telco.

That said, I've worked for both a big Telco, and in the public service (as contractor), and they have a lot in common.

    • And…when you finally get a response from them…it was basically sorry about keeping you waiting, do you still need help? without actually answering any of my question or processing any of my request. I was furious. I waited 8 days to hear back from them and they didn't even bother provide any support that they were supposed to. Think twice before signing up…i'm basically cancelling it and going somewhere else at this stage.

  • +2

And they are ruthless with their debt recovery program so even though you can't contact them to cancel the account they will come after you. Just remember to lodge your complaint with the telecommunications ombudsman. Good luck

  • I think this free $80 sim will work if you just order a month to month.. as this sim comes with the modem

    $60 for the modem.

Belong are just the worst to deal with it. Really not worth it.

    • +1

I challenge that comment, i was with Dodo for a while. I reckon they had 2-3 customer service reps for all of Australia when i was with them.

      • +3

Agree with that, I switched from Dodo to Belong, Dodo were far worse. Although I haven't really had any problems to complain to belong about so far, but Dodo had some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced.

  • +2

Heads-up: There's no voicemail on Beyond.

    • +10

Voice to SMS. I personally prefer it, since it saves me time. I've been with belong for a year, churned from Optus, and I don't regret it. Only thing is they don't support esim.

    I belong with Belong.

Received $80.00 sim with modem on 12 month contract 50/20 3 weeks ago.

Connected within 2 weeks of initial phone sign-up. Great service from NBN installer.
Consistent ave speed of 47mbps around 1900h.
Contacted Belong support to bring forward installation to less than one week and received reply in 2 days. Customer support from overseas city in lockdown and public transport is not available therefore delays are temporary.

  • +4

ive been with them for over 2 yrs.. mobile & internet.. ive had no issues.. service is really good.. i can't fault them.. even with this lockdown going on

    • from adsl+ ported to NBN. Working for 2 weeks and now no internet for 14 days (out since before easter break). No outage showed at NBN website but being told fibre cable gone damage, and no one came to replace the fibre cable in the pit and left with no further update when it can be replaced. Whoever fault but we as customer took the hit.

  • +10

It has always been the case to give a free $80 SIM for Belong over the past two years. Not a bargain at all.

    • When was it last posted?

    • +1

Fully agree with you, neology. They have always sent out a $80 SIM Starter Kit with their modem.

    • +3

Yes champ, you might have known about it, as did I, but what about the other users who didn't? Should they not see the deal at all (as you're advocating with your negative vote)?

      • I think it considered as a "standard offer", not a "deal"

        • Agreed. Definitely not a deal.
It is clearly mentioned on their broadband plans page before you sign up.

        • So just to clarify. You think other OzBargain users shouldn't learn about the deal and it should be hidden?

  • Can the SIM be gifted to others or is it tied to the internet account?

    • can. you can even re-sell just the sim

    • It's completely independent

Just need email and credit card.

    • +1

It’s just a starter SIM with credit so anyone can use it, same as if you bought it separately.

    • Of course you can gift it to someone else. It won't be too long before they figure out you hate their guts.

  • +2

Pretty clear the $80 is just for the 12 month plan.

  • Whats the best way to stretch the 80?

    • +4

      https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/belongmobile
Get a referral link, activate on the $40 plan between any of the billing dates, downgrade to $10 after 1st billing date. That should give you 86gb of data and 7 months of service.

      • Large $40/mth

Unlimited standard national calls, SMS and MMS (includes 13, 1300, & 1800 numbers)
        40GB data (with Data Rollover†)

        86gb, How ?

        • 40gb *2 + 1gb * 6 ($20referral + $40 remaining credit)

        • Belong gives free service until next billing date after you activate. I think that's what is meant. So you get 40gb, get billed first billing after activate, then drop to $10 plan. I think

          • @grasstown: it's not working with the sim. It took $40 credit off the moment you activate the sim

            • @thomalfa: Arthur Singer below clarified the comment of Shouldibuyit above.

