[SA] Free Parking and Public Transport for Hospital Workers

730

The State Government will provide free car parking for hospital staff during the coronavirus pandemic to support frontline hospital staff in their lifesaving work to protect the health of South Australians.

Hospital workers who don’t have a car or prefer to use public transport to get to work will also be provided with free travel on South Australia’s public transport system.

“Free car parking for the doctors, nurses, cleaners and receptionists at our metropolitan hospitals adds to a series of initiatives already in place.

  • How to apply for free car park ?

    • If it works like other states, you already have a Hospital staff parking permit - which might be an RFID tag in your car's windscreen, a swipe card or number plate recognition to get in and out of the car park. One would assume you do nothing different when parking at work, you just don't get charged for it.

      • I have been with SA health for 6 years plus .. never had a car park as it is $50 a fortnight which is quite expensive according to me. So I don't have a swipe card for parking. May be i need to enquire a bit more at work. Thanks !

IMO it's a shame that this free parking is just during the pandemic

It's almost as if they are not doing life-saving work at other times

Might be outdated info that I have but I believe that the nurses have been wanting parking at the hospital instead of resorting to walking through the park in the dark to their cars. We really need to take care of them.

    • Yeah it's a bit ridiculous, especially when you can salary sacrifice for your parking permit. I work offsite, but am connected to a major hospital and everyone where I work parks for free, and gets paid the same as those on the real frontline in ED at the hospital, making us financially better off.

So, The State Government is giving State Government employed Doctors and Nurses free parking in State Government owned (or local council) parking spaces.

You would think that they should be doing that anyway.

(Upvote for Dealbot for sharing, not for the State Government seeking a pat on the back for temporarily doing the right thing)

  • I clicked on the link but need more details on how to use it and where?

I'm assuming government owned ticketed parking spots? How does the ticket man ignore your car? The hospital hasn't issued any tags for the car.

Thanks for the info, I guess it's a work Q for Tuesday.
