This is far from a genuine deal
covid is here for life.
until it mutates in around 6- 8 months or less then there will be more variations than the 3 already.
big pharma has a new cashcow, and governments have new powers.
wearing a mask for the rest of your life ain't going to make it any better.
can't hurt… new fashion trend of the 20's… lol
If this was on Amazon it would be full of praise.
This is expensive! and even though this is not N95, still deserve reserving for health care heroes.
I know of dental suppliers that were selling for $300+ a box of 50 at one point early on in the pandemic…
You can get 200 masks on Kogan for $114 delivered.
https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/toughland-200pcs-disposable-fac…
I don't know how comparable these are with these certified masks.
Over half of the cheap masks out there don't past the covid-19 test. The ones CW sell would most likely be the high quality ones. See Mask test:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cTOUNwb5FcSafest bet would obviously be N95 approved masks. (There's lots of fake 3M masks being sold on Aliexpress)
Just keep in mind that standard N95 refers to respirators, not face masks. Also N95 is in itself not necessarily Food Grade approved/Surgical certified.
Surgical N95 is a separate classification, that is and N95 respirator approved for surgical use.
A very controversial post and took me a while to decide whether to + or - it because It’s very pricey.
I bought one because it meets world standards and is obviously higher quality than the ones you can find on Kogan, Amazon and EBay.
If we on Ozbargain debate over 60% vs 70% vs 80% ethanol content in hand sanitiser and meeting TGA/WHO standards, why aren’t we doing the same for face masks?
There’s obviously a difference in quality in face masks and the ones imported and sold from random third party sellers are an unknown quality.
I could get a 50pack of face masks on Kogan and Amazon for $35 to $40 but there would always be doubt that they’re only useful as a placebo.
I only have one more P2/N95 mask and they’re really expensive +, sold out everywhere, this looks like the next best thing, until someone posts a cheaper deal that meets these standards.
Agree that the price is price gougey, but it is what it is.
Because at this point in time, everybody thinks that they are a virologist/microbiologist/epidemiologist/etc because they watched some Youtube videos or saw something on Facebook.
I have qualifications and experience in the field and my extended family don't even listen to me because their friend posted something on Facebook.
People think that if something sits in front of your face, it's all the same, and that N95 is the best. Meanwhile if you go out into public, you see people with masks sitting below their noses, or non pinched nose pieces, or reused masks, etc. And this is Ozbargain so if it sits in front of your face and is cheap, then it's better than something with a CE or AS or whatever mark.
This is such horrible price gouging, you wouldn't expect it from such a reputable retailer..
On Strapit.com.au same box of 50 is advertised at $77.50, then they add GST $9.48 and then shipping to Sydney $19.00.
Total $104.25.That's right up there with reselling toilet paper.
Surgical masks are graded Level 1, 2 or 3 (with Level 3 offering the highest protection).
NSW Health recommend the use of Level 2 masks "when providing care for symptomatic suspected/confirmed COVID19 cases within <1.5 metres".

http://cec.health.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/567…
http://cec.health.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/572…Given that shops in my area are selling non-graded, generic Chinese masks for $2-$3 each, the price for this Level 2 mask is reasonable.
Thanks OP. Bought a box. Feel better that these comply with various standards compared to the non-graded / certified masks being sold by other sellers.
Cool, great work there! Glad you have them and not front line workers….muppet!
"The former vice president of the Australian Medical Association has revealed a senior health worker has purchased medical equipment out of her own pocket to support colleagues on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stephen Parnis, now a Victorian emergency doctor, detailed just how desperate the need is for personal protective equipment (PPE) such as goggles, facemasks and gowns around the country in a radio interview on Thursday.
Just days earlier the doctor had revealed health workers were so desperate for PPE as they fight the coronavirus – they were buying it from hardware store Bunnings."
Government departments and hospitals have their own purchasing teams who contract directly with suppliers and commercial B2B companies for their medical supplies.
If Victorian doctors don’t have access to proper PPE, it is the failing of Health Victoria and hospital administration, especially when Chemist Warehouse is able to secure a large shipment from the manufacturer but the government cannot.
Frontline workers do deserve better equipment, but everyday Aussies buying a single box which is [prohibitively expensive] aren’t the ones to blame. There is nothing wrong with looking after your own health and that of the community.
Government inefficiency is more at fault, the Victorian health system is arguably a much bigger customer with more spending power and influence than Chemist Warehouse, they should’ve been able to negotiate and secure supplies ahead of consumer focused companies.
ozpricegouge ?
These disgusting "deals" go hand in hand with the Sanitiser deals flooding Ozbargain atm.
wtf is with all the negs? they are hard to find, people want them, and this is a good price compared to all the other quality certified surgical masks right now (if u can find them). why are people asking for this to be pulled? its not any sellers fault that the price of masks have had a massive spike in Australia (the world) right now
I think you're missing the bigger picture here… "price".. wake up clowns. In a 100 year event (at least economically, and possibly medically), doctors and nurses are worth more than the average Joe (myself included!).

Maybe the gov should be buying these from chemist warehouse…
What about this legislation?
Biosecurity (Human Biosecurity Emergency) (Human Coronavirus with Pandemic Potential) (Essential Goods) Determination 2020
https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2020L00355
Definition of price gouging,
(2) A person engages in price gouging in relation to essential goods if:
(a) the person supplies, or offers to supply, the goods during the COVID-19 human biosecurity emergency period; and
(b) the person purchased the goods in a retail transaction on or after 30 January 2020; and
(c) the value of the consideration for which the person supplies, or offers to supply, the goods is more than 120% of the value of the consideration for which the person purchased the goods.
I highly doubt that Chemist Warehouse has purchased these masks for $70 / 1.2 = $58.33 per 50. Equivalent hospital-grade masks (not the cheap civilian grade) from China, using the exactly the same machine and raw material to make these masks (i.e. non-woven melt-blown PP fabric and electrostatically treated for the PFE) are sold on 1688.com for approx ~2.3 to 2.6 RMB each (bulk amount), that's AUD $26 to $28 exc GST and delivery per 50.
For civilian grade masks, they are even cheaper on 1688.com. They are now down to RMB $1.0 each on bulk, or approx AUD $11-$12 per 50. Anyone selling these civilian grade masks, like Kogan, for $60 per 50, are breaking the law.
But of course, what law is good for if no one is there to enforce it?
oz law only revolves around reasonable doubt these days, and the bar for that is set by your peers.
So clearly unless u can prove that their knew how to use their calculators and their wasn't an input error completely blameless…
Price gouging…. besides what is the need for a big box of masks when we are all isolated? Stock should be sent in for healthcare workers to use/patients that require the use of these
You never know when you will become a patient. For healthcare workers I agree with you.
People in New South Wales can go out and about for exercise, shopping, fill petrol, deliver supplies to people in their care, etc.
Can anyone post a cheaper deal for these atm? If not then you can whinge as much as you like but it's a deal. That's how Ozbargain works ffs! If you think it's a price gouge, don't buy them just like I won't be. Simple really. Go and lodge a formal complaint about Chemist Warehouse if you feel that strong about it instead of crying on here. People negging the OP because they are snowflakes is the ridiculous problem here.
Not a deal coz the price is absolute shite.
The local pharmacies charges about $25 for a pack of 10 pcs. No single sales.
We ordered a bulk sample at $1 pcs. How much should retailers charge for 50 pcs delivered?