              Double Data (1st month)
DO NOT port / activate on these dates - 4th, 12th, 20th, 28th. These are the start of new billing cycles. They are the same every month.

              Perhaps you ported/activated on 4th, 12th, 20th, 28th?

    • +13

Whats the best way to stretch the 80?

Option 1 (10 Months 11GB) - Start out on the $10 1GB per month plan. When the first billing cycle comes you'll already have 1GB data plus you get another 1GB (Double Data). The first 10 months cost is covered ($80 starter pack + $20 referral credit)

Option 2 (7 Months 86GB) - Start out on the $40 40GB per month plan. When the first billing cycle comes you'll already have 40GB data plus you get another 40GB (Double Data). Then switch to the $10 1GB per month plan for the 2nd & remaining months. The first 7 months cost is covered ($80 starter pack + $20 referral credit) and data rolls over every month or can be gifted.

Before you activate make sure you get a referral code from a friend already with Belong or the OzBargain Belong pool for the $20 credit.

      Double Data (1st month)
DO NOT port / activate on these dates - 4th, 12th, 20th, 28th. These are the start of new billing cycles. They are the same every month.
One month worth of data is credited on activation, and another on your first payment date, 1-8 days later. So you effectively get double data for the first monthly payment.

      • Wow thanks guys. Will try the 11months option.

Btw if ref link was used in nbn connection… Can you use another one for this mobile?

        • +1

Probably worth mentioning that data rolls over months on months, hence why people start with $40/80gb to bank the data.

      • I was with Belong mobile for a good 20 months from mid 2017. By putting my referral code on OzB as well as signing up a few family friends, I didn't pay them a cent. At the 20 month mark I had to change providers because I smashed my phone and ended up with an Optus prepaid handset that didn't have Telstra 3G frequency support, (and money was super tight at the time). I basically gifted about 30GB of data to people and ported out with about $70 credit still remaining on it.

They never got a cent out of me for the mobile service. I have another $80 SIM that I got back in December when I changed broadband back to Belong, once my Kogan 90 day runs out I'll be milking it via Option 2 again and hopefully a few more referrals to stretch it out.

Great system if you can make it work for those who are wondering! It's awesome when we are all able to help out others as strangers in this community, that's why I love it.

      • Another option is spend the $80 on 120GB
        $40 Month 1 - double data = 80GB
        $40 Month 2 = 40GB

Then switch to $10 plan so
        $10 Month 3 = 1GB

        Ie 121GB by this point

        NB I didn’t consider the $20 referral

        • Does the sim need to be in credit for keeping using the internet allowance? In you case, you have $80 in credit upon activation and you spend all 80 dollars out in the first two month. Is the sim needs credit to be connected that means you will end up topping it up from month 3.

      • I attempted option 2 and ported into belong on 8th of this month. But it seems like I was charged $40 on the 8th, and $40 today (on the dashboard view). But in the PDF invoice, it shows I was only charged 1 time and I still have a balance of $60. Has anyone had any issues in terms of getting a credit discrepancy between the dashboard vs PDF invoice?

        • Dashboard shows what Belong will charge for the next billing cycle, and the balance that is shown is after subtracting that amount.

          • @DoctorCalculon: Ahh yep. I have just tried adjusting the plan and it shows what will be billed and the credit remaining for next month. Quite confusing but also sort of makes sense.

            Thanks :)

            • @reivaxX:

              Quite confusing

Extremely confusing, indeed. It looks like they are charging for the current cycle as well as the next.
However, they don't deduct the funds for the next cycle until the current cycle ends.

              • @DoctorCalculon: Yeah, I did think that, but it also seemed like it was charging 2x$40 in one month. Which was strange, and while scrolling through OzB, i didn't see anyone mention having any issues. Glad it's all good though :) Thanks for your help

      • DO NOT port / activate on these dates - 4th, 12th, 20th, 28th.

dang, activated today, shouldve consulted ozbargain first. started with the 25$ plan, then switched to 15% 5GB one, hopefully wont be charged 25$ again in Nov

        • That old rule doesn't work any more.
So, you haven't really missed out on anything.

  • I can confirm it was really frustrating to reach them to get my modem. I got my modem and luckily it all worked without a hitch. Although I had raised 2 emails to support and no response yet 4 weeks on.

Funny enough their sales phone lines are open but support lines are all closed.

    • +1

Funny enough their sales phone lines are open but support lines are all closed.

      "Better customer service".

      LMAO.

  • I signed up with Belong at the start of they year. It took 3 weeks for them to connect my service. Even they I'd signed up 3 weeks prior to my move.

Other than that, it's been fine.

    • Did you feel like you belonged in those 3 weeks?

      • +1

I was pretty pissed off. But they gave me a month free after it.

        • +1

i thought you would get a month free anyway regardless… unless you started you contract on the 30 of the month.

    • To be fair Telstra have disconnected my service and then failed to connect a new service for over three months.

Then connected it at 33Mbit when it was meant to be 100.

Then overcharged me for the 100 Mbit service that we agreed on.

So if the largest, most expensive private for profit ISP has "better customer service" this bad how can you blame the pathetically bad "competition" for being better?

Telecom should never have been privatised because it created an economic disaster.

      • -1

We can thank John Howard for this mess.

I used to be loyal to Telstra/Telecom but nowadays their offshored monkeys make any issue and 6 month survivor challenge to resolve.

Have since moved to Aussie Broadband and happy to avoid paying Andy Penn even one cent.

  • Andy Penn Telstra CEO can shove Belong where the sun don't shine.

Support a provider with local support, not offshore monkeys

    • Which ones have local support staff?

      • +1

        Aussie Broadband is one

      • +2

Superloop and Aussie Broadband. Two really good providers.

    • +1

      Agreed, jobs for Aussies

  • This a regular deal.

    But a few caveats:
    1. Belong mobile doesn't offer voicemail;
    2. Belong mobile uses Telstra's wholesale network (so coverage in regional areas is worse; only Telstra and Boost offer full coverage);
    3. Belong have put a 'cease sale' on new FTTC and HFC services in the last week or so…

  • Worst provider imho, stay away from this scammers. Get the one with aussie support. Its impossible to get support from Belong as their support is overseas.

  • And don't forget the first calendar month is free. Belong NBN only invoice people on the 1st of each month for that month's service. Hence if you get connected on 2 May, you get your internet connection free for the month of May, and only get charged the monthly fee on 1 June for the month of June.

  • I am using belong nbn for years and these days their internet speed is terrible. At 1100 pm after work I click google site and no response. By checking the speed it shows less than 2mbps conecting telstra sunshine server. It happens everyday. After corona I will change isp for sure. Simply terrible.
Ps. Their phone support is based in India.

  • Belong has the worst customer support. Why would you not use a local Australian company like AussieBB or launtel. Both of which give you roughly the same price as Belong anyway. Save the money and get Boost mobile.

    • It doesn't look the same IMO. Belong $55 for 50 NBN speed. Aussie BB is $79

      • +4

Actually its $55 for 30 NBN speed. I used to get 50 but its been throttled down to 30 for me since February.

        • Good info. thanks. 30 is close to 25.

          • @compugrid: Yep if you think its too slow they give you the flexibility of changing your speed in your dashboard - you could upgrade to the 50 speed and pay $65 in the following month :)

      • How do you sign up for Belong 50/20 for $55? I though it was $65

  • i'm on telstra NBN atm at my dad's place… moving house in the coming months
moving my telstra nbn acc to my new place - so looking for a cheap nbn plan for dad

went to belong's website - they cant service my current address?
tried a handful of addresses I know that have nbn currently and same issue/error

    • If the NBN number/ address is taken it shows as error with them. I tried to connect with belong in January. Belong listed my number as occupied. I cannot even open NBN with belong again, because the line has to be cleared first as belong explained. Maybe i am missing something?

      • optus/spintel/aussiebb etc all showing as address is connectable via HFC nbn.
thinking they just turned off new connections for HFC and FTTC as someone pointed out above…
oh well prob will connect with Spintel as they have the low cost offering I can find.

as mentioned will be for dad who doesn't need superfast/unlimited

  • Removed by poster

  • Why be forced to choose between a 12 month contract or a pay $60 for a sh#tty modem.
What’s with their typical download speeds for starter plan?
Have heard customer support is useless (and offshore).
Failing to see a deal here.

    • Refer to my comment above - its typically 30/20 Mbps but just did a speed test and got 34 Mbps (I have FTTP). Essentially you're put on the 50 plan but get throttled as advertised to 30. You have the flexibility of changing your speeds in the dashboard if you think its slow at any time and pay the extra $10 a month from the following months bill. The contract also saves you $5 a month off your bill aswell.

  • Careful guys. Phone lines have been down as stated before. Only way is to do a ticket. Even after 10 days with multiple attempts to contact belong they don’t get back to you. Multiple failed attempts to connect services too. Ombudsman is pending…. decision soon enough. Lack of care, I won’t go into details but they are very poorly managing things at this time.

  • +1

Belong NBN does not give you an IP with 255.255.255.255 subnet mask.
It only gives you an IP with 255.255.240.0 subnet mask.
It means that the IP you got in the modem is not a global IP.

    Why it matters?
    1) You cannot host a server at home for others to access
    2) Some websites might regard you as having a different IP after you login, and you have to login again and cannot do normal member stuff
For example, after login to CPanel, it might tell you that your IP has changed and you have to login again.
Another example, after login to a bank website, everything looks normal until you try to transfer. You will be told that there is another active login with another IP and you have to logout and login again. The loops keep going.

I regretted that I moved from Kogan to Belong.
My experience with Kogan vs Belong.

    Kogan:
Dropped out every day at around midnight
    Better support hours

    Belong:
    No dropped out
Nearly no support if things go wrong
Weird behaviour with some websites, telling you that your IP has changed
You cannot setup global server at home

    • You could always upgrade to static IP if needed ($5/month extra) from your dashboard. Also when you sign up it asks you whether you want dynamic or static IP address. For the average user like me I had no issues with IP.

      • I used to have dynamic IP with Kogan and I experienced no issue when using one of my banks website.
It is not about dynamic IP or static IP.
It is about having a dynamic IP with 255.255.255.240 subnet mask or a dynamic IP with 255.255.255.255 subnet mask.

Belong seems to let you have 255.255.255.240 subnet mask if you choose to have a dynamic IP.

        • Hi tg I knew I will need your earlier information regarding the 240 subnet mask because I am a web developer using CPanel all the time. Now exactly as you said, I am in the loop of login request with CPanel (godaddy host). Have you managed to fix this? Does buying a static IP even work as you mentioned it is not about having a static or dynamic IP it is the subnet mask matters? Please advise. Thank you in advance.

  • Anyone knows how to cancel Belong account? These shit of a company removed phone support and theres no way to cancel. Bullshit Belong!

  • I had a lot of problems with speed when first signed up (more than 1.5 years ago now) but it seems that they got their CVC etc upgraded and haven't had any problems since then, speed has been decent on and off peak. Not sure about the recent service sign ups etc. It would be reasonable to assume that customer service etc would be slower during the COVID-19 shut downs, not just this ISP but most so. I would not be changing providers any time soon because it could be slow to get modem/activation etc (is my assumption).

    • I had some issues when I signed up with Belong. Switching to a better router (my old CG3000v2) solved 95% of them.
